  • Has anyone in South Eastern PA ever used expanded shale to amend clay soil?

How did it work for you and where did you purchase it?

  • Can anyone help me identify this bug? It really freaked me out.?

    http://garagedragon.imgur.com/bug

It's very small - around a half centimeter. It has a segmented body, wicked looking pincers on the head, and a flexible tail that it uses to help get around. I would be very thankful if anyone could help me determine what it is so I can figure out if they like to infest homes or not

    Thanks!

  • Next month I'll be driving from Salt Lake City Utah to Great Falls Montana. What should I see?

It's worth noting that I'll be traveling with a 3-year old, a 4-year old, and a 69-year old. I have 12 days to drive there and back. As an aside, I know I'll be passing through Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, what roads should I travel through those parks?

  • What kind of a dinosaur is this? http://imgur.com/vbMUF.jpg?

I initially told my son that it was a triceratops, but his babysitter wisely pointed out that it doesn't have three horns. My kids and I searched wikipedia today, but I can't find a match. It's possible that this toy isn't based on a real dino at all, but if it is I would love to know what it is.

  • I just replaced the struts on my Outback and now they make knocking / grinding noises when I turn the wheel.?

I know I must have done something wrong, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what it is. I marked aimed the top plates out correctly, I replaced the upper bearing mounts, I torqued the lower bolts to 125 ft lbs, I made sure to put the rubber bushings back onto the top of the coils. I'm stumped. Any help?

  • Is it normal to sand a wood project *after* priming it?

I am having some custom cabinets done and the carpenter assembled and primed the pieces for me to later paint. The surfaces were rough in many places and flawed.

He told me that in the cabinet finishing business, you should sand, prime, sand again, then paint. I responded with surprise because I always thought everything should be completely sanded before ever applying any finishing steps.

    Is my carpenter correct?

  • I’m about to file a claim in small claim’s court and I have no idea what I’m doing. Any help?

I find my self engaged in a conflict with a boat shop over some unauthorized work that I don’t feel I should have to pay for. I was told that my total was $150, but today when I went to pick it up they presented me with a bill for $333. I was pretty outraged and probably didn’t handle the situation very well, but it boils down to the guy at the counter stating he had authorization for the work and me saying that I never agreed to it.

I told them I would have no choice but to file a claim against them and they replied that they’d see me in court. I know this is a really petty thing in the grand scheme of things, but the desk guy just boldly outright lied and now I can’t let it go. I'm not normally the litigious type. Really. I just can't stand getting punked this way.

My question is what do judges usually do when they get this kind of thing in front of them? Do they usually side with the small business or the customer? Do they tend to just split the difference? My only point of reference for these things is Judge Judy and The People’s Court. My stomach is in knots over this, and I’d feel a whole lot better if I had some good input on how to proceed.

I have no doubt that my own insecurities are clouding my judgment; I'm self aware enough to realize that. I still can't walk away from this fight. I really feel that I have to see this through.

    Thanks.

  • My mother is turning 60 this summer and I have around $500 or so to spend on a nice gift. Any ideas?

I could go higher than $500 if it was a really unique idea.

  • Anyone know anything about engine oil?

I was changing the oil on my riding lawn mower today and didn't have enough 10w30 to fill it back up. What I *do* have is both, a bottle of 10w30 synthetic and a bottle of 5w30.

Would it be better to mix syn and non-syn, or 10 and 5 weight?

  • Half eaten jar of mayonnaise smells like solvent. What do I do next?

I just went to make myself a ham sandwich for lunch, and noticed that as I spread a knife full of Hellman's mayonnaise onto the bread, it smelled strongly of solvent. This isn't something I noticed earlier in the jar; I'm about a third of the way through it.

It doesn't smell bad or rancid, and the jar is fairly new. It does smell a lot like a permanent marker or something I used to use when I was a painter to clean spills called Goof Off. I put the lid back on and put it back in the refrigerator for now, but I’m very concerned about what it might be. Since opening the jar, I’ve fed some of it to my 1 and 3 year old kids.

My question is what do I do to find out what’s going on? You hear about people “sending things off for testing”, but where do they send it to? I’d contact the company, but I’d like to have some evidence in hand before I do. Any suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Do you give a gift at a Jewish naming ceremony?

My close friends have invited my wife and I to their daughter's naming ceremony, and I've never been to one before. Is this a suit and tie occasion? Is it customery to purchase a present or bring a gift of cash? Should I send a card?

    Many thanks in advance.

  • Can anyone reccomend a good open-source or freeware video editing package?

I need to do some image blurring, cropping, and conversions, but this is a one-shot kind of thing. I don't really want to buy a full studio for something I'm not going to use again.

  • How big would a minute of 640x480 DIVX video at 30 fps be?

I'm purchasing a SDHC card to go with my new Pentax A30 and am wondering if I should get the 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB card (price is an factor for me). I'll be taking a lot of pictures and video with the camera and would like to make sure I have space for both.

I'm curious to know approximately how much memory DIVX video tends to consume. I know the compressibility depends somewhat on the content, but in general how much memory does a minute's worth use?
