Raising Iron Levels in a healthy way?
Does anyone have some good tips for how to raise iron levels on a vegetarian to near vegetarian diet?
I am currently on (Dr. prescribed) 325mg/Fe/Day, so I'm not going to bombard my body with anymore supplements.
However, I would like to change my diet and incorporate the necessary iron so that, perhaps some day, the supplement will not be necessary.
I was raised in a family of beef eaters and my iron levels dropped when I gave up beef. I am working my way towards not consuming meat, at all, but it's a slow process. I want to get my body used to everything so that it is easier to adapt. I want to know what foods I can eat to give me the iron levels that the human body needs.
7 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoIs it safe to eat the skin of a mango?
When I eat mangos, I eat the skin. Most people don't like it but, believe it or not, that's my favorite part (as long as there's fruit attached . . lol).
Now, I understand that it can aggravate one's digestive system if too much is consumed. However, I have several friends who have told me to stop eating the skin because "it's poisonous".
I've looked online and various sources give me various answers.
Personally, since I've eaten it so often with no illness or harm, I don't believe that it's poisonous nor incredibly harmful in moderation. BUT, I want to know what all of you think about it. Am I fine or is my digestive system in for a bumpy ride in the future?
