1 AnswerChevrolet9 years agoWedding cloths hire and who pays?
I have been invited to be a groomsman at a friends wedding and said sure. When we went to book the suit hire (at the cash register) my friend lobbed it on us that he would pay the deposit and that we could pay our own suit hire. I thought that a bit rich but said nothing as we were in company and the shop wasn't exactly the place to get into a discussion about it. I let it slide thinking it wouldn't cost too much but a few weeks later when we went for the final fitting I discovered, at the cash register, once again, that the suit hire would cost us $250 each. I said to my friend that was bullshit and that I wasn't expecting anything like that. Plus I simply can't afford it as I have no income. My friend looked a liitle bewildered and said "but isn't that what was agreed". There was no previous agreement other than what my friend said was going to happen at the first fitting. I hate it when people are too gutless to be up front and that assume others will pay. My question is; is there a protocol regards suit hire and who should pay?... In my view it is their wedding not mine and it shouldn't cost friends anything unless there is a full and open conversation of disclosure including costs with the option of opting in or out of the costs. Am I correct in this thinking?
