  • Is it legal for someone to sell me a vehicle with only a bill of sale and no title in California?

Someone sold me a 2014 Kawasaki Versys 650 in non-operating condition. Seller notified us he did not have the title. My friend, whom I trusted at the time, said we did not require the title as long as we have a bill of sale with all of the required vehicle, seller, and buyer info on it.

I purchase the bike for $600, seller signs my bill of sale, and since then, the seller hasn’t paid off the lien to the dealer and can no longer be contacted. 2-3 years pass, and I’m just hoping to get rid of the motorcycle for the price I bought it for. DMV has told me it is a federal offense to sell a vehicle without a title and that I’d need a court order to get the seller to come back.

So what I have now is a typed bill of sale with our signatures and a motorcycle that doesn’t run. How do I check if the vehicle is listed as stolen/abandoned? Can I return it to the dealer (the lienholder) for $600 since the seller has been delinquent on his payments to them? What else can I do at this point?

  • Can I sell a handgun in TX as an out-of-state resident?

I am a CA resident currently located in TX. Am I able to sell my handgun to a private buyer (TX resident) through an FFL?

I understand there are more restrictions if were I were to purchase, but there's little information available to me as a seller.

  • California: Acquiring an Off-Roster Handgun purchase? 2015?

Since the single shot exemption (SSE) is now closed as of 2015, I am wondering what are some other ways to acquire an off-roster handgun (I want the HK P30S V3 in 9mm) in the state of California. Am I allowed to purchase a firearm online from any site (for example, Budsgunshop.com) and have it ship to a CA FFL where I complete the transaction and DROS? I can't imagine this way working, otherwise I'd hear of more CA gunners buying online.

If not, am I allowed to have my friend who is a NV resident purchase the P30S in NV, and ship it to a CA FFL, whereupon we perform a private party transfer (PPT) and I acquire the gun?

What other ways can I acquire an off-roster gun in a legal and timely matter? By the way, I have a CA firearm/handgun safety certificate.

  • CA gun transport law: locked containers?

Transporting a firearm in a vehicle in California is only legal when the weapon is unloaded and stored in a locked container or trunk. A utility box or glove compartment does not constitute a locked container.

My question is would storing a handgun in a padlocked, key-locked, or combination-locked case which is then placed into a utility box or glove compartment legal? I would assume so, but I was wondering if anyone else does this or has done this

  • A-2 Flight Jackets: Black or Dark Brown?

I am a pilot in the US, and I am thinking about investing in an A-2 flight jacket (not the G-1 with the goatskin, because I live in Southern California where it isn't necessary).

One question though, I've known experienced pilots who choose to wear the dark-brown-colored jacket, as opposed to the more widely-recognized (partly due to the Terminator films) black-colored jacket. I've found this interesting, as most pilots wear dark-brown instead, whereas the flying team at my college use black leather jackets as part of their uniform. Is there a historical thing that differentiates what color pilots actually wear versus just your average motorcyclists, or what. What colors were the original A-2/G-1 jackets worn by those pilots? Do pilots wear both? Which seems traditional? I am very stumped on this matter. Thanks!

  • How long does it take for your private pilot license to arrive in the mail after passing the checkride?

After passing the private pilot checkride, how long does it take for your permanent license to arrive by mail? I currently have the temporary certificate issued by my examiner on the day of my passing of the checkride, but I am awaiting the arrival of my permanent one. Is there a 2-week period, or something similar of when it will arrive? I don't want to contact (and potentially bother) my examiner if I haven't waited past this certain period, and end up seeming like an anxious mess.

  • Chinese speakers: Ways Chinese girls flirt with you in Mandarin...?

I've recently come across a Chinese girl who told me "好困... 我們去睡覺吧" (Hǎo kùn... Wǒmen qù shuìjiào ba), which roughly translates to "I'm really sleepy. Let's go sleep together"...

She was in a flirtatious mood with me a few times earlier as well that day, but when she said that, I wasn't too sure what to make of it, since I didn't know if Chinese Mandarin had anything similar in English that uses "I wanted to sleep with him" in that type of usage. I was wondering if any native speakers could make sense of this to me... Thanks!

  • Any suggestions for a good mid-to-long-range scope for an M1A?

I'm looking for a low-budget, high-value scope that can magnify from 3x to 10x, or anything similar within that range (specifically, for an M1A series rifle in .308) that can shoot reasonably accurately. Since I don't know too much about scopes, I was hoping for any suggestions and advice people may have. I was also looking for a scope that DOES NOT have "screw caps" that require you to make elevation/windage adjustments with a coin or something.

  • Diamond DA40 XLS vs DA40 CS?

What are the main differences between the Diamond Star DA40 XLS and the DA40 CS? I understand that the CS is a bit less expensive when compared to the XLS. The airframes look similar, but are the interior features of the XLS more "superior" to the CS?

  • Aircraft Rental: What are block rates?

At my flight school, they allow rental planes at hourly and block rates. For my flight instruction, I pay to hourly rates (which are higher by not much). What are the differences? Are the block rates for prepaying customers or something similar?

  • Can student pilots (or a passenger at the controls) log time without a CFI? (Not flight instruction time)?

Are student pilots, or any passenger at the controls, allowed to log time without a CFI? (not as a substitute for formal flight instruction)

And also, are private pilot license holders allowed to give hours to a passenger sitting at the controls (for example, sightseeing) but not log the time as flight instruction time? For example, Pilot A signs-off Passenger A's logbook as "Sightseeing. Straight-and-level. NOT FLIGHT INSTRUCTION. Pilot A, PPL#"

I am not a pilot, so I don't understand the FAR's as well.

    Thanks!

  • If I have a PPL in a single-engine land airplane, will some of the hours transfer toward a helicopter PPL?

I was told through some gossip from a couple pilots at my flight school (not CFI's, but renters there) that PPL holders for SEL airplanes must also complete the 40 hour minimum to be tested for the helicopter PPL. I was told that you cannot transfer hours from an airplane PPL toward a helicopter PPL, but the reverse is possible. Is this true? And if not, how MUCH of the hours can be transferred?

I am hoping in learning how to fly (and perhaps instruct in) helicopters, but do not want to pay for the even-more expensive costs for this type of training unless I can transfer some airplane hours over toward my helicopter hours to help me save this money.

What would be the case if you had multi-engine, commercial, CFI, instrument, and/or ATP licences/ratings for airplanes?

  • Are aircraft owners allowed to paint their planes in military gray?

Just a question that was on my mind. Are general aviation aircraft owners allowed to give their planes (particularly piston single-engine planes) a paintjob in a military gray color? I find this gray color on the military Cessna 172's pretty cool, and if I plan to acquire an aircraft sometime in the future, I might be interested.

    This image for reference:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Iraqi_Air_Force_...

Obviously, instead of the IRAQI AIR FORCE stamped on the side, it'll be the tail number.

I am not familiar with FAR's at this point (since I began my flight training not long ago), but does anyone know if there would there be regulations that exist that prohibit this? And if so, why? I would imagine to avoid confusion in differentiating military and civilian planes, or because it would make the plane harder to spot by ATC and other pilots.

    Thanks

  • Do I need a logbook endorsement to fly Cessna Turbo models with a PPL?

I am working on my private pilot's certification, and am currently training in a Cessna 172S Skyhawk. Whenever I complete the PPL course and pass the exams, I know that I am certified for single-engine land aircraft. Would I need an endorsement or any additional requirements to fly a turbo model plane or example, the Cessna Turbo 182T Skylane? What are the differences between these two models in terms of utilizing the controls inside the cockpit? (I am aware that the T182T has higher performance, etc)

Likewise, would I need any additional training to fly the Cessna 206H Stationair? Thanks!

  • If my father is Blood Type O, and my mother is B, what Blood Type would I be?

I understand that I will either be B or O, but how can you tell for sure (other than a blood test). Do dominant and recessive genes play a part here?

  • Are you allowed to have possession of a handgun under the age of 21 in CA?

Say for example, someone over 21 purchases a handgun (which, in CA law, is considered a concealable weapon and must be purchased by persons 21 years of age or older) and hands down this handgun to another individual who is under 21 years of age. The underage person did not purchase this handgun, but he acquired it with the consent of the purchaser who is over 21. Assuming they are of kin (a family), is this legal by CA law? And if not/so, what is the paperwork that must be filed with the registration of the firearm, if there is one?

Let's just discount the age limit for purchasing ammunition (which, for handgun calibers, is also 21).

  • How can you tell the date of manufacture for Colt AR-15's?

    I own a Colt AR-15 with serial number NL-000xxx

My lower receiver gives no indication of a model NUMBER, however is stamped: SPORTER LIGHTWEIGHT CARBINE - CAL 9mm NATO - S NL 000xxx

It is factory-built chambered in 9mm

However, I checked the serial number list that Colt provides to check when my carbine was produced, however I was unable to see mine on the list. Are there other ways (other than contacting Colt themselves) to know this, or if anyone has the knowledge of this? I know for sure it is pre-ban, as considered by the state of California.

    Thanks.

  • Can I use a 9mm sound suppressor work on a 9mm AR-15?

I have a Colt R6450 AR15 rifle (which is chambered in 9mm), and I'm wondering if a standard 9mm suppressor/silencer would be able to be used with a 9mm long-barreled carbine.

Of course, a 9mm suppressor would work with a 9mm firearm, however my main question is this: Would the rifling of the barrel (mine's 1:9 or 1:7, i forget) and/or the barrel length (mine's 16.1") have anything to do with whether or not my rifle can be used with this?

    Other details of my firearm:

    Pre-1985 manufactured

    Magnetic particled-test, 16", chrome-lined bore barrel

    9mm AR-15 bolt carrier assembly

    Blowback action

  • How should I store my CA-legal AR-15 for home defense?

I live in the state of California, where all the gun laws restrict our AR-15's to 10-round mags.

I own two 10-round magazines, and I've been thinking about keeping them loaded while I store my AR-15, but I'm aware that it would wear out the springs. So I've heard around to keep them loaded halfway to reduce wear on the springs, but that would leave me with 5 rounds per magazine, and in the event I need to reload in a high-stress situation (considering that reloading a CA-legal AR-15 w/ a magazine lock is DIFFICULT), Im worried that I wouldn't be able to have enough ammunition in the event that I need it the most.

So does anyone have any advice on how to store my mags loaded that won't wear out my magazines for months and potentially years to come?
