How do I have my deceased father's name replaced as the primary name on EE US Saving's bonds/?
My father passed away in 2010, but we never took his name off the EE bonds. My mother's name is on them as secondary owner. Can I get his name removed and put my name on as secondary owner? HOW! The US Treasury has since changed their website, and I can't figure any of it out. The bank says, "We don't do that anymore". I have some stocks I can sell at a loss to offset some of the tax burden. We held off transferring them due to tax burdens from another estate. Any help would be appreciated! I just want mom's name as primary, and mine as secondary. If that won't work, I am cashing the whole lot in.
4 AnswersInvesting3 years agoHow do I obtain a writ without hiring a lawyer?
I need 4 writs to obtain copies of documents that insurance companies are refusing to provide. I have one call center idiot admitting someone tried to illegally collect on one policy on tape. I need the dates the policies were filed and the written content of the policies, as to beneficiaries, tax deferment, amounts, etc. I also need bank records of withdrawal, brokerage account dates of withdrawal, etc. I When obtaining a writ for garnishment it was just a form. Is it the same thing to request copies from the "claims department" of an insurance company? So far the executor of the estate has handled over $250,000 of money that is NOT legally part of the estate under state law, they have tried to cash policies with single beneficiaries, again, not part of the estate. I have their lawyer on audio tape lying about the whereabouts of the money, notification to creditors, the status of the probate process, accusing other people of stealing money based purely on hear say, and finally him assaulting me to get the audio tape. He got at tape. It was not the tape, but all is fair when you won't let me leave the office without using force to take my personal property. The recording is 100% legal under state law. I need these policies and other information to file with the State Supreme Court, and I need it soon. I am not paying $400 an hour to have someone fill out forms.
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoI have been paying taxes on part of a house that does not even exist, can I get a refund or rebate?
I was needing a quick square footage for my house & found the county tax assessor has a part of my house drawn & computed way too large. It is so large it won't even fit on the lot. I have paid based upon over 1650 square feet when the house is closer to 1300 square feet. They assessor's office shows parts of my hose are on the neighbors land & on their porch. They also show the inside of some walls are longer than the outside, by as much as 19 feet! One wall is 42 feet long on the outside, but the assessor has it listed as 42' long inside & 47' on the inside. Another pair of rooms add up to 7' on the outside but their tax plans list 19.5' on the inside. What, did I buy a faulty Tardis from Doctor Who, or is Maricopa County screwing me? How do I get this straightened out? How do I get all the tax money I paid on property that cannot even physically exist, nor does it exist. BACK! These plans would be hilarious, if my taxes were not based on them. I have seen trained elephants that can draw better floor plans than this one.
5 AnswersUnited States7 years agoHow do I obtain a court order for documents?
It recently came to my attention the executors of my aunt's estate tried to defraud a beneficiary of $63,000 in an annuity. They also took on work well outside the specified legal scope of their duties. Their lawyer lied to my mother on tape, then chased me around his office to get the tape recorder. He got a tape, just not "the tape", and I was 100% within my legal rights to tape the meeting. Now we have missing annuities, missing policies, and a myriad of other activity that either shows a pattern or incompetence, or deception and fraud. Our financial adviser here is licensed, and well versed in the laws regarding probate. The executors are to deal with the estate, and ONLY the estate. Any financial instrument with a sole beneficiary under the laws of the state are NOT part of the estate, and are to be handed over to said beneficiary. They charged the estate to process paperwork they had no business even withholding. Later they tried to cash an annuity that was kicked back because it was not part of the estate. The issuers of these policies and annuities refuse to provide copies of the original documents, so HOW DO I OBTAIN A COURT ORDER? I am in Arizona, and the estate is in Colorado. I require these for a complaint we filed with Colo Supreme Court. They have agreed there is a legit complaint, but the more info I have, the better, and we are likely going to wind up in a civil suit. There are too many incidents to list in 5 of these forms. Any help out there?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoCan I do an effective job at exterminating termites myself?
I found a termite colony in the early mid stages in some MDF wall board. I have heard over and over again, that "I" cannot buy the stuff the pros use. Upon calling out the pros & looking at their arsenal of chemicals, every single chemical they mentioned to me was available on line to the public. Then they said "You don't have a slab injector, & you will never get a half gallon per foot of XYZ chemical into the holes". I used a rotary hammer, 18" long 1/2" drill bit and a 40" clay drill water injector I used when I drove ground rods as as an electrician. I put together a home made chemical mixture injector & had no issues at all getting 2 gallons of water into the slab holes with zero problems. I only need 4/10 gallon per hole. I have the field guide for pest control. Do I really need to hire a pro, and why? I will need a foamer for the small area indoors that we found the termites in, near a water leak. I found the critters while fixing the leak. I have used Timbor & similar wood treatments on furniture & vintage, as well as new wooden cabinets in the past with great success. If I can obtain regulated R12, I somehow doubt finding highly regulated insecticides is very hard either. Most ALL of the insecticides that were really dangerous were outlawed some years ago, and what is left is sold on line to anyone. I need to hit some more wood with the insecticide fungicide anyway, when I fix the area under where our new roof leaked, so buying extra foamer & Timbor is no big deal.
4 AnswersOther - Home & Garden7 years agoAn aunt died in Colorado Do the prices on her stock portfolio freeze on day of death?
My aunt died. She has a couple investment portfolios. Does the value of the stocks freeze upon her death since no one can trade them? Can the depreciate? I have had 4 answers. First said yes they are frozen at the value of the day of her death, second said no. The third was a lawyer and he insisted they are frozen at end of day prices. Now the representative insists they are not frozen at the day of death value. The lawyer said the stock portfolio value is frozen & can incur no losses unless we keep the stocks AND the estate is over 5 million dollars (which it aint) . I assume any depreciation can be taken from the representative's fees. An expensive lawyer said the value is set at market close value the day of her death. Is that true. Can the value go up or down between her death & liquidation or transfer to my portfolio? HELP! The executor's wife is a tax preparer & seems less than honest. I may be petitioning they be removed & sue them for court costs & travel expense. This is in the state of Colorado. Please help!
5 AnswersInvesting8 years agoQuit deed to avoid probate in Arizona. This is cut and paste from same question!?
This is under another category but please indulge my request for help. My mother has a surgery coming up. We had an idea as to how to avoid frozen assets, probate , retain liquidity of other assets, and transfer the house to both names using a quit deed putting the house in both names with it listed as my primary residence, which under state law is allowed. This would make the assets joint owned with me as a secondary. We went to see a lawyer for the will and quit deed. The lawyers separate all parties, including spouses. This was evident from what I saw from the waiting room. Once they got my mother alone they talked her into making as large an estate/probate tax burden as possible using scare tactics and BS. I have a friend who is a retired lawyer from another state. He says this is a common tactic. It allows this lawyer we saw to skim 10% of the estate value off as fees. Is this even ethical? Since it was a private conversation everything will be "hearsay" in court. Is there some way we can actually get this done with the legal documents and get it done the way we want it done as is legally allowed under state law, and avoid another fiasco, or are all lawyers this crooked? As for this law office, I may have to let an old friend set them up for a law suit and ethics hearing. Can a house be joint owned by mother and son in Arizona? If not, then can it still be sold to me for $20, and a quit deed filed putting it in my name. Every state is different. The banking was the last straw. Having her list me as an "agent" on the accounts definitely will put those assets in as part of the estate, and subject them to being frozen upon her death. The scare tactic used to try to encourage that was "what is I get in a car accident, and I get sued?" Why the hell do I pay out the *** for insurance above and beyond the state minimum coverage? This law office preys upon the elderly, and makes sure no one else is allowed in the same room while they do so. Correct me if I am wrong, PLEASE, but that is not part of legal "ethics" is it? It looked more like a hustle, shuck and jive routine to me. I have no wish to cheat anyone, or throw mama outta the house and into the street. I got two of her investments out of some awful bond fund that was bleeding red ink and into a more diversified fund making money at a clip of around $80/day, and into stocks making a profit too. It seems all these lawyers wanted to do was fluff up the estate so they have a bigger amount to skin their 10% off of later. I also have my own LLC to protect myself in my business, and 80% of the time I am going to the store I stop by a shop for business purposes, so the LLC should offer protection there too. Without a witness I assume and complaints to the bar would be useless. Our original plan was a quit deed putting joint ownership on the house, and will, & a power of atty to me if she becomes incapacitated. Now it looks like we are screwed on the quit claim, and may incur taxes if we file again and have to sell after her death. The law is 2 sales in 5 years tax free. . I would like some more feedback from the good people who read these and answer these questions.

1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance8 years agoWe are transferring some EE bonds to remove my late father's name & ad mine. What are the tax liabilities?
My father bought lots of EE bonds. We have several thousand dollars in EE bonds that have met their partial maturity time, but are still earning interest. When we transfer them are we liable for taxes on all that interest. When we cash them in do we have to pay on it again all over again?? What is the deal here? Mom and dad filed jointly. Dad bought the bonds and is primary on them. Now we want my name and my mother's name on them. Will this expose us or me to taxation on interest 2 times if and when we cash them in. I hate to say this, but F the government! If we have to pay taxes on the interest are the taxes deductible as we have actually gained nothing but paper instruments that are not readily liquid? When we cash them in do we have to pay taxes on the full amount of interest AGAIN?? WTF?? The income was taxed that bought those useless pain in the butt things. I can see why dad had me cash all mine in while I was a full time student. Who is liable for the taxes due? Should we transfer them or cash them in. Some are paying 7%. The average of all together is around 4.4%. I am leery about government anything anymore. Should we leave them in my mother's name and then what do we do if she dies? If they are in her name will we pay taxes to transfer them after death. Can we transfer them if she is dead. What if they are in the will? Then it is probably a tax on the whole amount! HELP!
2 AnswersUnited States8 years agoWhat is a good way to know when a corporation's quarterly earnings report is due?
Yahoo has a list. I know there is a 6 week span with more than other periods, but how does one know when the next quarterly earnings report is due on a company? Out of over 8000 stocks hunting through Yahoo's list is a bit impractical.
3 AnswersInvesting9 years agoWhat is the fastest way to buy and sell stocks?
I have some money to get back into trading stocks, and options. As for stock quick gain what is the fastest way to buy and sell at the posted price? Some places have a 30 minute to 5 hour lag depending on how stupid trading is at the time. 5 hours is usually on IPOs which I usually avoid like monkey plague anyway. Some IPOs are great but getting in in the first day is not a priority on good ones. I just need a way to buy, sell,. & swap ASAP. I know about limits, bid orders, options, straddle, strangle, triads, butterflies, on the time options, and usually do fairly well. I know the risks. In 2 days I am up $600. I can't do that spinning wrenches, or selling retail goods. With a faster response I would be up $872. Some days you lose! So who knows which method or company gets a transaction done the fastest.
2 AnswersInvesting9 years agoIf I have the ingredients to make meth can I go to jail?
I went to try to buy some Lye. The store stopped selling it. I want it for photo resist developing in electronics PC board work. I was informed they no longer sold it due to all the meth labs. I have MEK Naptha and those are with finish stripping solvents, and cleaning solvents except the MEK is sometimes with PVC pipe tools. I have "white gas" and it is with the camping stuff. Amonium Nitrate is with the gardening stuff for the fruit trees. Lithium batteries are will the rest of the batteries. Everything listed is in my house including some cold pills. Nothing is remotely together, and some items have been stored with their respective legal use associated products for years. I was stunned to find out I have the makings of a meth lab scattered across the property. The Lye is with the etching compound and tinning compound. Every single item has a legit use and the other products to ascertain that is how I use them. Can I still go to jail? I have no intent on making meth. I used it way back when and found the tweaker community to totally suck. If I could sell it to non psycho humans I might consider it, but I'd rather starve and live in a tent than deal with tweakers financially. I can demonstrate how I use each ingredient for lawful and safe purposes. I was still told I could be jailed for having a meth lab. Is this true? What has the world come to? If I have a baseball bat do I have intent to kill someone with it, and should I be charged with that too? I refurbish old guitar amps radios, etc, and I do electrical work. Solvents bases and other chemicals I just use every so often for normal legal purposes. WTF?
4 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police9 years agoWho makes a good straight razor at a decent price>?
I like philarmonium, Duble Duck or other Solingen made blades, but the prices are very high. Who makes one with a nice blade that sharpens like the old Solingen razors or Wenger Swiss Army blades stays sharp, and keeps a great edge. I used to have a couple of straight razors. One was a throat razor. That is what I used a lot, because I usually have a beard, but trim or shave around it on my throat. I do not have $500 to replace them. I am debating on one of the cheapo ones with a disposable blade. Those disposable blades are kind of crummy though. They could be made much sharper and smoother, but to me sharpening disposable stuff is a waste ot time.

2 AnswersSoftware9 years agoMy dad passed away Dec 11, 2011, Now how does mom file?
My dad worked for the USDA for 45 years, retired in 1994, and had Civil Service Retirement Annuity Fund. He was alive most of 2011, and the Annuity was paid all but 20 days at the joint rate for retiree and spouse. One check was docked maybe $200 for December. How does my mother file for that year? She gets $400/mo in SSI and dad got $2400/mo after insurance deductions. There are some small dividends, and interest for investments. That may or may not be relevant. The life Insurance checks were not sent until January. Do they go on 2011, or 2012. Does my mom file a joint return or single? I found the withholding rate was for 4 dependents. Dad must have never removed myself and my brother from 1985 and 1988. No wonder they always owed at the end of the year.. Mom's main question is now that her spouse is deceased how should she file for 2011? Jack was alive until Dec 11. The bank says they will cash checks with Jack's name on them, as long as mom's is on the check too. . We also had an issue with a 2009 return, but that is another question.
3 AnswersUnited States9 years agoDo they make a 1/2 11 nut? or M 12 2.00 nut? or cap nut(s)?
My mom ask me to find her a cap nut to replace one on some park style bench she has on the porch.
I went to the hardware store and the nuts and rod look like they are some unique very coarse thread on a 1/2" diameter rod. They are too coarse for an M12 1.75 metric as well as the 1/2" 13 NC ASE nut and bolt. I suspect this thing has some oddball threads made with pipe threading dies and is 1/2 11 NPT on a 1/2" OD rod. You have got to love those Asian countries that make this stuff. It is not that bad a quality, but the parts are non standard. Its the importers like Walmart, or Home Depot I dislike for not at lest specifying the stuff be made with standard sized hardware, metric or SAE, I could care less which. It may be Japanese Industry Standard, or British (whatever their stuff is called). It looks like my dad probably swept up a $250 cap nut. Does anyone know of a 1/2 x 11 nut or M12 2.00 thread pitch? Do they know of some other standard from the UK, USSR, China, etc that this seems to fit? Next do they know who sells this stuff? Either of those would be pretty darn close. I am still suspecting this hardware is some goofy non standard crap made up with second hand machinery from who knows where. Does anyone have any ideas as to if there exists a 1/2 inch or M12 size cap nut or regular nut that I can use? My other options are 1/2" threaded rod (looks like crap, and hard to make paint stick too) or threading some 1/2 " rod back 40mm or a couple inches on each end. Either way I am out $12-$30 for a missing nut. I will go crawl around and look again, but I am sure its long gone, or in with a batch of 1/2 13 stuff waiting to make someone really mad on a later date. Hey if it was an easy one I'd already know the answer. Yes it is technically a home and garden question. Which has more nuts and bolts, a car or your garden? Guys with cars, tractors and other machinery in their gardens, like my family, are excluded from that one.LOL
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoOK I got my program to act normal, but I still want to put windows 7 pro in as my OS?
What do I need to do the change over to windows 7., and IS DDR 3 that much better than DDR 2? Qickie two part question. I like my board and the extra PCI slots. etc. It is supposed to be able to run a quad core, but the fast dual core is fine, but it seems WIN 7 is what Vista should have been and its time to change. How do I convert over? Would upgrading to a quad core be of any benefit too? Mainly I just want Windows 7 and Office 2010. (Win 7 pro) What are these claims of Windows 7 for $25 on Craigslist? Sounds shady to me.
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoI was told I needed to upgrade my desktop. To what? and why?
My board is an Asus that has a fast processor Dual Core Intel, and it can be upgraded to a Quad Core no problem. I think my OS is 32 bit, but I am sure it is Windows XP Pro. I have DDR2, and the only real issue I could think of was DDR 3 vs DDR 2 when I got the system in 2007. Windows Vista seemed like a real turd and so I opted for XP pro, but think Windows 7 is now a viable upgrade. I have a friend who can most likely get me a good discount on it. I have other friends who use bootleg versions from off the web, but these seem a little shaky and dishonest. IMHO SO far I have seen little if any support from having a licensed product though. When I switch OSs, how do go about this? Should I go with DDR 3 and scrap my expensive mother board? Is it that much better than DDR 2? I am having real problems loading an older simple program that has some kind of funky over protected copyrighted material/program on it and it acts as if there are remnants from the old program still in my system. My solution was to get a cheap (as cheap as possible) lap top that I can use with WI Fi on the go, or when my IP's service is down. I have run searches for this older program and its component parts to no avail. I think it should load on a fresh computer if it has never had this program on it before. Upgrading my desk top every 3 years when I got the best I could afford and spent almost $3000 on a custom built system (including printers and a coolermaster tower) seems rather extreme. These BFTS programs did not like to load the first time, and acted weird. I think Win 7 is a good move, but why change anything else? I have one of 2007's fasted dual core processors, and chipsets. I have the 2M RAM etc, and have no real problems besides this program. I have had some virus crap I had to get rid of, and everything worked fine when this was cleared up. What can I do to get this POS program to run?

I ask this question and somehow never got an answer and it seems to have slipped into oblivion. OK some details: I emailed some guy in Flagstaff, and got the email kicked back to me saying his email address was invalid, non existent, etc, and the email kept bouncing back and forth. I got this error message from an AT&T server, and the email sent back as well. After this all my emails were bouncing back and forth making everyone mad as hell when they each got 40 or 50 copies. I emptied the "sent" file and nothing. I emptied the deleted file too. Finally I found some directory server address in my accounts advanced page for my email out "send" server, WTF was going on there? It seems my emails were hi jacked from POP west cox 's server and routed to some F'd up AT&T server. Any ideas? I am now having a very hard time sending larger files. Pictures and PDFs that used to go no problem are sticking bouncing back or just not sending at all. My IP says I supposedly have faster service now, but is faster more capacity for email attachments????
