I am 24 years old. I graduated high school at the age of 18 and went to school for a year to become a nurse. After that year, I took 6 months off to go through initial entry training with the Ohio Army National Guard. When I came home, I went back to school, got married to my high school sweetheart, and had my daughter, Devon, who is now 3 1/2. We added a son to our little family, Austin, born in Dec. 2007.
Mirena BC and sex...?
I had my Mirena implanted one week ago. Out of curiosity, I felt for the strings... they are wires!!! My question is for all Mirena users that can feel their strings... do they hurt your partner? I am scared to have sex with my husband, he may get hurt on them!! I plan to ask my doctor when I go back, but wanted some 'real' answers!! Thanks! :-)
(I posted this elsewhere, but didn't get any answers, so I decided to try posting it here)

3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoNewborn and second hand smoke.?
I am due on Dec. 25 and it is looking like I will deliver before then. So, here's the issue. Usually for Christmas, we visit my parents who are divorced at their home. My father and step-mother both smoke, inside, but they go outside when people are there. This Christmas is a little different. My step-mother is in the final stages of a battle with cancer and this will be her last Christmas. Since she is so sick, she doesn't go outside to smoke anymore, and it is her house. So, what to do? Take my son, and 2 year old daughter to their house, and expose them to second hand smoke or not go at all. I know they won't smoke while we are there, but before we get there, I am sure they will. And the house will be smoky. My step-mother can't leave the house, so having them here isn't an option.
I am just looking for what other mothers would do in this situation. I know medically, they shouldn't go. BUT she is very close to passing away and I want my step-mother to have a nice Christmas!

9 AnswersParenting1 decade agoDiaper with best absorbancy?
My daughter currently wears Huggies Snug & Dry diapers. They work wonderfully during the day, but when she wakes up in the morning, she has peed through the diaper, through her pj's and through her crib sheet. I am wondering what diaper, in your experience, has the best absorbency.
She is 21 months old, and she isn't urinating too much.
19 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoCheap wood paneling makeover?
We have a room in our house that has cheap wood paneling from the 70's on the walls. My husband doesn't think that we should paint over it... he wants to wait until we remodel and do it right, taking it down and putting up dry wall. BUT I plan on using the room as a nursery in a few months and would like to spruce up the walls. Is there any way to do this without paint? Could I buy a cheap can of varnish and use that? any suggestions would be appreciated!!

12 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBaby Shower RSVP?
The invitations were sent out for my baby shower with a RSVP by Nov. 1.... 35 invitations sent out, only 1 RSVP? Should the person hosting it call people or should we just count on only 1 person coming?
The people invited are family and close friends, all of whom seemed certain to attend.

2 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoProblems with the in-laws...?
It's a long story, but I would like opinions.
Over father's day weekend, my husband, 18 month old daughter, and I went camping with the in-laws and about 30 other members of my husbands family. I requested to have a campsite aways from everyone for privacy reasons and because my daughter is a light sleeper and I am 18 weeks pregnant. I wanted some alone time without 40 people breathing on me. Well, day 2 comes along and we return from swimming to find a 40 foot RV parked 10 feet in front of our tent. They refused to move it and there was no place else for us to move our tent. I got very upset and said that we would leave in the morning. Mother in law called me a selfish little brat and a slefish f***ing b***h in front of everyone and my daughter. Father in law also called me names and told me that I was a bad mother. All of this while I was holding my daughter and she was listening to every word. My husband was not there at the time. I packed what we needed and was going to leave that
12 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoAcid reflux?
Just an opinion question for all of the parents on here:
Does it seem like doctors are throwing around the diagnosis of acid reflux around today like they used to do with colic in the older days?
As in, if the baby has any symptom that may possible be acid reflux, they prescribed Zantax like it's nothing? And they used to say if a baby cried a lot, they just said it was colic without doing much else to determine the true cause?
Am I being paranoid or overly suspicious?
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMy dauhgter's first night in toddler bed...?
Tonight is my daughter's first night in her toddler bed. We converted her crib this morning and she did well with her nap. Tonight, I checked on her before I went to bed and to my utter surprise, my darling daughter had rolled out of bed and was asleep under her bed. I know that she couldn't have woken up during her fall, because she would have cried ( she's very emotional). Thankfully, I put blankets beside her bed in case this happened... but now what? Do we continue with the toddler bed or do we go back the crib? She is 18 months old and fell out of her crib last night while attempting a failed jailbreak. And is she old enough to have a pillow in bed with her? She loves our pillows and I think that she will lay toward the top part more if she has a pillow there. Any advice will be helpful, she is our first child!! Thanks so much!!
4 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoUltrasceen test?
I had the ultrascreen test done last week. It's the test that checks for Down Syndrome, Trisonomy 18, 13, and 9. The OB said my results were normal. This morning she calls to tell me that I have an elevated risk for Down Syndrome for my age and a decreased risk for Trisonomy for my age... she said that they would discuss this with me more in depth at my next appointment...

My daughter is 16 months old and hasn't really shown an interest in going potty. We bought her a seat 2 months ago and she will sit on it, but nothing else. She is to the point where she will take off her diaper if she can. When we change her, she refuses to cooperate. She will turn and twist and stiffen up and this is terrible when it's a #2! It is getting to be hell for us!!! I've heard of people potting training at this age... so, HELP!! Any tips will be helpful and very much appreciated!!
10 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agofetal movements!?
I am 11 weeks pregnant with baby number 2, and I swear that I can sometimes feel the baby move...
I know that the baby is only 2 inches long and weights about an ounce and that normally a mother feels movement between 16 and 20 weeks, but I feel something?
Is this my anticipation and excitement getting the best of me, or has anyone else felt movement this early?!
