  • What's the most efficient way to turn a series of falling spheres into repeatable mechanical energy?

    For example, if some steel ball bearings are dropped, how can their fall used to most efficiently turn an axil over and over (without having to 'reset' the mechanism)?

  • Is this reality actual reality?

    I have this idea, that the chances that this is 'reality' is infinitely less likely then this being a 'simulated' reality. If there are civilizations which are able to simulate reality, and they each simulate multiple realities, then we could be one of those simulations (or even, if the simulations create simulations of their own).

    I thought this when reflecting on how some elements of our 'reality' are dependent on observation (for example, the observation paradox in quantum physics) and how the larger universe operates on a different set of rules (relativity) than quantum mechanics.

    Does this seem plausible? Is this reality?

  • How can I tell whether my husband has a terrible illness (which he is keeping secret)?

    My husband is not well, and will not tel me what is wrong. Two weeks ago, on Thursday, I came home from women's fellowship, and my husband's doctor was at our house. When I came in through the front door, he came down stairs from our bedroom putting his shirt on. He seemed distracted, and shortly after, his doctor came downstairs. My husband explained that he was worried but was sure it was nothing, and his doctor didn't add anything (she was observing his privacy, which I respect) but I could tell she was concerned and worried. Last week, my husband had to return to the doctor for a followup appointment, and was gone for 3 hours. When he came home, he seemed exhausted. I am worried that he has leukemia or something horrible like that. How do I get him to tell me what is wrong? This weekend, he is going in for overnight observations and testing, and will not be back until Sunday afternoon (he will be missing church). I am worried. What should I do?

  • For an irregular hexagon, (side lengths given in details) I want to know various angles and height/width.?

    Here are the known values of the irregular hexagon;

    Top and bottom lines are parallel and the same length (call this length '1').

    The lower left and right sides are the same length as the top and bottom sides.

    The upper left and right sides are the same length as each other, being 1.618034.

    The width to height ratio of the irregular hexagon must be 1:1.618034.

    Given the above;

    What is the height and width of the irregular hexagon?

    What are the individual interior angles of the irregular hexagon?

    This is my first time on Answers, thanks for your assistance. K_ndal.
