Can someone explain the "holding the ball" rule in plain English?!?
My other half has tried explaining this rule to me but I don't understand the logic of it. If a player is physically held or prevented from disposing of the ball then why is the free kick awarded AGAINST him? I don't get that he is penalised for holding the ball and accused of having "prior opportunity" when he has no possible way of hand-passing or disposing of the ball correctly.
