Can somebody refer me to a good real estate attorney in or around Montebello, CA?
Last month, I bought a house. The seller claimed that it was well-maintained, in "excellent condition." The inspector I hired said it was a great starter home. He said it was in move-in condition, copper plumbing and good electrical.
In reality, it's been a real-life Tom Hanks movie----the money pit. When we took the rugs out, we found water damage. When we took wall paneling down, we found no insulation, unsealed windows and doors. The "copper plumbing" was rotting. The pipe under one of the bathrooms wasn't connected to the sewer line. The pipes from the laundry area were connected to the toilet and to the kitchen sink.
The electrical was a disaster. 1 line fed the whole house; there were burnt wires everywhere. And they used plastic instead of metal casings.
The buyer's agent I had has been of no use; he already got his commission.
It's costing me about $50,000 (at last count) to move into my "move-in condition," "excellent condition" house.
1 AnswerRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoDisclosure fraud, Inpecto's incompetence: What do I do now?
I just bought a house, in CA, and it's been one unpleasant discovery after another.
The sellers said that only major problem was a bad sewer line. The inspector said no major problems.
Since moving Ive found unframed walls, an unsafe water heater, an unsafe attic, inadequate electrical and plumbing, and, no gas lines in the kitchen.
There was wood paneling in one of the bedrooms. The painter said that the wall sounded hollow---he was right, when we removed it, we found there was no framing. Another panel covered up a door wich was not sealed. A window was similarly covered in the kitchen.
A plumber said the water heater was unsafe and the pipes would have to be replaced. An electrician said the breakers were ancient and would require replacement.
The gas company won't turn on the gas because of unsafe conditions.
The carpet hid water damage and a bad attempt to fix termite damage.
My question is: how do I hold the seller and the inspector accountable?

Would you oppose the following:
Awarding temporary residence to illegal immigrants, and their spouses and minor children, if they join the military. If they serve honorably, they gain permanent residence. But, they, along with the family lose their residence if they are discharged under less than honorable circumstances.
If you oppose, why?
