I'm talking the original Hank here, the one who did cheatin' heart, i'm so lonesome i could cry, and lonesome whistle. All these songs are great for the crappy mood i'm in, and i gotta get drunk but i sure do dread it 'cause i know just what i'm gonna do. i want whiskey brands here, not interested in teetotalers opinions.

Please notice the "best-ever" part of this question. Let's assume there were some pretty good country music singers fifty or more years ago, and work from there to today. PLEASE LIMIT YOUR ANSWER TO YOUR TOP TEN BEST PICKS (or fewer if you so desire).

The song is "Lipstick Stains," and I first heard it in 1974. I can't remember the artist's name - that is the question; who sang it? I had it on eight-track, given to me by a friend, and I'm pretty sure that "Lipstick Stains" was the title track, meaning of course that this was also the name of the 'album.' The only other song I can remember from it was entitled, as nearly as I can recall, "Loose Women, Bad Transmissions, and Too Much Cheap Booze."

The packaging, or artwork, was very unsophisticated and simple, so it may have been produced by a small, independent label, possibly a regional one. I am from Mississippi, and my friend from Texas via Louisiana. If you are a walking encyclopedia of country music, or know someone older who is such, I would really appreciate the answer to this. If anybody actually has this recording, please respond. It was neither Willie Nelson, nor Jason Morphew; the only two guesses I've had so far.

I can't remember who it was...a friend gave me the eight-track tape (so I'm old...what ya gonna do?). Also on the same album was a song entitled "[something bad, something else bad] and Too Much Cheap Booze." The label was really chintzy...like small record company or something.
