  • Tips On Applying in USCGA?

I'll be a freshmen in high school next year, enrolled in an academically rigorous academy.

I plan on taking Honors and AP Classes there as well as playing two sports: girl's lacrosse and field hockey.

I've done my homework on the Academy and I know it's tough to get into. My question is: What's more important on my application? What is something that's really important that the admissions department looks into?

Any more helpful information on applying and getting into the United States Coast Guard Academy is welcome.

  • When no one believes in your dreams?

There's this school a long way's from the state I live in, and it's a boarding school. It's only 5 days and the other two you live with your family. The open house was supposed to be Saturday, but with Sandy +complications, there's no way I can make it. In fact, my mom just told me to forget about even trying to get into the school.

I feel like everyone's giving up except for me, and it not only annoys the heck out of me and makes me want to punch something, but I feel really depressed. Should I even try anymore?

  • Music and Practicing?

I've got Region auditions coming up in October, and I've been practicing every week since I got the music. I understand it, and it's not difficult once I've come to that point, but now I feel super lazy and sluggish. It takes major pep talks for me to practice. :(

My private tutor has been great, teaching me all the excerpts, but my teacher at school keeps pounding and putting pressure on ALL OF US. It's ridiculous. It's not that she's getting to me- it's just I feel horrible if I don't practice. Or even if I do practice, just not the Region Music.

Does anyone know how to take care of this? Or fix it? I'm a rather young player, violin, if that helps.

  • Catherine The Great Question.?

I just finished watching a really in-depth documentary on Catherine The Great, but I couldn't help but question her motives. Why would someone care so much about a country they weren't even born in? Even Peter the Third, who was as close to Russian as you could get, preferred Prussia. It's strange- how she could go to extreme levels, like killing her husband, and ordering Ivan the Sixth's death, just to get power of a country she had to "tie" to. Surely, she had family connections, and even stronger allies there, but why did she care so much? What advantage was she really getting by being Empress of Russia? Sure wealth, privilege, power, but most rulers just stopped at that. They didn't care about the future like Catherine did. I go for ambition- she didn't want her name to be forgotten. She wanted to set herself up as a prime ruler in Russia's history.

But sometimes ambition can be a bad thing. Am I right?

  • Simple Ways to Deep Condition?

    You Should Know:

-Relax hair about 2 times a year

-Family history of having really long hair

-Central African (if that helps determine hair type)

I'm in the process of growing my hair out, which shouldn't be that hard considering my family history, and I want to start deep conditioning. There's pages & pages of videos on Youtube, but none of them have a really simple way of doing it.

-I heard Argan Oil frm Morocco is supposed to be really great for your hair so I went out and bought Creme of Nature's Deep Conditioner Argan Oil. I've used it one before and I liked it, but it wasn't a deep condition.

    Help please?

^^ Hi everyone, thanks for opening this up! (and if it was automatic, oh well, thanks to you too)

but as you can see, yeah, I'm shopping for Blog Names, and I'm very quirky.

    What I have so far:

-Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String (you know...like, when books come to your door directly from the shop..?? Does ANYONE get this?!)

-Pull Up a Cuppa Tea, Love (this one is Brititsh, it's some kind of saying and I like it)

Would love it if you could add your suggestions. Come on people, brain power!

    ~Thanks, Really.

    3. What kind of things do you do for fun there? Other than skiing and snowboarding?

  • Payless Ballet Shoes vs. Dance Store Shoes?

I'm going back into the dance scene and I need shoes, leotards and tights. I checked out my local dance store's website and it had everything I needed except the shoes were a little expensive. I checked out Payless' "American Ballet Company" collection of dance shoes and I was wondering if those were no good...or they weren't worth it? Should I just get shoes from my local dance store or just get the Payless shoes?

Good Luck!! (to me, mostly) :)

  • Your take on Almay Smoki-Eye Kit?

Very interested in this product. I love drugstore makeup and I've read some reviews online and most of them said things like "simple" and "easy". I need something flawless and simple for school next week: NOTHING overboard. Did you like this product? If you need any background information:

    1. I'm black (african actually)

    2. I wear foundation, blush, and lip gloss.

    Thanks!
