  • Score on British ability scale?

My little girl has just been tested using the bas ii and bas iii tests, on her cluster scores she achieved a verbal cluster on 13th percentile with a ss of 83, non verbal 6th percentile ss 77, her spatial cluster was 63rd percentile ss 105 her psychologist said she has no significant learning difficulty, her gca came out at 85 16th percentile and special non verbal 89 at 23rd. My concern is the difference between her spatial and other scores, we do have a meeting coming up but am I right to think this difference is a worry?

  • Help understanding astigmatism and prescription readings?

I have had glasses for several years now for short sightness im 34 but its only been mild so i rarely wear them. Last week after swimming I scratched my eye, it was very painful but within a couple of hours it was fine although i noticed my vision was still a little affected, a few days later after swimming again I realised how bad my eyes felt after getting out, it did settle again but i noticed i was getting double vision in one eye. I made an appointment as its not felt right and the optician has noticed quite a big change in the astigmatism level, he said that the double vision might settle and may still be due to the scratched cornea however he also mentioned that i would need a lot of monitoring to make sure i was developing a condition called kerracotonus. Would the scratched cornea clear up and put my astigmatism level back how it was or did he just mean the double vision may settle, im a bit confused now, i know i should have asked and might call back in but trying to work out now whether the scratch to the cornea as just made me realise my eyes have been getting worse. I dont think the myopia is a problem i think thats quite mild but may be someone could help interpret my reading in english lol so i understand more what the levels mean.

My right eye which is fine no problem has levels sph -1.25 cyl -0.75 and axis 90

My left eye and the one im having double vision in reads at sph -025 cyl -2.25 and axis 80

The astigmatism level was similar to my other eye last time but has changed and im not sure whether this level could have been from a scratch or what and how bad is this reading? sorry just confused over my reading any advice would be great. Thank you :)

  • Partial amputation of finger?

My little girl had an accident on saturday trapping her finger in a door, it partially amputated her finger which needed surgery, she now needs to keep the dressing on for the next 10 days when they will remove it to check the wound. I am just wondering what sort of time period we would be looking at for healing and ability to use the finger again? I'm so nervous about going for the dressing changed and what it will look like so would be grateful of any advise of what to expect

  • Do you encourage your children to hit back?

Been to a toddler group today with my 3 yr old, she had lots of fun but near snack time she told her big sister she didnt like a girl who was sat next to her, I told my 3 yr old daughter this was not a nice thing to say and that she shouldnt say that as it makes people sad, whilst I was telling her this the other girls mum leaned to her daughter and said if she touches you, you hit her. My daughter hadnt hit her or touched her and I just thought it was a really horrible thing to encourage in children so young. Surely if you had a problem with another child you would see their parents wouldnt you, especially when the children involved are only 3 yr olds

  • Could she have sensory issues?

My little girl is almost 4, shes a lovely little girl, goes to nursery and out of 4 groups is in the second from bottom based on ability. We adopted her but have always said there is something a little different, recently she has grown increasingly difficult regarding clothing and I cant decide whether she is just obsessed about it or has actually got a problem.

Her day could be like this, as shes getting up shes asking what shes wearing for bed that night, can she have pants for nursery, will she be getting changed after nursery. She hates wearing uniform after school and gets upset if shes not changed straight away, as for clothes, her socks have to be perfect, they have to feel tight or they move and she cant deal with it as it doesnt feel right, she refuses to wear a dress or skirt because she says it goes down, I think she means it feels wrong on her legs, her shoes have to be fastened tight enough, the arguements we have over pyjamas is unreal, one night she will happily wear her shorts and tshirt pjs but the next night a different pair or the same style she wont wear and will cry, her bed might have bumps in it, it has to be straight or its not right, her bobble in her hair has to feel tight or its not right, she took it out at school one day because it had moved (she had kept checking it so had moved it herself) she then took it out and asked her teacher to do it but the teacher didnt do it right so she was in a state when I went for her, if she gets water on herself even a slight bit she has to get changed, she has been known in nursery to take off all her clothes and get more out of lost property without asking lol

The whole day is focused on questions about clothes and what she will be having on next and whether its right, its so draining listening to it day in day out but I dont know whether its a phase and normal or a problem and what to do next. She will play with sand, playdough etc so no problem there

  • Help understanding why our Corn Snake Bit?

We bought our teenage sons a corn snake each for Christmas, the snakes are beautiful, we got them on the 22nd and left them to settle until Christmas Day before being handled, the shop we bought them from said this was fine, they are only 5 months old, they are due to be fed on the 27th December and have been used to being fed one pinkie every seven days, the boys handled the snakes on Christmas day and they seemed fine, calm and settled with them, today one of the boys went to handle his snake and although it was fine on coming out of its setting after a few minutes it suddenly started wriggling as if trying to get away and then before my son could get it back in its tank it bit him, obviously we know it must be something we have done as I know they rarely bite. It didnt hurt him and hasnt put him off his snake but we are hoping to learn were we went wrong.

Could it be that because he is due to be fed tommorow he bit?

Our other snake shed its skin the day after we got him so perhaps it could be hes due as well although his skin doesnt look any different but then again we have never had snakes before so dont know what to look for.

Could it be we are handling them too much too soon?

Any other tips for us would be very gratefully recieved.

    Thanks :)

  • At what age did your baby say mama or dada to the appropriate person?

I know babies say it early on but was just wondering at what age they begin to understand who is mum and who is dad rather than anyone being mum and dad

My little one is almost 13 months and has just in the last week started to pull to standing just wonder at what age did your little one start walking with furniture. I'm not worried about her development she has been a little delayed in some of her gross motor skills as she only started crawling two weeks ago but she is fine and healthy, just wondered how everyone else little ones did?

  • What causes pale gums?

What causes pale gums, I have noticed only today how pale my gums have gone, I gave blood two weeks ago and had the thumb prick test for anaemia which came back ok and I gave the blood as normal but over the last couple of days my gums really have gone very pale and I have no idea what could have caused it, surely had I been anaemic it would have shown up before giving blood wouldnt it?

  • Should I be worried about my 10 and half month old?

My little girl is 10 and half months old and mastered the art of sitting confidently about three weeks ago, however she makes no attempt to move, I know all babies are different I have three other children all who were at least crawling and pulling to standing by this age however this little one is adopted by us, I know some babies will skip the crawling stage and use other methods to get around such as bottom shuffling, pushing backwards, rolling etc but she wont do any, if I sit her on the floor she just stays where she is, she cant pull herself up and cant go from lying to sitting she seems to find everything quite difficult so I'm wondering now if it is something I should be worried about, although physically she looks healthy and is well her mum didnt take care of her whilst pregnant and drank too much and took drugs so maybe this is having some effect on her development but I just wonder when I should be concerned?
