  • Would the L.A. Police opinion be different if this were Obama/Biden?

Newser) – An effigy of Sarah Palin hanging from a noose outside a West Hollywood house has triggered a community furor, reports the Los Angeles Times. The effigy is part of a grim Halloween display which also shows a John McCain mannequin surrounded by flames and skeletons. Complaints calling the display a hate crime have been phoned in to the local sheriff, who said the effigy doesn't meet the criteria for such a crime, though it may violate good "taste."

"While these residents have the legal right to display McCain and Palin in effigy, I strongly oppose political speech that references violence," said West Hollywood's mayor. "I urge them to find more constructive ways to express their opinion." The owner of the house, which has drawn packs of photo-snapping onlookers, defended the display. "It's Halloween," he said. "It's time to be scary."

  • Can Obama's share the wealth plan be made retro-active?

Back in the late 80's my husband lost his job. We had 3 daughters and a son on the way. The economy was down and it was hard to find a job. Did I run to the local welfare office? NOOOOO! I worked three different jobs, waiting tables 6 hours for the early breakfast shift, working for the county holding a stop sign for 8 hours, then managing a gas station for 8 hours. After doing this for about 6 months, my husband was offered a mining job in Alaska, so we moved our family and he worked as many hours as he could so we could catch up on our bills and make a good life for our children, I also got a job as an office manager and worked up to 10 hours a day sometimes. We bought a house, a new car and our kids had a good life. He is now working in Nevada as an underground miner and we are buying a house in Colorado. He works as many hours as he can and makes a lot of money, but Obama wants to take away more of what he makes and give it to the less fortunate. We have worked our entire lives to be in the position that we are in now, without help from anyone. If Obama gets elected, we have to help everyone that is worse off than we are. We already pay 28% in taxes, that is 28.00 out of every hundred dollars, people with less income pay 15% in taxes, that is 15.00 out of 100 dollars. We pay almost double, why should we be taxed more? I think that if this happens, then we should be able to collect back payments from the government for the times that we needed the money, but didn't use it.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

  • Do you think this statement is hypocritical?

One of Clinton's staunchest supporters, Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., acknowledged there was some truth in Obama's remarks. But he said Republicans would use them against him anyway.

Isn't Clinton using his words against him?
