Severe bowel obstruction blockage but no pain?
1 AnswerOther - Health3 years agoIntestinal blockage / obstruction, tried just about everything?
About 4 weeks ago I became constipated because I was mostly sitting a lot and not drinking enough water. I started doing the things that worked for me once before: Mineral oil, high fiber diet, lots of water, drinking soluble fiber. I still was not walking much which I should have. I also started grinding up flax seeds and drinking/eating those, about a half cup a day.
I feel like I made it get worse. I'm not eating much anymore, and fortunately I still poop about once every 1 to 2 days but they are rather small poops (all soft stuff). I think I'm seriously blocked up and just a little bit can squeeze by over time. I almost wonder if the flax seeds got cemented together inside my intestines.
I've also on a few days drank a bottle of prune juice. With that I just poop out all the juice, with not much of anything else coming along.
I feel that it is inside the small intestines, but I can't be completely sure.
I've started taking MiraLax a few days ago (supposed to draw water into the poop). I currently do not have time to go for walks but in a few days I will be able to and I'm going to walk a lot! Maybe I should try an enema, I don't think it would help because I think the blockage is further up.
If it doesn't get better real soon I will have to go see a doctor. Are there any other tips?
3 AnswersOther - Health3 years agobogus stock option agreement?
hi. i was offered some stock options, the plan has many pages and i'm calling bs on it.
on the one hand it says this: "Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, in its sole and absolute discretion, and set forth in the applicable Grant Letter, each Option issued under the Plan shall be fully vested as of the Effective Grant Date of such Option".
ok, that sounds good but then it also says this:
"... an Option granted under the Plan shall terminate on the earliest of the following dates (the Termination Date):"
"The termination date of Grantee's Continuous Status as an Employee with the Company with or without cause..."
So the plan doesn't actually define 'vested' although it defines just about everything else. I take it that they say the stock is vested but the word may not have any real meaning and instead they can fire me at any time and my stock options will be gone.
Further, I'm supposedly given 3000 units with an exercise price of $15 per unit.
Then it says: "This Option is subject to these Plan terms and provisions in all respects, including without limitation potential adjustments to the number of Units and Exercise Price."
So basically they could adjust these numbers after the fact and for example say I only "own" 1 unit and the exercise price is now $1,000,000?
Does anybody else think this sounds fishy, like they're trying to trick me with make-believe?
1 AnswerInvesting4 years agogrubs crawling on driveway / carport?
i recently noticed gross white grubs with dark head crawling along the driveway. They are from the green June beetle. I wouldn't really care if they stay in the ground but what do you think makes them come out can crawl around in the carport?
Something they may be attracted to?
2 AnswersOther - Home & Garden5 years agowok seasoning discoloring food?
the seasoning (black) from a wok is peeling off at some parts. using the wok anyways. the onions and carrots get a slight darkish tint, probably from the seasoning.
is this bad, can you still eat it?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes5 years agonuclear power plant, turbine disconnected?
Hi,
I understand how nuclear power plants work, but what if you suddenly have to shut down the turbine. Let's say the grid goes offline. If you keep the turbine and generator running, something would burn up; so you have to disconnect the turbine right?
So where does the energy go then?
Doesn't the turbine use up a lot of that steam energy? If it had to be disconnected, what would happen? Would they just vent the steam into the air? If yes, wouldn't that dramatically increase water consumption?
6 AnswersEngineering6 years agoAm I getting smarter or losing touch?
I'm a rather competent person although like everyone else I have issues as well. I used to not care much about most things but in the past few years I've really changed. When somebody that is important to you, and there is something that is important to them, you don't just forget it. That's kind of what I mean. I feel like I'm much more on top of things now than I ever was. I very quickly notice now when somebody drops the ball on me and I tell them about it too. There have been some issues with my parents where I felt they were not being diligent regarding something that may have been important to me. I have no beef with them and never had. Maybe as I become more competent everyone else becomes less competent or so it may appear. I often feel like saying "come on, you can do better, this is not that difficult". I just can't figure out what is going on. I know I've changed but I don't know if it's a bad change or a good one. Sometimes I think I should just become a solitary person too, because when I try to hold people accountable for clearly dropping the ball, they feel that I'm being hard on them.

Hi, can I use an adjustable LDO linear regulator to directly drive a dc vibration motor, using about 100mA or is this a bad idea?
3 AnswersEngineering6 years agoI want to plead guilty to traffic citation.?
Hi, got a traffic ticket and it's a seemingly minor summary offense. The cop said he was giving me a break, no points and it's a $100 fine (not that bad). I would rather just plead guilty and pay the fine and be done with it. Is that realistic?
Can they change the ticket once I plead guilty?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police6 years agohow to drive piezo speaker?
Hi, any dynamic (normal) speaker must be driven between a negative and positive voltage. What about piezo speakers? do you drive them between 0 volt and a positive voltage? or do you also drive them between a negative and positive voltage?
1 AnswerEngineering6 years agomemory size, what is (8K x 8)?
If you see this as the memory size specification, what does that mean in terms of Kilobytes?
64K (8K x 8)
K must stand for Kilobits, is that right, so the actual size is 8 Kilobytes.
The datasheet says its 64K of memory is organized as 8,192 words by 8 bits.
I'm not used to a memory size being given in bits but is that pretty usual?

Let's say L is large and C is small. Does the circuit still have a resonance frequency at which it will oscillate?
1 AnswerEngineering6 years agoinstantly de-energizing inductor really impossible?
So apparently you cannot instantly cut current through an inductor because it would imply an infinite "kickback" voltage.
So what would happen if some did this anyway. Let's say a solenoid that is 10 feet long and suspended off the ground and really well insulated. Let's say a small explosive charge instantly disconnects current by vaporizing a wire and blowing the material away. Let's say this would create an air gap of 5 to 10 feet in length. The voltage to create an arc over such a long distance would need to be huge. So what would happen now. Current must continue to flow so voltage will become huge. Would the arc simply travel along the solenoid and burn everything up? I mean would it be possible in any way to literally and instantly disconnect the power?
2 AnswersEngineering6 years agointerrupting an inductive load?
So I'm talking about small inductors and solenoids. A lot of websites say that once the switch opens, the current continues to flow for a brief period. Now I know about the reverse voltage spike but I imagine this spike happens because the current is interrupted. Perhaps they say that the current continues to flow because the switch has a little arcing.
So let's say I completely interrupted the current (DC) to an inductor, wouldn't that mean that current would stop inside the inductor? Where else would it go right?
1 AnswerEngineering6 years agowhat causes sour metallic taste in "zero water" filter?
After a month or two the water starts tasting metallic, sour, lemmony, acidic, whatever we might call it. What exactly would cause this? I know it's time to replace the filter, I'm just curious what this taste comes from and if this is bad to drink.
1 AnswerChemistry6 years agoIs it true that semi-truck brakes can't stop it down a grade?
I guess semi trucks always need to be in a low gear going down grades, so what if the drive shaft snaps? Would the normal brakes on a semi truck be able to safely stop the truck going down a grade, just like any car can stop?
5 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation6 years agoWhy do some trailers have 3 axles when 1 can do the job?
I was thinking of a tri axle trailer, like a camper. If you drive it over a log or something and 2 axles come off the ground, then the whole thing is supported by just one axle. I assume this is not a problem as it must happen a lot. So if 1 axle can safely support the whole thing, why use 3 of them in the first place? Why not at least use just 2 axles. Do you see what I mean? 1 axle can safely support the weight, so 2 would be plenty, so why have 3 then, and why stop there, why not 10 axles then you know?
5 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation6 years agomorning exercise kills productivity (for me)?
Every website says that exercising in the morning will increase your productivity. The opposite is true for me. I work on the computer and need a lot of concentration. I am most productive if I get to work not too long after waking up (with some coffee of course). My mind goes into a work mode. However if I go for a walk first, then it is very hard for me to get myself to sit on the computer. I have a hard time getting into work mode after this exercise. What's up with that?

6 AnswersOther - Home & Garden6 years agoWho do I let down, girlfriend or guest?
I'm in a very complicated situation and I don't know what to do. My very good friend traveled a very long way to visit me. I only saw him once briefly in the past 10 years or so. He decided to visit me for a pretty long time, 2 weeks. This is very long I know, and it was hard on my girlfriend. She actually left for nearly a week to visit a friend and to get a break from them (my friend and his wife). She came back and the situation was a little awkward and my friend decided to get a hotel for the last 2 nights, because he knew there was some trouble between me and my girlfriend and he figured it would be easier for everyone. Well tomorrow I was supposed to visit two other friends together with my girlfriend, and those are not far away and I see them much more often. This also happens to be the last day my friend will be here.
So the question is, who do I please and who do I let down. My friend won't be happy if on his last day I decide to spend most of it without him and my girlfriend would be very upset at me if I let her down again and spend the day with my friend who I've pretty much spent the past 2 weeks with.
Naturally I would say it's girlfriend time, but I'm torn because it's that last day of my friend. What should I do?
Btw. I'm already thinking about just disappearing for the whole day.
