I am currently 17 years old and my ultimate goal is to get into nursing school to become an RN but in my near future, I will be getting my EMT license. (I already graduated high school/ EMT school)

I am currently looking into the Navy Reserves for healthcare training, but I'm not sure if it's right for me.

One of my ultimate deal breakers would be leaving home for an extended period of time, such as 6+ months. I realize boot camp would be 7-9 weeks, and I could be deployed in case of a crisis or if the Navy needs additional forces. I'm wanting to stay primarily at home so I can continue to take classes at my local community college and hopefully qualify for nursing school in San Diego in a couple years.

Would a commitment with the Navy Reserves interfere with my plans of getting into nursing school in the next couples years? Also, would a current EMT license qualify me for any healthcare jobs?

I'm talking to a recruiter this Friday and I would like to know a little more, so I can ask the recruiter more in-depth and specific questions.
