3 AnswersMathematics8 years agoA Math problem, help needed!?
I am given an arithmetic pattern: 1-x ; 2x-3 ; x+5
How do I calculate the value of 'x' ??
This is my attempt but it is wrong :( :
T2-T1 = T3-T2
3x+x = 7+4
4x = 11
x = 11/4
And how will I go about calculating the sum of the 1st 12 terms?? My "x" value is wrong and I cannot proceed, my textbook has x = 5. But how :( and the sum is 306??
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoA Sequence problem? Any help? Anyone?
2 ; 5 ; 2 ; 9 ; 2 ; 13; 2; 17
The next two terms would definitely be ...; 2 ; 21 ??
The pattern is: +3 ; -3 ; +7 ; -7; +11 ; -11...and so on
I have got that part quite clear, but how do I go around doing this:
Calculating the sum of the 1st 100 terms??? The ratio keeps changing! So I cannot get "d".
Please show me how to work this out, thx!

1 AnswerHomework Help8 years agoA Geometric Sequence problem (Just to check :] )?
The Geometric Sequence is: 8(x-2)^2 ; 4(x-2)^3 ; 2(x-2)^4
4.1) Determine the value of 'x' for which the sequence converges.
4.2) Determine the sum to infinity of the series if x = 2,5.
This is my attempted work:

2D Array problem - Java?
Hey Yahoo Community! :)
I have a problem getting this to work:
1 2 3 4 - (column)
A B2 D4 C3
B A2 A4 C2
C D2 D1 B1
D C4 B3 B4
^
l
(row)
Ok, this is how it goes, this is a 2D array with (RowColumn - eg. A1). I got to write a java program with a do..while or case (or any other suitable way to accomplish the task) to check each element(cell) and put the existing values in the correct element(cell). The program will stop once it has detected a null(empty) cell.
Thx a million people :

Just say you have a name: "Jeremy Clarkson" , how can I just extract "Jeremy" out of that and save it in a variable?
This is what I've done: String[]FirstName = Name.split(" ");
Thx! (I'm using Java), I have split it, but now how do i store these 2 words in 2 different variables
