  • Can water reduce acidity in juice?

My sister is a Type 1 diabetic and as such can only eat and drink certain things. When her blood sugar is low her doctors advise her to drink something milk or juice to bring her sugar up quickly. My family always has a big carton of OJ in the fridge. OJ is a very good thing to drink when you have low blood sugar. The only problem is... she doesn't want to touch it. She says it's too acidic and it gives her sour stomach if she drinks too much of it. I tell her to add some water to it to reduce the acidity so she can drink it, but she tells me it doesn't work. I already know if your dilute half a glass of juice with water that the same amount of sugar will still be there in the glass the only difference is in the higher amount of liquid you have to drink as compared to before. To my knowledge, the more liquid there is to drink, the slower sugar is allowed to be absorbed by the body. This helps to prevent ultra-high sugar spikes, which are dangerous for any diabetic person. Before, I used to believe that diluting juice with water actually REDUCES the amount of sugar in a particular glass of water. My sister believes that you can't reduce acid in juice with water just like you can't reduce the amount of sugar in a glass of juice with water. Although I know it's true for sugar, for some reason, I don't believe this applicable to acid/acidity. So here is my question. Can water actually reduce the acidity in juice?

  • URGENT! Does anyone know of any homeless shelters in Bronx, NYC?

Me, my mother and sister are going to be homeless very VERY soon. Our landlord has decided to kick us out before our lease is schedule to end. She wants us out by the 30th of April. It's already the 24th and I don't know what the hell we are going to do. I just need to find a place to go quickly before we end up out on the streets! My sister has friends who said that she could stay with them. I also have a friend to stay with if push comes to shove. The main problem is my mother. She doesn't have anywhere to go unlike me and my sister. I've asked family and they said they couldn't take my mother in. My mother is going to ask more people if she could stay with them but I really don't think that anyone will say yes.

We are not in a financial position to rent any apartments. My mom has a job; she works at Macy's but she doesn't meet most income and credit requirements. Her annual income is in the 22,000's and her credit SUCKS! Most landlords want an annual income in the 30- 35,000's at least and a FAIR credit score. At first I thought that I could rent out an apartment/studio in my name but that idea was quickly shot down. I don't have a credit card to build up a credit history and I can't qualify for one unless I have a steady job (which I certainly do not have). So renting out a decent apartment is out of the question.

So it seems our only option is a shelter right now. Does anyone know of any good shelters in the bronx area that we can go to? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do in my current situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

  • HELP PLEASE! Question about serious vaginal issues...?

I'm starting to freak out. I feel embarassed to even talk about it... but I need help to figure out what's happening to me. For the sake of professionalism (and staving off my embrassment), I'm going to use medical terminology to explain what's happening to me. All I ask is that the people who respond to this ?'ion be respectful and tactfully honest in their answers.

Okay here's the whole situation. I'm 20 yrs old. I noticed a small round bump on my perineum (the space between the vagina and anus) as I was cleaning myself after using the bathroom. I havent checked to see what it looks like, but from what I felt I know it's smaller than the size of a pea. I barely feel any pain from it unless I put pressure on it or wiggle it slightly. Even when I do that, I don't feel much discomfort. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the pain at a 1 or 2.

This isn't the first time it has happened though. It's happen twice before. I was 17 the first time it happened and the bump (a singular bump) was located on my pubic mound instead. It was more diagonal in shape and was raised. I thought it was a mosquito bite or something to that effect so I didn't tell my mom about it. It grew a bit, then shrank and went away in about 2 or so weeks. I didn't think much about it after that until I noticed it again on April or May of 09' (20 yrs old). This bump (which was round this time) was located in the crease between my inner and outer labia. It grew and shrank at around the same rate as the first incident. (also a singular bump)

I've done research on various vaginal diseases and honestly I don't know what to think. I've ruled out STD's. I haven't been sexually active for two years. I've only had sex twice in my life when I was 18 yrs old. I have a feeling that I've probably had more of these bump, lump things or whatever you wanna call 'em between 17-20 yr old time period but I just didn't notice them. I honestly wouldn't of known I had this bump if I didn't disturb it when I was using the bathroom. Who knows how many of these things I've had since I noticed them (or how many I probably had before I noticed the first incident). I didn't go to a GYN for the 2nd incident because I was kicked off my health insurance and I had no source of income to pay for a visit. I still don't have health insurance and my job doesn't pay me enough for daily living let alone a doctor's visit. I don't care anymore... I'll just go into debt do the GYN visit anyway 'cause i need to know what the hell is wrong with me.

Sorry, I didn't mean to write a novel. For anyone who actually read this far, Thank you. Any theories or ideas would be HIGHLY appreciated.

  • Are Compression Pantyhose good for Diabetics?

I wanna know if compression pantyhose are any good for someone with Type 1 Diabetes. I'm looking into this for my younger sister. Here's a little medical history.

My sister is 16 yrs old now and has had Type 1 Diabetes since she was 3 yrs old. As she got older she started to have issues with her body regulating its temperature. Her doctors said that poor blood circulation was to blame. Now at 16, my sister is saying that her toes are starting to become numb. There would be periods of time where she would not be able to feel her toes at all. She can still wiggle them but she would complain about them feeling numb and not being able to feel the sensation of wiggling her toes. I believe this problem is also due to her circulation issues.

I heard about compression pantyhose how they improve blood circulation. So here are my questions:

~ Does compression hosiery actually improve circulation in your legs and feet?

~ Are compression pantyhose SAFE for Type 1 Diabetics?

~If so, Where can I buy some in New York City?

  • How do I make my hair healthy again?

Right now, my hair is a sight to behold. I have dandruff up the yin yang and my hair is basically dry. There is some moisture and health at the top, but from the chin downward, the ends are completely frizzy. They're as coarse as straw. Before all this, my hair was long enough to reach the middle of my back. At that time though, half of my hair was also dead. So I chopped off approx 3 inches in an act of desperation. Now my hair is about 2 inches from my shoulders.

Ugh... the dead hair is getting worse and I'm at my wits end. I DON'T want to chop off my hair again due to it all being dead. I'm strapped for cash, so frequent beauty salon visits are out the question. I'm a Caribbean & Asian Indian (NOT Native American Indian) mix, so my hair has an interesting texture. I inherited more of the Caribbean texture, so my hair is naturally semi- coarse. Any NON-EXPENSIVE suggestions for my hair would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Supple Game Help?

I downloaded the free trial version from Yahoo Games. Once the free trial was done I was given 5 mins to play it again. This is what I love about Yahoo Games! Anyway... Due to the fact I only have 5 mins everytime I open up the game, I've had to to save alot. It's a tedious process, but the game is SOOOO worth it!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!! I saved my game and I am stuck at Tuesday 4:45. I am five points away from hitting the green line. I’ve tried everything I’ve been allowed to do, which are: Ask Out to Bar, Insult, Praise Margot and Share Work Info. I usually try to click on either on of these buttons before Hugh turns to me. No matter what combination of things I try to do, it doesn’t get me to the green line ( just very near to it).

I've won the 1st, 3rd, 4th stars. I find it odd, but it's soo close to the 5:00 deadline yet neither me or Hugh has wone the last star. As of now, Hugh has 61% of the star and I have 38%.

    I”M STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • How do you get back motivation?

I've lost my motivation. It's like I no longer have the will to do ANYTHING!!!! I haven't accomplished many of the goals I set out for myself. Stuff like: becoming financially stable enough to move into my own apartment, lose weight in my mid section, get a great paying job... things like that.

This no-motivation streak comes right down to the little things too. Things like going to the post office, going into Manhattan, getting my hair washed, running simple errands.... I know that once I get these things through with I'll be a happier person. But for some reason I just can't seem to find the energy or interest to do them.

How can I get back what I lost? I've tried all sorts of stuff like lists, re-prioritizing, plans... Nothing seems to work. I just don't feel like doing anything. I'd rather stay home and sleep than getting up and going to the store to buy food when I'm hungry.

I don't know what to do. this sucks big time!!!! does someone have any suggestions?

  • How would I go about losing fat in my midsection?

I'm an 18 yr old female and I have some very unwanted fat around my stomach. It's not alot, but I do want to get rid of it by summer. This is a little senario of my problem, so you can get a better idea of it. You see, when I put on a form-fitting shirt my stomach bulges out and puffs out the shirt, making it look very unattractive. I almost always have to suck in my stomach so it doesn't show through. Can anyone recommed a good work out plan that I can use to help me get rid of this by summer so I can feel confident about wearing a form-fitting shirt, or even a two-piece bathing suit?
