What is the first birthday present you will give?
I have an assignment for philosophy, which consists of two questions. The second question is:
Write a list of instructions for determining the first birthday gift given by someone in a given year.
Apply your method to Jonathon Swift, in the year 1697.
If there is a definite answer, does anyone know what it is?
If not, any ideas? What is the first birthday gift you would give to someone in a given year?
2 AnswersPhilosophy8 years agoQur'an, Arabic, and Grammar help?
Why does it in the Qur'an say:
"إِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا" - Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer. (Qur'an 4:1)
"إِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا" - Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise. (Qur'an 4:11)
"يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًا" - They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. (Qur'an 76:7)
(All translation from Sahih International)
Why in each these verses "كَانَ" is used and translated to "is" instead of "was"?
For example in Qur'an Chapter 4 Verse 1:
"إِنَّ" - Surely/Indeed
"اللهَ" - Allah
"كَانَ" - Translated as "is" but means was (it is a past tense verb which you cannot picture called "فعل ماض ناقص" in Arabic)
"عَلَيْكُمْ" - Over you (plural male+female)
"رَقِيباً" - An observers/watcher
Yes we cannot use was for Allah for he is an Observer over us and always will be but isn't there a reason Allah used "كَانَ" (was) instead of "يَكُونَ" (is)?

At the end I never even went back to the Masjid.

10 AnswersRamadan10 years agoQuran Miracles, Abu Bakr, and Miraj (For Muslims)?
Hazrat Abu Bakr Unfalteringly Affirms our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) account
Among the Meccan community, there were those whose hearts had warmed up to Islam; however, they were puzzled when they heard about the Miraj. Upon hearing this news, they immediately ran to Hazrat Abu Bakr and said, “O Abu Bakr! Are you aware of the news regarding your friend? He says that last night he went to the Baytu’l Maqdis, prayed there and returned to Mecca.” Hazrat Abu Bakr asked, “Did you hear this from him?” To which they replied, “Yes, we directly heard it from him.” Hazrat Abu Bakr responded, “By Allah, if he said this then it is undoubtedly true. Do not be at all surprised by this!” Afterwards, he got up and went straight to our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and asked him, “O Allah’s Apostle! Did you tell the community that you went to the Baytu’l Maqdis last night?” When our Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied “yes,” Hazrat Abu Bakr said “You speak the truth, I testify to you being Allah’s Apostle.” Upon this, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) responded, “O Abu Bakr, you are Siddiq [The Truthful] in any case.”
From that day forward, Hazrat Abu Bakr was referred to as “Siddiq.” Siddiq means being undoubtedly and completely truthful.
Ibn Hisham, Sirah: 2/40; İbn Sa'd, Tabaqat: 3/170
What scientific, mathematical or any other proof Abu Bakr (ra) asked for? He affirmed that the Prophet (SAW) said it, and that was all that was needed.
"And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees - of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe."
Qur'an 6:99, Sahih International.
I know we all cannot be like Abu Bakr (ra), but we have to follow his example. My point is we do not need these so called "Miracles", just read the Qur'an understand its meaning and read the history of Islam and that should be all that is needed.

Do you accept Hadith?
Why is it you only post Hadith which raise Ali (ra) status, but not Abu Bakr, Umar, or Uthmaan (ra)?
What are your thoughts on Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthmaan (ra)?

I have 2:
1.
"...until Abu Bakr arrived and gave his famous address: "O People! If anyone among you worshipped Muhammad, let him know that Muhammad is dead. But those who worshipped Allâh, let them know that He lives and will never die..."
2.
"(Prophet saw) replied (to his uncle): "O my uncle! by God if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left on condition that I abandon this course, until God has made me victorious, or I perish therein, I would not abandon it.""
