1 AnswerLondon9 years agodo you think you can get used to loneliness?
if someone is removed from family, friends or a partner and is effected by it, do you think that person can overcome it in time and become like self sufficient, even if they dont get it back. so they dont need anyone anymore they can survive by themselves or do you think they will always crave that attention until they get it back.
i heard about this research they did on baby monkeys that were removed from their mothers, they were provided with the food and water they needed to survive but they died of loneliness so to speak, but do you think a human can overcome this need if they get used to being on their own?
4 AnswersPsychology9 years agoneed some advice from other chef, writing a menu and not sure how it works?
im a chef writing a menu, its just a little thing im doing for fun but i wana make it properly like how i would do it if i was actually opening a restraunt. i want to do it in the future but just putting some ideas together.
My dream restraunt is a fairly small place, maybe 30-40 seater breakfast restraunt in the city, with a british menu my questions are;
1: how do you calculate how many dishes to put on the menu? (i understand that if there is too many and too much prep its not possible, i got a bit carried away with my menu and ended up designing 24 recipes and i think i need to reduce this)
2: How do you cost a menu? specifically how do you know when to limit expensive ingredients, for example using smoked salmon and avocado is going to put my costs up loads, every dish has its pricey ingredient, do you take this off the menu altogether or replace it or what.
any advise whatsoever would be really nice, thanks.
2 AnswersFood Service9 years agowould working at a butchers for a little while help with my career as a chef?
approaching the year mark at the restaurant i am working at, handed in my notice and am looking for the next step in my career as a chef, i am very ambitious and i want my next job to give me something different, i wana learn new things. the place i am currently working at is very high end, it would definitley be a step down but would working in a butchers for a while help me with a career in cheffing or would it be a waste of time, should i just find the next job in a restaurant? it would really interest me, i think id really like it and it would be good for me to have a change of pace for a little while and have a little break from the kitchen BUT i wouldnt want to do it if it wont help my career as much as working in the kitchen. what do you think?

5 AnswersLondon9 years agoim so unhappy and i dont know what to do?
a while ago it was like bad moods would come and go and id feel fine a few days later, i would see my friends, go out, and generally forget the feelings i had before.
i moved out on my own to London september last year for this job as a chef in a fancy restraunt,i had been workng there since june but needed to live closer. i work long hours so i dont sleep as much, never exercise anymore, have a terrible diet, things were manageable up until recently.
now this feeling it is constant and has been for the past three months, i wake up in the morning, feel fine for 5 minutes then remember how **** everything is and spend every waking minute of that day thinking about it or trying not to think about it.
im drinking a lot on my own aswell when im not working because i get bored.
i rarely see my friends anymore and i think could be part responsible because i get very lonely.
i went to a doctor last year about how i would get these feelings but then they would go, but said i was fine.
i know i shouldnt feel like this, there must be something i can do about it. does anyone know if this is depression or stress? have you ever felt like this and what did you do?

5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks10 years agoSaw a comedian i recognized today at the restraunt where i work, who was she?

2 AnswersCelebrities10 years agoIf you were a landlord, would you let to a 17 year old female?
i have been searching for flat/house shares for over two months now, i have been at the computer everyday, sending out messages to landlords advertising their rooms and have received barely any replies aside from fakes trying to scam me, or ones from which are unsuitable. i have tried to contact somewhere around 40 different landlords and no replies.
and although i am well aware it is notoriously difficult to find properties in central london, it cant be this hard????
My budget is very reasonable; £500 pcm, which is considerably more than what most 17 year olds or students can afford, my profiles are well informed and say lots about me; where im from what i do, what one can expect living with me, i have a respectable job as a chef in oxford circus, im independent and im not even the tiniest bit fussy about my requirements im that desperate to find somewhere.
have a look at one of my profiles and see for yourself http://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/flatmate_deta...
(you might not be able to access the page if you dot have an account im not sure)
what is going on??? do you think its my age that puts them off? How long did it take you to find a house share? What could i do to improve my chances of finding a place?
13 AnswersRenting & Real Estate10 years agoIm not out yet, how should i answer sexual orientation on my housing form?
i will be coming out in the near future when ive left my bf (to save him embarrassment) i am looking for a house share and on the form it asks my sexual orientation, it wont let me leave it blank, i want to answer truthfully however i really feel its not a good idea to have my potential housemates and landlord know first and when i havent even considered how im going to tell collegues and friends. BUT if i answer straight then when i do come out they will ask why i didnt say in the first place because they may not have wanted to let to me yknow
5 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender10 years agoWhat do you call a sim card that allows to terminate your phone contract early without the cancellation fee?
My boyfriend mentioned it the other day, apparently there is a special sim card you can ask for when starting a new phone contract that allows you to cancel it early if you want, without the cancelation fee but you have to pay a bit extra each month for the privilage. I wanted to check if you can actually get this and what its called before i start a contract because that would be useful.
2 AnswersLand Phones10 years agoIs it worth while for me learning Afrikaans?
hi, over the past year i have had a great interest in learning Afrikaans, simply because its my favorite foreign language, i am interested in their culture and i think i can do it. I have tried learning French and German, but i simply did not have a passion for it, possibly because of the school environment i was in or i just didn't like it. In a way this puts me off a little and makes me consider will i end up feeling the same about this language and give up?
Over the next few months i will have a lot of time on my hands because i pulled out of A levels to do a catering course at college in september, and i don't have a really demanding and time consuming job, this feels like a constructive and rewarding way of making use of that time.
My question is will it be worth making the effort? How did you personally find learning the language? In comparison to learning other languages, like French, was it easier or funner etc? Is it regarded as 'useful' language to have, like will it have much use for me aside from when i visit South Africa? Will this open up new opportunities for me in life? Should i just do it because i feel like it?
2 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoMy boyfriends brother is stealing from me, what should i do?
live with my boyfriends family, out of the 6 of us (me, mum, dad, keiran (15), daryl (21), david (18)) only me, mum and dad work, i am the only one that pays for my own cigarettes, the dad buys tobacco for the boys, i buy straights.
A few weeks ago daryl jokingly said when he was drunk that sometimes he would nick a *** out my purse when i wasnt looking, i thought he was joking, the other night he suggested to a friend that if he wanted a cigarette he should look in my bag. At this point i decided to keep count of how many i had, before i went to bed i counted them twice, the next morning one is missing. For the past 5 or so months i have been getting through a lot more cigarettes than usual, i thought nothing of it just thought i was smoking more but now i know he has been stealing form me, the cost to me has been imense and i thought it was my fault until this morning, i told my boyfriend and his mum,
- their solution, buy him another packet of tobacco, so he wont feel the need to steal mine, they suggested i hide my cigarettes under my pillow so they are safe.
Does this seem reasonable to you?
why should i have to hide my things from family so they don't get stolen? Isnt it wrong that he is being rewarded for what he has done? and at his age for gods sake !
Should i just leave it and take better care of where i leave my cigarettes? or speak up? ive wanted to move out for a while because of their familys ways, mum has borrowed money and not payed me back, keiran will take food that he knows does not belong to him,etc and this just gives me better reason to want to leave, what would you do?
(before you answer this, if you are going to break the news to me that smoking is very bad for you, i have already been told, yes i was so surprised, i only heard the other day, why didn't someone tell me before? they really need to let more people know about this)
5 AnswersFamily1 decade agodid i have a premonition of the earthquake in japan?
you are probably not going to believe me but i just want to say i'm not looking for attention, i would just like to hear if anyone has a logical explanation to this, scientific or spiritual.
the night before the earthquake in japan, i had a horrible dream that i was in the middle of city while there was an earthquake and buildings where crashing down around me and trains and cars seemed to be rolling over, sliding about and crashing, it felt so real like i was actually there and could feel the ground shaking, i was terrified. At another point in my dream (although it may not seem as significant) i was pulled by this strong force into a dark muddy river and all my belongings where scattered everywhere and i had to gather them.
I have been known to have very vivid dreams about really random stuff very frequently, but this one felt really strange and rather upset me after i woke up. At the time i was also suffering from a bad cold, so you could say that could have effected my hormones and mixed emotions.
i'm kind of freaked out about this because i'm an atheist, and am tempted to just believe this is a coincidence but it feels like too much of a coincidence. My theory is; you know birds and animals freak out when something bad is going to happen like how cows went to higher ground just before the tsunami happened a few years ago. well maybe humans have a very mild form of this.
can anyone share an insight into what this may have been?
