f(x) = ( x^2 - a^2 ) / (x - a) when x is not equal to a

f(x) = 2 when x = a

the answer is apparently a = 1, because (a + x) = 2 and x = a, so 2a = 2 and and = 1. i follow, but i dont see why (a + x) should equal 2.

I need a synonym for laughing darkly or a dark chuckle...the background of the scene I'm writing is basically that when the husband comes home and thinks the wife is cheating on him (she's not really, but just talking to a close brotherly friend), but the husband thinks they are having an affair and when she denies it and tries to explain, he laughs darkly. Is there some type of word to describe the laugh I'm getting across? Thanks!

The boy is almost fifteen, and he has been dating the girl for over two years, and I recently let them get together at our house when nobody was home, although there were some other friends most of the time. I KNOW they would not do anything inappropriate. Anyway, his profile picture on facebook is of them kissing, and I'm not totally sure if I'm comfortable with it...is it wrong to have a picture like that on facebook for everyone to see? Almost everyone knows they are dating. Advice please?

we are both15 and we've been dating for over two years (i know, insanely long time). She's had this really messed up family life, i really dont know the story, but her family doesnt love her and all these effects have sprung up from them like insecurity and that she cant make decisions easily because she thinks nobody cares. she still (after TWO years) wont tell me these secrets about her family and young life that CAUSE these insecurities and side effects, and its really been getting to me lately. we've had small fights over the issue and she says that she trusts me, but the only reason she wont tell me is because i tell one of my really close friends (goes to a different school, doesnt start gossip, really nice person) all this stuff to see what i should do, and to get feedback and to talk it out, you know? anyway, she wont tell me anything as long as i tell my friend, even though i cant see any reason why it should matter! the friend isnt telling! anyway, i can't help her work through her problems unless she tells me and she refuses to tell me...suggestions?

me and my neighbor like right next to eachother and we've known eachother for 6 years. he is 12 and i am 14. we hang out a lot, but he is very videogame and computer obsessive. well not quite obbsessive, but he plays a LOT on it. i dont really care for the games he plays or playing on the computer or videogames at all. what should i do?
