  • Quit/ Call off/ what is this? What should I do?

I work two part time jobs and both are on a week by week schedule so occasionally they overlap. I recently obtained both of these jobs so I don't know my way around the working world quite yet.

I'm scheduled to work at both places tomorrow. I wasn't expecting it.

Chain store told me that there was nothing they could do. They wouldn't rearrange the schedule, or ask if someone else to cover the overlapping time period (length of 1 hr). They wouldn't give me contact information so I could make arrangements so the shift would be covered. I'm new there, so I don't have any contacts myself. They told me to "figure it out".

Meanwhile, the other job, a small business, desperately needs needs workers for tomorrow and there's no one else to ask.

Anyway, I don't know what to do.

I kind of want to quit Chain store because I'm overwhelmed with juggling two jobs anyway, and at least the small business is making steps to get me a conflict free schedule. Chain store is also a farther commute, knows I have another job that I do usually during this time, and doesn't care. When there is a scheduling conflict, they expect to be accommodated even though they have dozens of other workers.

To summarize, there is a shift at a chain store that I will NOT be going to tomorrow, I have to be at my first job. Should I call off and risk being fired (they know I'm not sick)? No call no show? Quit and not have 2 weeks notice?

Eventually I want to quit. Advice? I'm in over my head.

  • Where to buy a large picnic blanket?

I need a large picnic blanket suitable for 10+ people to sit upon during tennis matches. It doesn't matter if the shape is square or highly rectangular. Since this is going to be placed upon wet grass it is a necessity that it has the "water resistant bottom". I would prefer that both sides were made of the water-resistant fabric, but after doing some research it doesn't seem plausible.

I want something a bit softer than just a tarp, the ground can be very uncomfortable. Target used to sell some good ones, but they were small and aren't sold there anymore.

I can always buy two and sew them together. However, you should assume that I am a very dismal sewer and would be incapable of making my own blanket. My budget is $40.

As for colors, I would prefer red, yellow, black, or grey since these are our school colors, but I suppose I can always cover it with something prettier. Price is the number one priority.

    Thank you for your time.
