the story is in the video description

I would like to use mine and my horse's journey to raise awareness about the talent that is lost through horse slaughter each year as he (George) was saved in 2006. I would like contact details of charities, magazines, petitions, etc. preferably email addresses so that I can send the URL. Thankyou for taking time to read this and watch the video - I really appreciate it.

  • How much is my horse worth?

My Mum keeps asking me and I don't know how much. We aren't EVER going to sell him, but for some reason my Mum keeps asking me. He is a 14.2hh, 9 year old, bay, Irish Sports Pony gelding. I have jumped him up to BSJA level and he has won £56 notional and £93 actual winnings. He has schooled cross country up to 3'7'' and competed up to 3'3'' and always clear XC and SJ. He has been schooled very well and has proved very trainable and does leg yields, half passes, turns on the forehand, pirouettes, changes, extension, collection and we are working on his outline and refining what he can already do.

this is a video of him:

*he is NOT for sale and NEVER will be*

  • Pushy parents in the collecting ring...?

please don't say 'that's not a question' because i know it's not and i don't know how to put this. Basically, I've been trying to give my very novice pony some good experience this winter, but there are some really inconsiderate parents out there who seem to think it's ok to build fences at a slant, put the placing pole on the wrong side, walk in front of the fence when you are about a stride away from the fence and 'hog' the fence for ages. Today (although it has happened before), there was a man who stayed by the fence all through the class, and even though his daughter had been eliminated/retired on all of her ponies, he insisted on building fences of 1.25m (the class was 1m) in height with a placing pole at a slant on the other side, i was approaching the fence, as i had 2 people to jump before me and no time to do otherwise, my pony caught the pole between his legs (due to not being able to judge his striding properly) and by a stroke of luck sorted himself out. He tripped on the other side, but i kept his head up (pure chance) and gave him a pat (the man then shouted at me for praising my pony when he had knocked the jump down). Although his daughter had been eliminated on all her rides, he insisted that she kept jumping non stop in the ring. I have to ask:

What should happen to these parents?

Why do people not know about how misjudging striding is normally because of badly built fences and in this case i was lucky not to have a rotational fall?

    Why can't parents be considerate?

  • Vegans - what is YOUR view on horse riding?

So I was just reading the postings on veggieforums and it was the is horse riding cruel debate. Someone, calling himself AutomaticMan, obviously knew nothing regarding equines and yet he was labeling it as abuse. On a personal level, I rescued my pony and have had to work very hard to gain his trust. It is nowhere near possible to set a horse free as they would inevetably die so I had to persevere and a year into riding him, the perseverance has paid off and he is jumping better than he would have done at the slaughter house! Some people seem to have no ideo as to what they are talking about and this was an obvious example. Why can't people be civilized enough to at least look into a subject before shooting down everybody?

  • Do you think I could loan this horse?

I keep my pony on a livery yard and I am also looking for a horse to loan. I have found out that someone from the neighbouring yard is loaning our their 16.2hh horse, who is 9. I have seen this horse and I did like him but there is a rule on their part of the yard which only allows you to be on the premisies if you are over 18. I am friends with one of the liveries who is 14 and she is up there alone all the time. The owners know me very well and they know how experienced I am. My Mum also rides and the yard is only a few metres from our yard, which I am now allowed on (thanks to the agreement!) I know the owners so I could possibly negotiate this. Would you recommend that I loan this horse?

  • What should I do about exercising my pony through the winter?

I stable my B.S.J.A pony at a livery yard within walking distance of my home and I do enjoy my time there. Recently, however, I am facing problems when I go to competitions as my pony is not having time at home to be hacked out or schooled. It is fine if the show is on a Sunday, but most of the time, the shows are on Saturdays so my pony acts up throughout. He has only been going badly since after half term, but my Mum works 4 evenings a week and there is a policy at the livery yard saying that no children under the age of 14 may be at the yard without an adult. I am 13 and I have more experience than most of the adults and I find it unfair that I should have to wait 7 months before i will be able to be up there alone, but I understand that this is due to health and safety (which pointlessly and relentlessly and thoughtlessly ruins EVERYTHING) and must be adhered to. The livery yard is unregistered and is basically where family and friends may keep their horses, and i really don't understand why I have to fit into a box. It disgusts me! I really don't know what I can do about exercising my pony. The rule is pointless as there is only one person who I have to ask before I can do anything and she knows less about horses than I do! I passed my C test recently and the only reason why I have not taken C+ is because I am too young, I am wondering if I could possibly ask if I could be there alone, provided my Mum gives permission (which she has already done, countless times) due to the fact that I have passed?

  • Would you recommend sending my pony's story to the ILPH?

My pony was, almost two years ago, bought from an auction in heartbreaking condition by friends of my mothers. He was going to be sold for meat but in the two years following the auction he was first rehabilitated and taught the basics by my Mum's friends. In July of last year my Mum bought him and two months later, he was my own.

Here are two videos of what has happened since:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qAozcoacMxQ

    and

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aim7hq7D4VI

the reason why i am asking is because i think that it could raise awareness for the "Make A Noise" campaign. The goal, I have heard, is 100,000 signatures but the ILPH needs more and potentially moving story may raise awareness. I believe that together me and Georgie could jump European tracks together so you never know, maybe he'll be a rescue made champion in couple of years.

Can you tell me as to whether or not it would be a good idea to contact World Horse Welfare (formerly the International League for the Protection of Horses - the ILPH)

  • The worst recession since 1937 - could this be key in sparking off a war?

I was watching the news on channel four regarding the global recession. It is starting to make me wonder as to whether there will be WW III partially due to the recession. I know that WW II was sparked off by other key factors. But it is clear that this economic crisis is causing great tension between countries. At the moment this is not enough tension to create a war, but in time I don't know - could it? It's not impossible, but is there a chance that it will happen in my lifetime (I'm 13 which is why I'm suggesting such an unbelievable prospect) ?

  • Are BSJA ponies upgraded when their actual winnings are over the limit for the grade or is it notional wins?

I read in horse and hound in the ponies for sale - there's a pony for sales with actual winnings of over £1000 but with a notional total of £210. I'm wondering as to whether a pony is upgraded regarding notional graded winnings or actual winnings, can anyone answer?

  • Do you think that people would ask me to ride horses for them (read fully)?

I am an affiliated rider and I have 10 years experience as a 13 year old. Currently I am producing and re-schooling two ponies. One of these is my own on whom I qualified for the trailblazers national 2008 finals. As a pony club member, I can turn out horses well and i look after them. If someone was to approach I would not expect to be paid. I just want to know if you would accept help from someone like me?

I have only started BSJA recently and I am starting small (up to newcomers level). Please give me an answer.

  • i know this may be a waste of 5 points but i think it's worth it....?

i just wanted people who have answered questions for me without being at all hypocritical or insulting me. thank you so much! in april, we won the show jumping national qualifier, came third in the cross country (as team members) and came second and fifth in the team selection. i am proving to be more of a rider than some (including myself and my family) might have anticipated, and part of it is down to you guys. without some of your help, i doubt that we would have had such a fantastic april (may wasn't so good). june is looking like a good month too, and we are ranked 3rd in the show jumping points system in our riding club (result!)! i have also been given a new horse (not my own) to ride in competitions and so far it's improvement after improvement :). i have been selected for the next show jumping qualifiers with both and i am starting bsja with georgie - he's doing brilliantly and has only been competing for 8 months. thank you so much to you all on yahoo answers :)

  • how can i get her to call the vet?

someone at the yard where my ponies are stabled went on a hack with her new horse yesterday. she had to cut it short because the girl who was out with her noticed that the horse (Poppy) was lame. She didn't even call the vet and i can tell that Poppy is lame in walk. but she isn't calling the vet. i think it may be because either 1) she thinks it won't do much harm (she thinks that she knows it all because her mum used to be a national show jumper) or 2) because she didn't get Poppy vetted. also, i am wondering how to fond out whether or not Poppy has been stolen, as Poppy was bought from a dealer and she didn't have a name. she was bought for a really low price, too, and she is impeccable in all ways. if anyone can answer both questions, i will be grateful.

  • am i out of ponies?

so i have noticed recently that i have getting a bit big on my two 14.2hh ponies, one of whom i am coming to the end of reschooling for someone, and the other who i have produced from nothing to a county champion. i am 165cm and weigh in at 98 pounds (43.75kg). i am worried that i will never achieve my ambition of riding at POYS because i will simply be too tall. if i can't ride ponies for the winter season at the very least, i will never do BSJA at all becuase it would cost me £99 to register as a junior associate and that is just too much if you think about it. i do have a video, and here is the link,

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mLS9_8ZDkNA

i understand that i am no ellen whitaker, but i am 12 years old so if you criticise you probably rode 10 times worse than i ever have done. constructing answering only! if you comment on my video i will be very happy :)

  • what is a volte?

i was reading through a dressage test and to do it i have to be able to ride a volte. i can ride lateral work (half passes, leg yields, shoulder ins and pirouettes) and i can adjust paces accordingly (collecting, extending, changing leg and changing diagonal) as well as being able to make transitions (walk to trot, trot to walk, trot to canter, canter to trot, walk to canter, canter to walk, halt to trot, trot to halt, etc etc). i am just wondering what on earth a volte is? i am only going to use the test for training as i am not planning to do dressage competitions i just want to be able to jump Georgie as well as possible.

  • i am hoping to pursue a career in show jumping..?

i have been riding for more than 10 years now and i own a pony who i produced from a novice rescue pony to a pony on the verge of qualifying for national finals in show jumping and cross country. i really want to start doing BSJA in the autumn with him as i am too busy in the summer and he needs to get used to competing a bit before we do BSJA and also we have shows every week throughout the summer. How would i affiliate George, are there any tests i have to take with him or do i simply send off the form? I have many years to make it before i do senior classes as i am only 12 at the moment but i really need to convince my parents that George and i can do it. i understand that working pupil positions are invaluable and i have been offered a place (after i turn 13 otherwise that would be illegal) at an eventing barn but my dad really wants me to go to university and i really want to work with horses. he is letting my brother be a website designer so why can't i pursue my dream?
