If I could explain one aspect about myself it would be my love for the "unknown". I've always been deeply intrigued about the mysteries of the Universe and what's possibly out there. My Life goal is to meet an extra terrestrial and have a one on one conversation about their culture and lifestyle. I'm a smart kid so my plan is to get into a high ranking position that will land me an opportunity as mentioned above.
Am I receiving signs or am I just getting random coincidences?
Okay recently I have been putting in a lot of thought about moving to North Dakota for the big oil boom that is happening right now. There is a lot of money to be made working on the oil rigs and I could use that to pay off almost all my student loans after this summer.
For the past month I've been receiving "signs" and I'm quite confused on whether it's just a coincidence or maybe something is trying to push me in this direction.
Sign #1: Quarterly video is sent out at my work where the CEO talks about how the company is doing. During this 30 min presentation, he has a computer in the background with an offshore Oil Rig platform as the desktop background.
Sign #2: I'm sitting in class called Engineering and Manufacturing processes. I never pay attention in this class ever, I just show up for the 5% of my grade for attendance while I do other hw. (I have an A in this class which exempted me from the final next week so no bashing on this) I finish my hw a little early and decide to see what the teacher is talking about. He starts talking about drill bits. Drill bits are the main component when it comes to drilling oil wells.
Sign #3: Randomly reading MMA forums about fighting, some dude says he as an old oil rig worker who beat up some kid wearing a tapout t-shirt at a bar.
Sign #4: Reading about the future prosperity of engineering, someone mentions oil & gas in a forum.
Random coincidences or signs trying to direct my path in life?
2 AnswersOther - Social Science7 years agoGetting depressed about dating/find someone ...?
I'm getting very depressed lately. I haven't had a girlfriend in 5 years and the last date I went on was over two years ago. I try and get to know girls through classes or mutual friends but none of them want to go on dates with me, let alone sleep with me. I even tried on tinder, okc, and pof but nothing ever comes from it. I might be able to get one number but they'll never wanna meet up or they just stop talking to me after awhile.
I workout and stay in shape and built some decent muscle, I also go to a college where hook-ups and ONS are suppose to be a regular thing yet I'm still a virgin. It probably doesn't help that I'm an engineering student and I have an average of 0-2 girls in a class. I try talking to them but they are obviously disinterested in me. I go to the bars and girls will usually avoid eye contact with me and If I do talk to them they are very short and unresponsive.
This sucks! I'm getting very depressed and am starting to hate women in general now. They have it so ******* easy being able to pick and choose who they want. It's driving me insane! My friends are pretty good with girls but that's because they are all at least 6'3 - 6'7, and height is a major factor in dating for women.
I'm considering using craiglist or an escort service to just lose my vcard. Please don't say "Oh it will get better" or "Focus on your career and girls will come later." That's horrible advice imho.
I'm a 6ft 21 year old. Sorry it ended up turning into a large rant.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating7 years agoSteering Wheel Shaking?
I noticed last night going to work that my steering wheel started to shake really badly. I figured it was snow build up behind my tires so I kicked it off. There wasn't a whole lot of snow built up and it wasn't even touching my tires. The shaking was still there though, but it only shakes when I'm going +50 mph. If I started to brake or accelerate at those speeds, the shaking stops. But If I put it on cruise control or just keep a steady speed the shaking is constant. I don't know if my wheel bearings are bad or if it's the transmission or maybe the suspension is broken. I did see some snow built up between the coils in the suspension but it shouldn't make a difference. This isn't the first winter I've driven with my car.
I have a 2009 pontiac g6 with 70k miles on it and the tires are maybe a year old.
Do you know what is wrong with my car?
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoI am in desperate need of advice right now...?
I am at a bit of a cross road in my life right now. I have 3 more semesters left of college in Mechanical Engineering. I really hate my school and still live at home. I have not had the college experience all my friends are having at other big ten schools. My campus is a complete **** hole to be honest. Our campus is so spread out over this town and it doesn't even feel like a real college. Granted our FB team is amazing! Went to the orange bowl last year, if you care to look up my school.
Anyways, I am really considering moving out of state to Wisconsin or Iowa. Those big ten schools are SUPER cheap for in state tuition. It's like paying for the community college I went to my first two years. I am 12k in debt right now from tuition. If I take this spring semester off. I could pay off the remaining loans I have and move out of state and work there for a year to save up money and qualify for instate. But I'm 21 years old and I would be 23 by the time I go back to school. I'm worried that the best years of my life have already passed me by, by not living in the dorms or have my own apartment or actually going to a real ******* college!
I am just unbelievably stressed out about school right now because I work graveyard shifts every day of the week and getting off work at 3am and then going to class by 10 am. With falling asleep by 4am on average and if I am lucky, I get to my morning classes on time(I have made it to one class in the morning the past two weeks). I am so stressed out that I am pretty sure I am depressed because I spend 3 or 4 days a week crying in my room. I can't tell my parents because I am not very close with them to begin with. (even though we live together) And I just am really hating school and life in general right now... I have a 3.2 GPA but I have a feeling it's going to drop if I don't get my act together soon! I hate my major and wish I would have done business instead. I love the stock market but I have no capital to invest with, even though I would probably make more money off that then any job I would find in the real world.
I am just frustrated confused, haven't had a girlfriend since I was 16 in high school or lost my virginity yet. The past two girls I've tried dating turned out to be lesbians. Only time I ever meet girls is at school (it's engineering so you know there is like two girls total in the whole building)(one is a lesbian :( ) or a party but those girls don't seem to even care to get to know me when I try to start a conversation. I am so lonely that I think this is my main reason for being depressed.
What I really want to do when I graduate is join the Marines as an Officer, hopefully intelligence specialist. But before I do that I really want to have a good college experience that leaves me with >20k in debt by the time I am done. I am smart individual but lazy in general. If I have a goal, I can be very driven to complete it though.
I'm so lost in my life right now and I really just want to take a breather from college, pay off my debt, and figure out what I want to do from there.
Every time I bring this up to my parents, the first thing they say to me is "okay you drop out and then what?" All pissed off at me for even bringing it up! I hate feeling like a failure, which is why I've stuck with my major for so long but I just can't do it anymore! I hate what I am being taught, Engineers are under appreciated and underpaid. The first thing people assume when I tell them I'm in engineering is "Oh he must be smart, and think about equations all day" and they stop talking to me. I'm like WTF?! (Someone actually told me this, a girl)
It's so depressing that it is starting to take a toll on me.
I apologize for the numerous run-ons and grammatical mistakes but I am just looking for some advice in general, maybe from someone who has been in my situation before?
Any input would be appreciated.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoSalary negotiations with multiple job offers? Any Advice?
I'm a Junior mechanical engineering student looking for an internship this summer. As of right now, I have had two offers from different companies in one day! While I feel honored to have the pick of which one I want, I am little skeptical about the place that I really want to work at. I'll call this company X and the other one company Y.
I interviewed with company X a couple months back for a summer internship position, where I was expecting to hear back from them within a week. I followed up with them after my interview and the manager told me he would consult with the owners before letting me know about the job offer. Well I never ended up hearing back from him, even after I tried calling to follow up and leaving a voicemail. I was a little upset only because this company is in the field that I want to work in (robotics). So I ended up applying for other internships, just so I wasn't putting all my eggs in one basket.
Well I interviewed with company Y recently, and they offered me an internship working for them that had a starting pay of $10/h but it mostly contains mundane tasks, such as scanning documents but it does have some engineering work involved. (Like smashing railcars together) I was thrilled about this job offer nonetheless.
I had company X call me this morning asking if I was still interested in a summer internship with them, while I told them I was. They told me that I would be working minimum wage for them and that I could take the weekend to think about it. If I had to choose between company X or Y, I would go with X because the training that I would get is more hands on and it's more centered on the work that I want to be doing when I graduate. But minimum wage is less than what I'm making right now working as a cook in a restaurant. AND when I first interviewed with them, X told me that they could probably pay me a little more than what I was making at my current job which was $9.25/h.
My question to you is, should I try and negotiate with company X to see if they will match company Y's $10/h offer? Or am I stepping out of line by doing this and making myself look bad by trying to negotiate an intern position?
I don't care about money but I do not want to be low balled because I have bills to pay too!

(Side note) Company X is relatively small but they are expanding, and they usually don't take internships. It's mostly full time jobs, but they offered me a summer position.
One last note, I have a potential third offer pending over the weekend that has a $13/h internship, but I don't really care to work there because it's more than an hour away.

2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoHomebuilt Computer Problem, Help please?
This is my first PC build and I have had numerous problems since I had all the parts shipped to me.
Before I explain the situation here's my set up.
Corsair TX650 (PSU)
Asus P8Z77 v-Pro (Mobo)
G.Skill Ripsaw DDR3 (2x8GB)
EVGA something (Graphics card, it's not the problem)
Hyper 212 plus Evo (CPU Fan)
Intel i5 3570K (CPU)
Asus Optical Drive
1 TB Hard Drive
Yesterday, I finally got a replacement motherboard for the one I originally bought from NewEgg after waiting nearly 2 weeks since I sent it in and 3 weeks since I bought all the parts.
After finally getting my whole system together and trying to POST for the first time yesterday (which it did because I got into BIOS), I get a hardware malfunction beep from my mobo. I figured this was fine since BIOS recognized everything that was plugged in except for my front fan on the case (stock P.O.S) but I did get a CPU Fan Error. That error was because my CPU fan was spinning around 500 RPMs and the standard low was 600. So I changed that in my BIOS settings, and I haven't installed an OS yet. So I was thinking that maybe once I can put my computer under a load, the fan will increase in RPM's. No problem if it is because I have an extra fan fresh out of the box that I haven't even touched yet, that I could replace it with if it ends up not working properly.
The real problem started today when I got back from class. I go to try another POST and now the damn thing is telling me that I have a memory problem (1 continuous beep, then 3 short beeps repeated). Yesterday I only had one beep, which tells me that memory was detected, even the BIOS recognized all 16GBs. I tried the MemOk Button, with both rams in, one ram in at a time, and nothing is working! I am getting so sick and tired of bad luck coming my way all the time with this stupid ****. Nothing ever seems to go right for me.
I Know for a fact that all the parts are compatible with the Mobo, and PSU should be good, considering it powers my CPU fan and Mobo. CPU is good because i installed it correctly and haven't touched it since yesterday, which was my first my successful POST.
I don't understand, why is this happening? The memory should be good right? Since it worked yesterday...
1 AnswerSecurity8 years agoFirst time options trader waiting for the QE3? (Right move?)?
I understand what the QE3 is but I don't understand when the money will be dumped into the system?
Will it be spread out over a course of several months or do they just unload it all on the same day? I plan on buying call options for gold since the Fed insists on lowering the value of the dollar. And I was contemplating on whether or not to buy put options for the NASDAQ or S&P 500 Indexs since I'm almost postive the stock market will go way down when the Fed releases their statement about the QE3.
Any thoughts about my questions or assumptions?
1 AnswerInvesting10 years agoAm I eating healthy enough?
This is my daily routine almost every day. I wake up around 10ish and don't eat something till around 12:30 which is a bowl of rice crispies (I drink all the milk 'whole milk') then later in the after noon I eat a turkey, american cheese, lettuce, mayo, on wheat bread. I constantly drink tampico, orange juice, water, or rootbear/coke. I eat a couple bananas a day and I throw in an orange now and then. And then maybe another bowl of rice crispies again depending on how hungry I am.
If I'm out with friends Ioccasionallyy eat a mcdouble or two. Also if I run out of sandwiches or cereal I eat some chickennoodlel soup or ramens or make pb & j sandwiches.
This has been my diet for the past year with other foods thrown in such as pizza or home made meals durring family events. I feel like this isn't very healthy because I'm constantly tired all the time even with 9+ hours of sleep, I have random muscle spasms (not violent or out of control ones). I have been doing taekwondo for the past few weeks 4 times a week at 50 mins.
I'm 19, 150 lbs and 6 foot even. Is this a healthy lifestyle? I feel like I don't eat enough but I don't gain or lose weight so maybe it's fine?
5 AnswersDiet & Fitness10 years agoI really like this girl and I don't know what to do? Please help?
Okay for some background information, we both work at the same restaurant. She's 20 and I'm 19. We both go to the same college but were off right now since it's summer.
I've like this girl since last winter and I have tried to hang out with her on several occasions. First time I tried we were suppose to go snowboarding over winter break together but I broke my shoulder the first day of break (while snowboarding ironically). So I had to cancel plans then and I tried again a few months later, through texting. I remember when we were texting she at first was taking like 10 mins to respond back and then it started to take her longer to text back so I just immediately popped the question of hanging out with her on Friday ... it took her six hours to text back saying she was going to be busy cause she had to work, which she did because i Had to work that night as well and saw her. I think I got a little aggravated and ignored her at work for like a couple weeks. I mean I understand that she was busy but six hours??? Really? She couldn't text me back sooner than that?
Bottom line is I think this girl is absolutely gorgeous, she's single, and there is just something about her that I can't quite put my finger on. I really want to take this girl out to lunch or something some day and try to express some interest in her but I have to do this delicately. In the past, I have gotten myself caught in the dreaded "friends zone" and I wish not to return Haha. So I'm trying to use caution while approaching this girl I like.
I want to ask her in person to get together with me sometime because I feel more comfortable that way. I don't want to call her cause I haven't talked to her on the phone yet and I think it would be awkward to just call her up outta nowhere.
Also I think she use to like me a little bit back then but it's been so long I think I lost my chance. I can't remember a day that goes by that I don't think about her.
P.S. I'd rather not ask her out at work because it might make her feel 'trapped' but I think I'm going to have to since I don't really see her outside of work at all since school's out. So maybe you guys could give me a 'no-pressure' line to use on her while at work?
My question is how should I get her interested in me and how should I bring up hanging out with her again?
I'm crushing hard on this girl. : /
P.S.S. I remember she once said that she likes 'bad boys' which I am like polar opposite. I'm a nice guy and not overly confident but I can hold a conversation well with someone I know. (AND Thank you for taking the time to read this. XD)
1 AnswerSingles & Dating10 years agoDream interpretation? what does it mean?
Okay I had two dreams last night, both are a little vague right now but i'll give what info I can.
Dream one had this very big wolf in it. It was living in a post-apocalyptic world in some kind of broken down apartment. I remember it being very skiddish and running all over the place while I watched it from the ceiling? (I don't know what I was doing on the ceiling) But I'm getting the impression that me and some other people were hunting it?
Dream number 2 had a setting of a small studio apartment, where I was a slave too this big dog. I remember I tried rebelling against it to leave but this big yellow dog shot me with some futuristic weapon and I became temporary paralyzed. The big yellow dog left and after that I started to regain some movement. Once i sat up this little dog, which I believe was a Shi*zu, came up to me and said, "I was told I needed to watch you."
And that's all I can remember. I've tried looking this dream up but I have a hard time interpreting these myself.
Any insight?
1 AnswerDream Interpretation1 decade agoA question for University students and studying?
I'm a first year student at a local community college taking engineering classes, trying to save money while I get my general education classes out of the way. But I was wondering how hard are University level classes? Do you have to study alot?
Because as of right now, I am, what my mother calls, "Doing bare minimum just to get by". I spend maybe an hour or two (usually less than an hour) on the night before an exam or midterm, other than that I hardly crack open my book. My calc book has been sitting in my trunk since the beginning of the semester, I commute to school, and yet I've gotten an A+, B+, and two more A's on all the tests I've taken in Calc II. My Calc based Physics class I'm getting an A in as well. My Statics course (enginneering) I'm getting an A also. My Intro to philosophy class I'm between a B and an A.
I'm worried about going to a University because all through high school and my first and second semester of college, I'm getting away with not studying at all. I'm not trying to boast about my grades, I'm just trying to give a little more information.
I'm not saying I'm smart either, although my friends are always complementing me on my math skills and asking me to tutor them in exchange for them smoking me up, which is nice.
I'm sorry, yet thankful you took the time to read this through so I'll make it quick.
Can I get away without studying in University level classes or will I need to buckle down?
P.s. I usually pick up things pretty well when I sit in on Lectures.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoShould I just lose my Virginity now or wait a little longer?
Hi, I'm an 18 year old male with my virginity still. I guess I'm still a virgin partly because I want to wait for a girlfriend that I truly like but as time passes on I feel like I might never lose it. I'm not ugly or anything and I know women think I'm attractive because I constantly get smiles and 'looks' from girls at parties and my college.
Now last night I had a very attractive girl come up to me and startflirting heavily with me. One of the first questions she asked was "Where's your girlfriend?" And I told her I didn't have one and she said she didn't have a boyfriend either. We started flirting more and she was rubbing all up on me. She then offered me her number, without me even asking.
I know if I text her at some point in the following week it will probably lead to sex because she has a promiscuous reputation. The one thing that is keeping me from hooking up with random girls is the thought of getting an STD my first time having sex. And my opinion is that if a girl wants to hook up at a party she most likely has done it before many times at parties which increases the chances of her having something.
I feel like if I don't take this opportunity now, I might never lose it but then again I feel like It would be better to wait for someone I care about, at least for my first time.
Any advice?
18 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoRotator Cuff self-diagnosis?
Before I begin, I do plan on going to see a doctor sometime soon but I wanted to get some opinions, first, about my situation.
Okay so about 3 days ago I was on a snowboarding trip, went off a jump and landed on my shoulder (Go big or go home right?). The next morning I was in a decent amount of pain and couldn't even make a 45 degree angle at my side without the stiffness/pain stopping me. Over the next few days it has gotten progressively better. Today I just reached my arm above my head, completely straight, but it took me like 5-10 seconds to do. The pain I experienced while doing this was between mild and no pain at all.
Also I have trouble opening my car door and putting on my jacket. *it's my left shoulder*
And I have been babying my shoulder alot too.
Does this sound like a torn rotator cuff?
3 AnswersPain & Pain Management1 decade agoI think my mom's friend is hitting on me?
Okay I come home to my mom having a girls night at her house, they've all been drinking. I walk in they all start saying hi to me. I go to the kitchen and I'm stopped by my mom's friend, who is quite attractive. She keeps asking me if I think the roads are really bad and if she should stay the night. I'm like "Yeah i would stay over cause the roads are really bad." (cause they were) She kept asking me over and over again like in a drunken state. I would keep answering her and she went away and then came up to me and was like. "Tell me I should I stay. And I'm like "I already said you should, trust me it's not worth it.", casually. begging me to tell her she should stay, which I did. But she just left? What could I have done to seal the deal?
