Marvel comics ultimate Spider man?
below is a letter I sent to Marvel about ultimate spider man just wanna know if anyone agrees
dear Ultimate office
Congrats on ruining another comic! You have killed the most popular Ultimates character.
Then you re-write him in what has to be the biggest slap in the face to the African American community Your creative team could muster.
You must be so proud to set yourselves apart in such a way.
Now I will state right here I am not against African American heroes.
I think Blade, Rage, Falcon, Black, Panther, Storm, Luke Cage, and my favorite Night Thrasher
are great characters with there own stories and origins.
What you've done here with Spider man is a crock of s***.
The reason I say this is coloring Peter brown and giving him a different name does not make him a new hero.
* you have this new hero bitten by a genetically altered spider just like Peter
* The spider came from a Norman Osborne lab just like Peter
* It gets out due to someones neglegence just like Peter
* He comes from a low income/poor family just like Peter
I figure by issue 10, you will have him dating M.J.
Now you have stereotyped this character to the point of insult in the first issue. I am shocked you were even allowed to print it! Lets see f it doesn't sound like a stereotype when you read this letter to yourself :
A poor (black) kid from Brooklyn who has a direct relative who is a thief. Poor/low income family that can only get a good education through a program . So basically your saying to kids reading this
" Now kids, we cant make a African American hero unless we piggy back him on a well known and established super hero"
Nothing against this character but you really should of given him his own name costume and origin. Instead you have piggybacked the most noble and liked character in the Ultimate Universe.
You have insulted the character and the fans. it actually felt like I was being robbed having to pay for this first issue which was the chance I gave it to prove me wrong sadly it didn't
I hope and expect you'll see more letters like this from fans disappointed and ashamed of this comic. as for me I threw it out it was so much cr@p and have canceled my Ultimate Spider man subscription
Signed,
A lost Fan
p.s I am sure if a white kid wanted to be the next black panther you guys would all have a laugh and say no way so think about it from that prospective
