  • Am I the only one confused here?

So, Obama's chief political strategist was on NPR today and said that part of Obama's plan to improve healthcare is to force insurance companies to cover everyone...

Now... If insurance companies are forced to insure high risk patients, which ultimately means more payouts... How does this translate to lower prices for us? If anything, it would raise premiums... Otherwise insurance companies would start going out of business left and right... which will raise the price even more...

So, can someone help me understand this?

  • A question about global warming?

What would Al Gore have suggested to stop global warming 10,000 years ago... when the last ice age ended?

  • A question for Mikkfinn?

McCain has worked with several Democrats over his years in congress.. Including one of the most Liberal of all time, Ted Kennedy.

Is this one of the examples you would refer to when claiming that McCain is simply another Bush?

Also... Since McCain voted against 2 of the 4 Bush tax rate cuts, is this another example of how he "McSame"?

    http://votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=53...

Oh, what about the 10 or supplemental appropriations bills introduced to congress by Bush that McCain voted against? Going all the way back 2002? Does THAT make him just like Bush?

I am just curious. Do you have ANY real evidence other than your own rhetoric to back up your McClaim?

  • Should Seymour Hersh be indicted?

Scooter Libby was sentenced to prison in regard to the "outing" of a former covert agent...

Seymour Hersh published a story in the New Yorker outing entire covert companies... Shouldn't the same rules apply?

  • Which plan is better?

Obama wants to put $150 BILLION over the next 10 years into R&D of alternative energies with the end result of being completely oil independent.

So, are you OK with the (in the mean time) gas prices going up to maybe $10/gallon while we wait for smarter cars?

I have read his plan and there is NOTHING at all in it to help lower gas prices... In fact, what the plan calls for is to tax the oil/gas companies more (which will help to raise the price of gas) to pay for the majority of the plan... I mean, this is good in the sense that we are not paying in taxes... OR ARE WE? I mean, all taxes are eventually paid by consumers!

Anyway. Is this a good plan?

I hear Liberals complain a LOT more than Conservatives about gas prices... in fact, I hear a lot of Liberals complain that Conservatives are NOT complaining...

So, Liberals... are you OK with Obama's plan to literally double gas prices?

  • What do you think Pelosi's plan is?

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been blocking energy legislation for the last 2 years... Will she finally let off of that if Obama wins the White House?

And if McCain wins, will she make sure we continue to suffer as vengeance?

  • Did anyone listen to Diane Rehm this morning?

Apologies for the rant. Don't report, offer an intelligent argument. I am here to learn.

Her first guest this morning was a "scientist" (I never caught his name) who insists that the primary cause for global warming is human interfearance and that a vast majority of scientists believe this. I listened for almost the full hour trying to gain some insight. but he never offered a single bit of evidence, or even observation.

He did say a couple of interesting things, however.

"Skeptisizm is the life blood of science", though in the same sentence he accused "contrarians" (those with a different view) of being the cause of our confusion.

Then while responsing to an email from a meteorologist, he stated that he could not comment on the onservation as that was not his expertise.

HUH? If you are on NPR stating as a matter of fact that the CLIMATE is changing because of humans and NOT evolution... WHAT IS YOU EXPERTISE?

    Any thoughts?

  • How do you define UNILATERAL?

The Democrats are to this day continuing to claim that the U.S. went into Iraq "unilaterally"...

There are at least 20 other countries with military troops, and beyond that another 15 that provide various logistical support...

In fact, there are troops there NOW sent by the U.N. (UN Assistance Mission in Iraq [UNAMI])

So, why do Democrats continue to make this false claim?

And P.S. at the outset of the invasion, there were close to 50 counties with us... Again... how is this "unilateral"?

  • Does anyone actually care about ISSUES?

The people in this forum seem to be more interested in arguing, blaming and winning a debate than actually solving any problems.

With any problems, I prefer to start with me. Asking myself, what am I doing to contribute either to the problem or the solution? Next I look to my community... is there something wrong in my community? Is there something I can do? Is it an issue for the local government? Should I email Mr. Johnson (my congressional representative)?

I mean, I honestly believe if we spent as much time trying to solve our issues as we do blaming and trying to prove a point, more people would realize just how cool this place is!

My neighborhood is filled with people that truly respect and support one another... (and since it is primarily Hispanic, we have a LOT of BBQ) and no one around here is afraid... No one complains... we all help each other out and we just live our life...

How do YOU deal with your issues?

  • How does increasing supply NOT lower prices?

The Democrats insist that drilling for oil will do nothing to lower prices... How is this possible? Supply and demand dictates that an increase in supply (even the perception of a future increase) coupled with a decreased demand (if we have our own oil, we would order less from the Saudis) equals a lower price.

What is the rationale in saying that more supply would not decrease the price?

  • Why doesn't the ACLU address prayer in the U.S. Congress?

Every morning, before the congress starts their business, there is a Christian prayer offered...

We (taxpayers) pay these guys... So, doesn't the ACLU consider this a violation of the "separation" clause?

  • Who really controls the price of oil?

The crux of my question is this.

Those on the left insist that drilling and producing our own oil will do nothing in the short term to manipulate the price.

But if that is true, how can the same people then be so sure that speculators are even partially to blame for the high price?

If the price is influenced AT ALL by speculation, wouldn't the very possibility (current laws in the U.S. make it impossible for drilling currently) of drilling and production affect the price of oil futures? (FUTURES is what we are talking about after all)

    Your thoughts?

  • Don't you agree that the US Constitution should apply to EVERYONE?

Even they are foreigners caught fighting against us?

By that logic... didn't the Emperor of Japan deserve Constitutional protections after he ordered the bombing of Perl Harbor?

  • Do you remember when we opened the Gulf of Mexico for drilling 2 years ago?

I do... and I remember the price of oil dropping from $60 to around $50 almost over night! And gasoline dropped as well.

Soon after that, the Democrats took control of congress and every started going up again!
