  • Software naming - are you buying because of it?

Ok, somebody tell me: In a Windows world, software is typically named using some keyword that hints at its purpose. Not great, but at least I don't need to be "in-the-know".

However, in the Linux and Apple world, you get the oddest names, and they tend to run like code names or something. Sure, there may be an inside joke, but I'm not part of that.

So the question is: Do these fancy names really make any difference in a user's mind? Does Firefox conjure up notions of speed and cleverness that would sway a potential user, true or not?

I look at this question more not towards the people answering from their personal experience, but from how they see the general population/users of their respective OS environments.

    Thanks!

  • "Successful" green initiatives.?

We all talk about making sacrifices in fuel, power, organic, etc. in our efforts to live greener and improve the general health of the earth. I would like to know how many resources in our history have we freed our dependence on?

A big example is asbestos. It is a very useful and available substance, something that still has great potential to help mankind, but the cost to our health is great enough to force us to shift to other alternatives.

I am looking for examples, because we keep talking about giving up oil and such as if it's a no-brainer, yet we can't understand why it's so hard for the world to let go. To understand that there are successes would help us understand better the forces at work in these efforts.

Specific concoctions, such as DDT, would not qualify.

    Thanks!

  • The ONE thing in Florida I've got to do?

Name the ONE thing/experience in Florida that would make it worth a road trip (say less than 3-hr drive) outside of the Orlando area(WDW), where I would be based for couple of days?

Apologies to the Orlando attractions/locals, but we're already doing many of those.
