  • How do I know when a plant is done bearing fruit?

I have a watermelon vine that produced one melon and then hasn't made any more. The vine itself keeps growing like crazy and bearing flowers but no more fruit. I heard watermelons only grow fruit for one season then stop. How does one know when this limit is reached? It is now September. Has my plant reached it's end or could it be a nourishment/soil issue? Thanks.

  • Why is my 'in the money' stock option still worth less than what I paid?

I'm learning about options trading and doing some simulations on Investopedia. I bought a put with a strike price of $16 when the stock was $16.54. The stock has now been floating around $15.83 yet my option is still worth less than what I paid even though it's technically 'in the money'. Am I missing something? Is this just because it's a simulator and not accurate or can this occur in the real world? Thanks for anyone's help.

  • What do you call that phenomenon when you bump your forearm and you get a temporary lump?

If you stretch your arm out, palm facing down, there is an area on the top/outside forearm just before the elbow which if you hit it just right, a painful lump pops up. It's painful, but like 'funny-bone' painful and it disappears after a few seconds. What is this phenomenon called? The bicep also does it if you hit it just right. Thanks.

  • Loud transmission crunch. Leaked all fluid.?

2000 Ford Taurus - Today I went to back out of the driveway and there was a series of LOUD crunching/rattling noises from under the hood. It sounded like a lot of plastic toys breaking up in the engine compartment. I got out and looked under the car, thinking something got stuck in there or the fan blew to bits or something. When I didn't see anything, I tried to back out some more and the noise returned. Then the car started bucking in reverse. It would catch then slip, etc..., both in reverse and drive. If I tried to drive the car, it would roll a bit and then start the bucking and crunching noises. I started to figure it was the transmission so I popped it it neutral just to be safe and push it myself back into its parking spot. But oddly, the car would roll a few inches and then stop, as if stuck. Both rolling forward or back, it would only roll a few inches and then become stuck... in NEUTRAL. I got fed up, put it into drive and said 'oh, well'... and gave it more gas. The car then rolled passed this 'stuck' point, the crunching came back... and then suddenly, everything disappeared. No noise, no sticking point, nothing. I even backed out of the driveway and drove a circle around the parking lot and the car worked fine. In drive and in reverse. I started to wonder if it wasn't the transmission at all and if it was just some plastic piece that had broken off and lodged itself into the wheel or something. I parked, got out and started looking under the car. Then I saw the growing puddle of transmission fluid. I looked up and saw all the fluid dripping quickly out of the right(passenger) side of the engine.

Obviously there was some major malfunction. My question is, since the car resumed to function normally at the end, what are the chances that the trans. is still good and that the noise was just some broken pieces of seal or something making its way through?

  • Your opinion about bigotry?

I became curious about this word today and decided to read up on it a little bit. I'd like to hear why many people think bigotry (defined as "stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own") is wrong. Why is it wrong to have your own beliefs? Why do we need to agree with others.

I understand that if hatred is involved then I can see why it is bad. Hatred IS bad. But if I look upon someone else's opinion and think of it as wrong, but I respect their decision and love them just the same and wish them no ill will, does that make me a bigot? Does being a bigot stipulate that their has to be hatred involved? If I saw a movie that I liked, and you thought it was horrible, does that mean I'm a bigot if I don't agree with you?

I'm just curious to see this topic elaborated upon, as I have trouble understanding it... in a social context. Thanks for your contributions.

  • Cause of SLOW engine knocking?

03 Dodge Neon engine is knocking about once every 1 to 1.5 seconds at idle. I counted about 9 knocks in 10 seconds. Isn't that WAY too slow to be piston slap, considering the car is idling at about 800 - 1000 rpms or so? I'm trying to think what action is occurring at that frequency (my guess is once every 1.2 seconds or so) but can't think of anything that slow. The noise sounds like it's coming from the timing belt area. Any ideas? BTW, the frequency DOES increase with acceleration, so definitely engine-related.

If you do not want to link this YouTube account, you can sign out of YouTube here." What is up with that? I don't even have a google account. Is everyone gonna have to create dummy google accounts now just be able to sign into youtube?

  • Visiting a point in the universe from the past aka Time Travel...?

I don't think it would be possible to travel back in time and visit yourself (or any target actually). I was thinking about relativity and the whole frame-of-reference concept and realized that in order to be able to go back to a specific point in spacetime, you would need to somehow have marked that particular point. Remember, we orbit around the sun and the solar system orbits around the galaxy and our galaxy moves through the universe, etc ... therefore it would be impossible to know in the future where exactly we were in the past. We wouldn't even be able to drop a beacon off because it would just travel along with the earth, in the same frame of reference. Is there any plausable way to "mark" a specific point in space?

  • Does anyone know what these two chips are in this circuit board?

It's a circuit board from an RC plane. The two chips have 3 pins each and they seem to bridge the negative battery pole to the negative terminal of the DC motor. The print on the chips say 85T03GH and 608124.

  • Does an AC compressor have a relief valve? Weird leak.?

My mom brought me her Dodge Neon to refill the refrigerant. I've done it plenty times before since she has a tiny leak. I have to refill it about one small can a month. This time I noticed that as I refilled it, whenever the clutch kicked in it would spray out A LOT of refrigerant from this bolt/nut on top of the compressor. Weird as heck. As soon as the compressor turns off it stops. I see both in and out hoses are connected and fine but there's this nut on the top/rear that I have no idea what it is for. Any ideas?

  • New phone, Old SIM - why is AT&T asking me to activate new SIM?

My phone of 4 years (Cingular) finally broke and I got a new one from AT&T, with a renewed contract. Previously when I used to get new phones I would just put my old SIM into my new phone and keep on truckin. Well, with this new phone I got, AT&T sent a new SIM card along with instructions on activating the new card. I didn't want to bother with all that (plus transfering address book numbers) so I just put my old card into the new phone. Everything works as normal except for the "Cingular" logo on the screen. Fast forward about 2 weeks... I get an email from AT&T reminding me to activate my new SIM to "take advantage of all the 3G features". Also, a friend of mine who works at an AT&T kiosk said I have to activate the new card. Am I missing out on something? Everything on the phone works fine with my old card including mobile email, browser and all.

  • Weird bucking/thumping from car. Is it the transmission?

Recently my car started to act weird. The best way I can describe it is a weird thumping/bucking. When I'm in park or neutral it barely does it. Maybe just an occasional thump. But when I'm stopped at a light for example, the car feels like it's trying to buck forward. Accompanying this bucking is a thumping sound. Also I noticed that every time it does this, the headlights dim. So I took some readings today at the battery terminals with the car running and here's what I got: when in park 13.6V-13.7V; when in drive (with e.brake) 12.9V-13.3V; when in drive with a/c running 12.7V-13.0V. Every time it bucked the voltage dropped. I noticed the most violent bucking with the A/C running. It hasn't crippled the car yet but it's very annoying and when I try to accelerate the car shudders. I'm thinking it's got to be a tranny issue since it barely does it in park or neutral but I can't figure out what the relation to the voltage drop is and why it gets worst with the a/c running. Also, once I'm at about 30MPH and higher it disappears. The car drives great. Any ideas would be of great help. Thanks to all.

  • Would water-fueled cars?

Hypothetically speaking, would a global conversion to water-fueled cars eventually put a dent in the world's water supply? What happens to the hydrogen and oxygen atoms in the process of releasing energy? Are they annihilated? Where does the energy come from when hydrogen combusts?

  • Weird fuel pressure mystery!!! Flow stops. '90 Kawa. Vulcan motorcycle.?

Here's a problem I've never been able to figure out. I have a transparent fuel filter on my petcock which then splits to the front and rear carb fuel lines. Everytime I hop on the hwy (75-80mph) to work I notice the level in the fuel filter drop slowly. By the time I get off the hwy the bike's sputtering, the filter's empty. I have to pull over, remove the filter, let fuel pour freely from the tank into the filter to fill it and then plug it back onto the petcock. Then I'm set for another 10 minutes or so. Sometimes it empties again, & sometimes not. The weird thing is that it never does it @ night on the way home. In fact, I drove back one night from Daytona to Orlando & the bike was fine. At 1st I thought it was pressure-lock but I tried riding with the gas cap off and it still does it. When the filter empties (with gas cap on or off!) you can see NO gas dripping from the tank. As soon as I pull off the filter the fuel pours out freely from the petcock. Very weird! Any ideas?

  • Is there any dialup service that doesn't need software?

Basically, I want to sign up for dialup service so I can use my laptop on the road from any given phone line. What I want is basically just an account and access #. I don't want to use something that's gonna install or requires software to use it. I know AOL and PeoplePC have software that you use to connect and it's just a waste to me. All I want is to open up my modem window, type in the access number and have it connect. Then I can open IE and do what I gotta do. Is there such a provider out there?

  • What causes a broken tire belt?

My wife's car has a broken belt in the front driver-side tire...AGAIN!!! The same thing happened once before like a year ago. Here's some background info... she was in an accident a while back and that strut got all messed up. They had to have crash bolts installed (Tire Kingdom) just to get the camber back within limits. The wear pattern wasn't that bad... a little excessive wear on the outside edges. My question is can bad alignment cause a belt to break or is it another reason like hitting potholes or something? What are the most common causes?

  • What's the deal with side-mounted motorcycle tags???

I keep seeing these and i just don't get it. Is it a functional modification? If so, I've racked my brain and can't come up with a good reason. If anything, wouldn't it produce more drag? And if it's for aesthetic reasons then... I must be getting old because it looks like sh*t!!!! It looks like a sore thumb sticking out of place.
