  • A place that I rented from is trying to charge me $1500 for "cleaning and painting".?

What legal recourse do I have? They said they would accept monthly payments, but I cannot add another bill to my budget. I offered to pay them 800, and they told me to take a hike. I asked them to mail me a detailed list of the damage and whatnot... However, $1500 seems a bit high considering it was a 730 sq. ft. apartment and we lived there for four years.

My other part of this question is, if they turn it in to collections, how much would collections likely give to them? 50%? 60%? I'm just looking for a ballpark figure and what is considered "normal". If it DOES go to collections, does it stay on my credit report, and if I pay it AFTER it's gone to collections and settle with the collection agency, does it stay on my credit report?

I admit that we DO owe them something for cleaning as we left in a hurry and, as a result, did leave a bit of a mess. No, we didn't think to take pictures or get other "evidence" before we left as we left in a hurry (though we did give them the notice required by law). I'm willing to pay them something, but $1500 is insane, particularly when the rent for the apartment was $500 a month. Sources would be helpful, please. Thank you. :-)

  • Affordable laptop good for gaming?

I would like to buy my wife a laptop that would be decent for gaming (she really enjoys Spore and the Sims 2), but would like a laptop that won't break the bank.

What kind of laptop can I get that's under or between 700-1000 dollars that won't run majorly slow while playing the Sims 2? What's more, what are my options with regards to upgrading a video graphics card on a laptop? Is that even possible?

    Thank you for your help!

  • My first motorcycle?

I am getting ready to buy a motorcycle (within the next year), and this will be my first bike. I've taken the safety course and I will have my endorsement next week, when I go to the DOL. Advice on the kind of bike I should get?

If it makes any difference, which I'm sure it does, I'm about 6'1"-6'2" and 195 lbs. or so. I don't have a huge budget, either. I just want something that I can commute to work and college with. Thanks in advance!

  • Real Estate question?

If I buy a home that has been foreclosed on, and the price is listed on the realtor/bank's website, is the price listed generally the total cost of the house? I'm looking to buy a house and I may buy a home that's been foreclosed on because they are cheaper. Is there any advice that you could give me on what I should look for or beware of if I choose to do this?

Is there a nice zoo in North Carolina? What are some fun things to do with children in the Charlotte Area? How about the Raleigh-Durham area?

  • How hard would it be to find a house in the Columbia, SC or Greenville, SC area for under 150K?

I'm looking to move, and because my household has only one income, I'm looking for a city to move to that has an airport, where I can find a house for under 150K. Would it be possible to find a house for less than 150K in/near Columbia or Greenville, SC?

  • Is it feasible to buy a 3-4 bedroom home in Pittsburgh, PA for under $150K?

I'm looking at moving to the Pittsburgh, PA area, and am wondering how likely it is to find a decent looking 3-4 bedroom house in Pittsburgh, preferably close to the airport. I have looked at Realtor.com and other websites, and would like a Pittsburgh-native or someone who has lived in Pittsburgh for a while to give me an idea of whether or not I can actually buy a house for under 150K.
