  • I need 1 month off in a new job?

So an employer wants to hire me this month, and I can only work until Mid-May and then I am out of the state from May til the beginning of July. I may have other plans when I return so I will most likely not be returning to that job. Should I tell my employer before they hire me? I am afraid of that affecting the decision to hire me, since this is kind of a career more than a job.. However I have been applying for months all over now to make money and no signs from anywhere. So I just want to accept a job right now.

But I guess I will feel bad since they seem nice.. Anyways is this common? So i will be working for about 3 months if I take the job.

  • I want to be a pilot and I have a bachelors degree. Should I join the Air Force?

I just received my bachelor's degree in social science, and decided I want to become a pilot. Currently I have no background education in aviation, and at a local community college I know they have a degree in Commercial Aviation that enables you to obtain a commercial pilot certificate and log 250 flight hours. However, money is the biggest issue for me and this program will cost a little over $50k for two years.

So I started to consider the Air Force as I heard airlines do take military training in high regards and it will help me financially. I also feel like I need this type of challenge in my life and it will help me grow both personally and professionally. What is stopping me from just joining is I'm not sure if it is a guarantee that the AF will place me in pilot training, and I overall nervous about life in the AF.

If anyone has any knowledge or experience in the Air Force or aviation, please share your opinion.

  • Is it fair for my friend to blame me?

So I was working on my senior thesis in the library and my phone died.

The next day, one of my friends tell me that she went out a partied last night and smoked pot. She usually doesn't do this, but she said she did it because she was really emotional last night, and said she messaged me to talk about it, but because she couldn't reach me, she decide to make bad choices.

So when she was talking to me, I felt like she was trying to make me feel guilty about it, even though I told her my phone was not working.

should I feel guilty? I notice she does this every time I'm not "there" for her...

  • Interesting presentation for physical geography?

I need ideas for a presentation for my physical geography class. I'm not so interested (taking as a prereq) in this class, so it would be helpful if I get some ideas.

This presentation can be an issue in the environment, which can be about, climatology, biogeography, geography, etc. Has to be a specific topic, but enough sources to back up the information.

  • Does she have a condition?

I think a friend of mine has a money problem.

She's constantly shopping online, and just generally...spending a lot of money.

2 weeks ago, we bought deals to go on a small trip for spring break, which will cost a little over $100 each.

Recently, she received a $450 fine for running a red light. Devastated, she swore she wouldn't be spending too much money after this, and even canceled some of our plans (like going out to a nightclub, eating ice cream)

But then yesterday she told me she'd be getting a tattoo for $120 soon and today bought another outfit online, along with tickets to a Broadway musical, totaling over another $120. Yet, when I asked her about going for frozen yogurt tomorrow she stated that she simply "can't afford it" and she constantly complains about not having enough money and overcharges me to chip in for gas when we go out together.

On top of that, she refuses to pay for health insurance, but sometimes have unusual symptoms and complains that she can't pay for adequate medical care.

I just want to know what you guys think about this. Is there anything I can do to help her?

  • What is this sociology question asking?

What do you think about different cultural positions regarding deviance?

Is deviance merely a labeling phenomena as some sociologists argue?

Is there a universal position on some deviant acts?

Can we think of other acts that were at once seen as deviant that are now not viewed as such?
