  • Elite vs. Excel SAT Prep?

I am planning on taking a SAT prep class and I want people's opinion what what they think. I don't want people to suggest not to take a prep class because I have already decided I am going, I just need help choosing which one.

These are some of the things I hear:

    Elite

    large class sizes

planning on taking the SAT boot camp

    super hard

    not a lot of fun

    lot of memorizing

i know people who has got great scores, but didn't like it much

    Excel

    really small class sizes

    a lot of one-on-one help

actually teaches strategies on how to do better on the SAT

not as rigorous, but equally effective

most of their centers are in hotels (which is not an environment my parents want me to learn in)

i know friends that are going there, but I don't know anyone who has gone there.

these are the things I want to know

    how are the instructors?

what are the differences between the two institutions

what are the negatives of each institute?

    positives?

    any personal experiences?

  • College: good gpa+ couple of bad individual grades = ?

What if your GPA is high, but there are individual grades that look bad? My freshman year, straight A's. My sophomore year is composed of B's, C's, and D's. My junior year was way better. Worked super hard, took 5 AP's. Have 2 B's, and the rest are all A's. If I keep up getting A's and B's my senior year. What are my chances of getting into UCLA. I know my sophomore year has horrible grades. Will this affect my chances of being accepted into UCLA, even if I have a GPA thats at or above the average of UCLA's undergrad admissions? Please help! this college is my top choice in state. I'm kinda scared, how this will look. Its inconsistent, and I have no good reason behind my bad grades sophomore year besides the fact that i didn't expect the transition from regular classes to honors and AP classes to be so difficult.

  • Raisin in the Sun - is this a good analysis?

Prompt: The title of our play comes from Langston Hughes' poem, "A Dream Deferred." Choose one of the following characters from the book ( I chose Lena aka Mama). Explain how their "dreams"/ desires relate to the concept of a "dream deferred" and the American dream.

FYI: We are supposed to be writing this based on the story up to the end of Act 1, which is where Ruth faints. We can use the scene 1 from Act 2 if we want to.

In the play, A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry portrays the story of Lena, a woman despite her long, rough life and family struggles continues to believe in and pursue the American dream. Lena Younger, a.k.a. Mama, is a strong and independent woman, who has dedicated her life to her children. She lives with her daughter, son, daughter-in law, and her grandson, in a dingy, one-bedroom apartment in the South Side of Chicago. She receives an insurance check for $10,000; this money comes from the deceased Mr. Younger’s life insurance policy. Mama’s wants to put away a portion of the money of the money toward her daughter, Beneatha’s education, and use the remaining to buy a house, which was a dream she shared with her late husband. Lena fantasizes “ ‘bout buying... [a] house and fixing it up and making… a little garden in the back…”(19). Mama tries very hard to keep her family together and functioning, and she see the house as a force that will bring unity. She wants a place where her grandson, Travis will no longer have to sleep on the couch, but have a room of his own; she also wants a place where the sunlight can reach her plants. Mama has the good old values of putting your family first, respecting your mother, and father, and respecting the Lord. She refuses to give money to her son, Walter Lee to invest in a liquor store because not only does it go against her morals, but also because she wants to achieve her American dream of a house with a white-picket fence, a yard, and a proper roof over her family’s heads’.

How is the analysis for that quote? Is there anything else I can add/delete to make it better?

My next quote is going to be: "some of it got to be put away for Beneatha's schooling' "

the quote is about how Lena (mama) wants to save money for Beneatha's education.

What analysis can I provide for this quote that would support my topic sentence of how despite her struggles, mama still pursues her American dream.

Should I use a different quote? Any appropriate suggestions are appreciated.

THANK-YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR READING IT!

  • Lord of the Flies - Are humans inherently good or evil?

I want to show how they transition from civilized to savagery. 3 paragraphs: the first one about the beginning, the second about the middle (where there is a slight transition), and the third about the end where they all join Jack's tribe which shows they have made a complete transformation into savagery. I want about specific examples that happened in the beginning, middle, and end, what could I use. What i absolutely don't want to do is summarize the book in 3 body paragraphs. The examples have to fit the topic. Please help, any suggestions on what examples I have to use. and please do not direct me to other links. thanks :)

  • Unit conversions? Where in my work did I go wrong?

The volume of a bacteria cell is 2.16 micrometers cubed. How many bacteria will fit in a volume of 1.50 mL? (1 ounce =29.6 mL) (100 cm = 1 m)

    my work:

    1 m /1,000,000 = x/2.16

    x=0.00000216 m

    convert 0.00000216 m to cm

    0.000216 cm

    convert cm to cm^3

    1.01 * 10^-11 cm^3

    convert cm^3 to mL

this is where i got stuck. tell me where i went wrong? and please show work

  • Forensic Science? How can I get involved? ?

I'm going to be a sophomore and I'm not good at sports. I'm get A's but there is a B here and there. But one thing I'm super passionate about is Forensic Science. I've always found it facinating to work in a lab and help catch the bad guys. But as you can see I'm only in High school but I really want to start getting involved in this field somehow. I live in San Ramon, CA. I've looked online and tried to find something that would help me get into forensic science. I want to do something like an internship, but even if it's volunteering I'll take it. But my only problem, I can't find any place where I can start. Please help me find somewhere I an intern or volunteer at. Just post a link to their website or their contact info. P.s. I'll be 16 in a couple of months.
