  • promised pay raise - company backed out?

I was verbally told I would receive a substantial pay raise beginning in 2008. When I did not receive the raise, I spoke to my boss who said there was a problem with HR. They (HR and boss) have now declined to give me the pay raise saying a mistake was made. Is there any recourse? The company is now back-tracking on a promise - what can I do to support my claim? All I have is a verbal promise from my boss and a note he wrote that showed how much my salary would increase in 2008 - and it is clearly his hand writing. Other workers in my department are in the same boat.

  • What is the worst case scenario for Kosovo territory?

Albanians have said they will declare independence in December - which should not be recognized by international law or UN rules. However, Serbia could move military to area to secure Serbs living there. Could it involve US/UN fighting Serbs? Could it involve the Russian military? How strong is the Serbian military? How strong is US presence?

  • Is this the end for Blackwater in Iraq?

After today's shootout where Blackwater employees allegedly killed 11 Iraqi civilians. This will probably end up as the reason why you don't use contractors in war. What is everyone's thoughts? Will they be tried in Iraqi courts - should they?

  • easement on my land?

I live in a residential area and own a home. On my lot there is a 15 X 50 foot easement. The easement is owned by a private party for access to forest land behind my home. The easement has only been used once in over 15 years to drive a truck through. I would like to build a fence in my backyard which would block the easement. I would install a 12 foot drive gate for access...will this be acceptable? any problems? thanks!

  • Why did the British sailors give up against the Iranians?

I know they were in small boats, and probably outgunned by larger, heavily armed patrol boats. But, they were armed, wouldn't you at least fight or speed off in another direction? To me they gave in too easily when this all could have been avoided.

  • Engineers/Conductors: have you ever heard of this?

I observed a loaded train stop near a small town. It appeared the crew exited the cab and walked across the street to a mini-mart and bought snacks then started on their way. Is this normal? Perhaps one of the crew was sick and needed something? I just thought it was strange.
