I have been keeping fish since I was very young and grew up in a pet-loving family. I mainly keep goldfish but I have been known to keep tropicals. Right now I keep one 29 gallon fancy goldfish tank and one 5 gallon planted betta/oto tank. I rather consider myself a crusader for goldies and bettas. haha. Because there's just so much stupid info and myths floating around about them and I feel I own them the favor of informing people since these charming little fish amuse and intrigue me so much every day. I also have one cat, another type of pet I have never been without. I have kept Oscars, sharks and many many other tropical fish. I have never had the money to own a marine tank, but I hope to one day! I have my BA in Graphic Design with a focus on Illustration, which has nothing to do with my fish. I also enjoy sewing costumes, acting and singing :)
Stocking Sugesstion? (Danios in there now)?
I have a buddy that's really into guppies and I have a tank that needs stocking... But I already have 3 zebra danios in there (getting at least 3-4 more this week...)
I keep getting conflicting info on the guppies and danios living together. These are not fancy guppies. Just little white/clear ones.. well they have Lyretail blood in them...but don't show it but that's beside the point. The point is they are very plain and quick.
Do the sites saying Danios and guppies don't get along because they assume everyone keeps the pretty little fancy guys? I know you shouldn't generally keep them with zebras as zebras are quick little fin-nippers...but what about the plain guys?
I'm just trying to decide what fish to get :) I usually have larger fish, wanted a small tropical tank to diversify my tank collection. So any other fish you think would do well in here and be interesting would be helpful to :) I'm quite open. I'd like to stick with small fish (1.5-2" or under) and no more bottom-dwellers.
here's what I have already.
a reg 20 gallon (cycled) tank
Moderately planted, will probably plant heavier
Driftwood
Eco-Complete substrate
Marineland Penguin Biowheel Filter
Heated to an average of 72F
3 Zebra Danios (going to get some long-finned and blues to make a schoal of about 6-7)
2 oto catfish (these two have done fine by themselves for almost a year now, I don't think I will be getting any more)
about 3-5 ghost shrimp...hard to keep track of them
Would you guys go with the cute little guppies or some other type of fish. I kinda want a livebearer... my lfs is very good and carries alot of species other's don't and also buys local fry so I know where my fish are coming from most of the time, so shoot! Should I even bother with more than the Danios? lol.
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoHow would YOU stock my 20 gallon?
The filter die don my HEX tank and I'm using it as an excuse to buy a new bigger tank :) I had 1 CT Betta in the HEX + 2 oto cats. I knew the otos couldn't go long without a filter so I ran out and bough the new tank right away. I'm going to leave the betta in the 5 gallon HEX without the filter, I'll just have to keep on top of it. Within the next few weeks I'll get him a new filter as well :)
Here's the setup I want to stock. I want small fish, peaceful and natural-looking. I do not wnt fish that will eat up all my plants.
Size - 20 US gallons tall
Substrate - Eco-Complete Planted tank substrate
Plants - several low-light plants ( I plan on adding more next week)
filtration - Penguin 100
Inhabitants - 2 oto catfish
Heated
Probably going to mini-cycle for the next few weeks. Eco-complete comes with nitrifying bacteria in it already so tanks cycle fat with it. Also using filter media from an existing tank. So after all this is stable, I want a few more fish! I have a few ideas in mind, but I wanted to know how others would do it as well. I'd like to get a few more otos as they like to hang out in groups.
Okay! Shoot!
7 AnswersFish1 decade agoPA Photo ID requirements...?
I need to fly from Pittsburgh to Philly this Thursday evening. Now, in order to board the plane, I have to show a form of valid ID. I moved from Ohio to PA for college and have since graduated. My Ohio State ID is a few years (2) out of date, so it is not valid. I am now a resident of PA (even registered to vote here!) I do not have a Social Security Card (mother lost it) which I need to get a PA state ID. You can see my problem I hope. I should not have waited to long to get a new ID...but hindsight is 20/20 and it hasn't really come up until now. I'm an idiot..I know.
Now, when I obtained my ID in Ohio, they had the option of putting your social security number on it. I had to present my SS card to them, and they put my number on my ID card. I still have this ID. Would it be enough to replace my Social Security card? I have, besides that my Birth certificate, pay stubs, bills, lease agreement, old college ID and can bring along someone who has a valid ID that can vouch for me.
I really do not want to miss this job opportunity I have in Philly and wish I had the time to replace my SS card...
Any advice would be appreciated. Would my old card be acceptable for my SS number? Would Southwest Airlines take my old ID? My hair is shorter than it was then, but I look about the same.
