  • Looking for a Female Button Quail?

I ve adopted a male button quail with a very calm demeanor that was a chick in the spring. I m looking for a female companion for him, but I seem to be striking out. Does anyone have or know where I can find a female button quail of about the same age? I live in the Midwest and I would prefer to not order one by mail.

  • Question about fainting -?

I'm a 17 year old female. Today in early bird gym, we ran the pacer. So as usual, boys went first. About half-way through their run, I got a particularly bad cramp in my stomach, (which felt like a menstrual cramp,) and It hurt, but I've had cramps as bad before. I went to the restroom to try to get away from the noise, and to try to go to the bathroom. After I did, I felt nauseous, like I was going to throw up, so I quickly went to my gym teacher and asked to be excused. I was getting tired quickly, and I quasi-staggered across the gym foyer to the OTHER locker rooms.. (where my stuff was.) I reached into my bag to get my phone to call my mom, and as this was happening I could feel my self getting weaker and weaker. The corners of my vision grew black, and by the time I finally sat down, I was almost blinded, and I found myself fighting with everything inside of me to NOT pass out. Through rapid breath, (It became difficult to breathe,) I managed to call my boyfriend, who courteously took me home since my mom's phone wasn't on. When I took the phone away from my face, I realized it was covered in sweat, as I was not only (probably) running a quick fever, I was sweating profusely. This has never happened to me before. However, the moment I was on my way to his car, my symptoms, (minus the shakiness/edginess) ceased. I've never fainted, and this was so sudden. I was able to return to school for the rest of the day but around 6 pm, my chest started hurting, right under my ribcage. it may have been gas pains, but it hurt.

If anybody can put these symptoms together for me, that would be lovely. Does anyone know what happened to me? Thanks.

  • So there's this bird?

I was walking by a creek in Iowa city earlier today and I saw a strange bird. It was larger than normal, about the size of two potatoes... (I would use a better analogy but I can't think of anything!) it's feathers were red/orange/brown colored, and it's beak looked much like that of a kiwi bird's. It actually looked quite a bit like a kiwi bird, but as I was thinking that, it flew away... and ideas of what this bird is?

  • Is there a name for a literary device that..?

I'm studying the poem "Norman Morrison" by Adrian Mitchell, and there is a part where in my first grouping, it reads " He did it in Washington where everyone could see," and in the middle grouping, it reads "in the dark corners of Vietnam where nobody could see," and in the final grouping, it reads "In the white heart of Washington where everyone could see." Is there a name for a contrasting literary device such as this?

  • A question about cheesecakes?

I'm making a cheesecake recipe that calls for a water bath. I'm fine with cracks in my cheese cake, and I don't have a dish deep enough to bathe it in anyway. So If the baking time in the water bath is an hour and 45 minutes at 325 degrees, is the time and temperature different for baking without a water bath?

  • A math question? (Algebra 1)?

Usually this class is easy for me, but like a lot of people, story problems are terrible, and I need help on one.

Brianna's family spent $134 on 2 adult tickets and 3 youth tickets at an amusement park. Max's family spent $146 on 3 adult tickets and 2 youth tickets. What is the price of a youth ticket?

Could somebody please help me out and show me how to do this? (not just the answer?)

  • Do you think this speech is worth giving?

I'm writing a speech on circus animals for School. I'd love it if you shared your opinion ^.^

When I was younger, I always dreamed of visiting the circus to see the contortionists, trapeze artists, even the clowns. But most of all, I wanted to see the animals! But, I never thought about what the animals must go through on a daily basis.

When I started researching, I found that what appears to be talented, trained animals, are truly abused, dejected animals bred into captivity. And that's only scratching the surface. These animals are beaten, whipped, dragged, and electrocuted during "training." What's more unbelievable, is some circuses claim to use "positive reinforcement." (well, it that were true, we'd see treats in their hands instead of metal bull hooks.) And, it's still not over. While animals aren't preforming, or during transportation, they're kept in tiny, filthy cages with barely enough room to stand in. Elephants, who walk up to 25 miles in the wild are bound with shackles so they cannot move back or forth.

If you've ever been to a circus and seen a tiger pacing back and forth, or an elephant swaying in it's shackles, this isn't normal behavior. They're signs of deep psychological stress. Due to this, there have been many cases of animals attacking humans. Since 1990, attacks by captive big cats have resulted in 46 human deaths, and the killing of 70 big cats. 13 Humans have been killed by captive bears. 8 of them were children. Attacks result in 26 bears being killed. Since 1990, attacks by captive primates resulted in 2 human deaths, 130 human injuries, and the killing of 450 primates. 57 people have been killed by captive elephants, and 120 were injured. Although this is terrible, So is the means by which it happened. Can we really blame the animals?

Just like many other kinds of animal "entertainment," when the animal can no longer preform, it's no longer of value to the circus. They could be permanently caged, sold to a game farm to be hunted, or sold to a lab.

A lot of people love circuses, but we have to understand that a circus animal's life is the farthest thing from an ideal. There are a number of ways to help this cause. You could simply steer away from circuses that use animals. There are a number of cruelty free circuses, such as cirque du Soleil, New Pickle Family Circus, and Cirque Éloize. Another way is to educate those around you about what really happens in the circus.

Now that you know what a terrible place a circus is for an animal, I would hope you reconsider the next time you want to go see the elephants walking the tightrope.
