  • Arithmetic help with percentages?

They say when you pass 50 the first thing to go is your eye site, however I find my ability to do arithmetic has gone south first. In the form of a question:

In 1979 my club has 1,500,000 members now in 2009 it has 345,000 members. I am having trouble finding the loss percentage for each decade and the entire 30years.

    Please show your work:

  • E.A.Poe Collection Information?

This come up in the history section about an Edgar Allen Poe collection I have in my library. This was inherited from my Great Grand Uncle's library who, like myself, has little use for fiction works. Who ever owned these originally had little love for his work and made comments through out the volumes-thankfully on note cards. The term "Great American Hack" is used many times. It is a 1903 Centenary Edition with paintings from Arthur E. Becher-who I have never heard of. Here is a scan I did of volume 4 interior front for the Insurance wolves some time ago.

If you know anything about this collection I would love to here it as I doubt the normal internet will have much about it.

  • Steeler Fans The stupid towel-already!!?

Got a note from a Pittsburgh fan saying they are going to get "us" at the game Sept 10th. Not the Titans players mind you but the Titans fans-because we all laughed so hard at the game last year when Keith Bullock wiped his butt with the towel-the part they didn't show on TV but all the fans in the stadium saw. Are you guys crazy or what?

  • Mt Washington's 231mph wind gust-and Sun Dogs?

Alex's McKenzie's book about the event downplays any significance of the concurrence. I have never seen a sundog but I understand it's a a refraction phenomenon of light. He notes the observation night before. I was wondering if in the last 75 or so years has any of that thinking changed.

  • Great Chance to see Andromeda Tonight In Southern US?

Due to light pollution where I live(TN) Last night was only my second really good view. I'm using Orion Giant Binoculars 20x70 but I'm sure any good Binocular would do. Without triangle points to use it's quite impossible because of the Nashville city lights to the north, Mounted on a 4 foot tripod I simply used the moon and Venus and 2 yardsticks to complete the triangle and there it was!!!

An incredible site and am looking forward to tonight as well.

The photo guide I made should be easy to follow. It is looking due west at 7:42 tonight.

I guess my question would be can anyone else see it?

  • Help with Govert Schilling article in S&T April 09?

In April 09 Sky and Telescope Mr. Schilling article on dark matter either there is an editing mistake or I and others are confused:

    I'll quote.

"Dark matter: the mysterious stuff not made up of atoms that constitutes the bulk of matter in the universe-but whose nature is shrouded in mystery. However, they could instead point to nearby pulsars-a type of object known to exist"

Is he describing " a type of object that is known to exist" as the nearby pulsars or the dark matter?

Confusing as the article moves on without an explanation as to which "is known to exist"

  • What event caused the separation of the National media.?

I can't seem to locate a date, or specific event, that I can use to show the separation into Liberal (CNN,ABC,CBS) and Conservative(FOX, Talk Radio) for a critical essay. The extent of this separation is so profound today. I am leaning on the argument it started with the attempt to impeach President Clinton.

    Please don't politicize answers.

  • Name this Pulitzer Prize winning American Journalist A challenge to all on this day ?

Sorry, no goog or wiki going to help you here.Lets see if anyone here really knows history. Now lets see if all the "Best Answer googlers" can get this-and what a fitting day it is for this question and a quote that is so true no one (here or in the media).can hide from it

"There is no such thing,at this date of the world's history. in America,as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one who dares to write an honest opinion, and if you did, you would know before hand it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the media. Any journalist, that would so foolish as to write an honest opinion would be out on the streets looking for another job.

If I allowed my honest opinion to appear in one single issue of one single media outlet my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of the mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting of an independent press?

We are the tools and the vassals of the rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull our strings and we dance. Our talents and our lives are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes"

  • Warren Report evidence volumes?

I need volumes 14,15 and 21 for research on a project I've been working on for the last 20,000 years it sometimes seems. They have them at my city's library but thats 50 miles and you can't check them out or even handle them-just look is all. I've seen complete sets-all 26-for sale and they start at about $100,000. I have never seen them on the net in digital to read or download-has anyone?. Anywhere?
