  • Why Modified Hank's Buffered Salt Solution to be Magnesium & Calcium Free?

    I know that I need to use HBSS for storage of my dental enamel samples. When I searched for Hank's solution, several varieties popped up.

    I would like to know why there is a modified version of Hank's solution where magnesium and calcium is left out. For which applications would these modified buffer formulations be used instead of the original version?

    Thank you very much - after about an hour and a half of searching the web, I am still unable to figure this out.
