  • Can My Boss Change the Schedule in the Middle of the Night?

I understand my employment is "at-will" which means, legally speaking, as long as they don't ask you to commit a crime they can basically demand whatever they want from you. However, this seems really wrong. The concise version is that I work at a foster home for developmentally-disabled adults, I was scheduled to work 6am to 1pm today. When I got to work this morning my supervisor had left a note saying I had to take a client to the doctor at 1pm, which takes between 2 and 4 hours. So she changed the schedule overnight and did not notify me, and when I told her I couldn't because I have things I had to do today before 5pm (bank, courthouse, bills to be paid, personal errands), she told me I have to see her in her office tomorrow. So I'm guessing I'm either written up or fired. Is this right? Can your boss actually change the schedule in the middle of the night, forcing you into overtime without notice and then fire you for not doing it? I'm guessing it's legal, and that's depressing.

For a little back-story, I have been working there for a year now, I've never been written up or had my boss talk to me about any sort of problem with me. I have only called in sick one time. I've never even been more than five minutes late. I have come in every single time I've been called in (which has been a lot, I usually get at least four hours of overtime on each of my checks). I work all three shifts (morning, evening, and overnight) on a regular basis, get scheduled for 10 to 12 hour shifts at least four times a month, often get scheduled to have only one day off a week and I have never refused to do any of it. This is the first time I've said no to my supervisor. After I talked to her this morning I called the company owner and left a message for him to call me, so I've attempted to get this addressed by the higher-ups. So far have not heard back from him, and I'm incredibly frustrated.

Oh, and if it matters, I'm in Minnesota, and I'm sorry if this was better suited for a different category.

  • Same Router, Separate Computers, Tracking History?

Possibly a stupid question, but. . . if two people in the same household are using the same router to access the internet on separate computers, is there any way to track the internet activity of the other person's computer using your own?
