  • From a snaffle to what?

All I have ever used on a horse is a tom thumb. Never had a problem up until this past year. The new horse I got last January does not work well with a tom thumb. After having some constructive help at a few ride days with the small 4H club I belong to we have pin pointed her problem. The first time I rode her at the ride day I took my tom thumb and my show curb bit. I started using the show curb bit and the woman that was helping me noticed a big problem. My horse, Shy, was not extending out very much at all. VERY STIFF. The woman helping me suggested that I should try a snaffle bit on Shy. Luckily enough she had a snaffle bit in her truck! So I used that for a bit(no pun intended! lol!) She rode so much better with it!

I used an Eggbutt snaffle that I have on Shy again only out on a trail ride. Lets note in also that my horse does not trail ride very well at all. She is so spooky! This time she was an angel! You wouldnt even believe this was my horse! I couldnt even believe it!

At the next ride day, I used the snaffle again. The woman helping us all even noticed a HUGE difference in Shy. She could not believe it was the same horse!

All in all the bit is working great for Shy. My only problem is.....I dont ride English. I ride western. It is "illegal" in the rule book to ride with a snaffle bit for western at 4H shows. I used a curb bit but I HATE IT and so does Shy!

Both the woman and I want to try and find a bit comparable to the eggbutt snaffle that we are currently using.

Does anyone know what kind of bit we could switch to just for showing that is like a snaffle only legal for 4H showing for western?

  • L'oreal Decrease Greasy?

I have noticed that my l'oreal decrease has become greasy? I had to depot it because I couldnt get anymore out of the tube. So I cut the end off and put it in a small jar. Every time I use it though, it feels very greasy on my eyelids? Has anyone else had this feeling? BY the end of the day, my eyeshadow isnt even there anymore. Sam ewith my WATERPROOF eyeliner?! Before I used the L'oreal decrease, my eyeliner stayed all day long. No touch ups? I have noticed the primer getting worse too? It doesnt even last a few hours anymore? Does anyone know of any REALLY good bases/primers for the eyelids? I would really like to get away from this base either way?

  • 4-H Horse Question+Fair entry stuff! Help needed!?

I know someone that just got one of the Top 5 Outstanding 4H Members in our state and I want to know how you would achieve that award? I really am trying to get more involved in 4H and I would love to know this step! lol! Also I am trying to think of a project that I could enter in my county fair next year. Like someone did the entire digestive system of a horse this past fair. I was thinking of doing the importance of getting your horse's teeth floated? Does anyone think that is good?

  • What kind of bits can I use with a training fork?

I am trying to train my horse's headset for western pleasure. I bought her last January, she is a magnificent WP horse. She has gone to States for 4H for many years and won her classes. She wasnt used for many months after states because the girl that was riding her got a new horse. She still has the gaits of a WP horse but the headset is all over the place. I have used a training fork before but it was about 4 years ago. I used it while lunging a different horse. I cannot remember what bit I used. I think it was a sweet iron twisted wire ring snaffle. I have an eggbutt snaffle too. Oh and a tom thumb, but I dont want to use that with a training fork. I want to lunge her in this also. SO the saddle and everything would be on her back. Eventually I will be riding her with the training fork. Any ideas on bits?

  • How to train a western pleasure gait?

I got a new horse at the end of January and she is trained for western pleasure. But I am having great difficulty keeping her a slower gait with a loose rein! Or if she is going at the right, nice slow speed she breaks and goes the gait slower. If we are jogging, she breaks to a walk after a while. If we are loping she breaks to a jog. And then if I am trying to get her to go back into a lope she jogs really fast and I eventually have to stop and back her up. I am currently using a tom thumb on her, but I think I am changing to a curb bit of some sort for show season? I would really like to get her used to the training in a tom thumb before we have to get slightly more of a bit for shows. I have been watching videos on Youtube of Congress and World AQHA shows and I can't figure out what to do. She is 13 going on 14 in June. She's not that old. I get frustrated after I am done at the barn and I sometimes just end up crying because I am frustrated and mad at myself because I can't get her to do what I want. Also, I have this HUGE weight on my shoulders because her old owners did SOOOO extremely well with her and I ma afraid I am going to disappoint them. Along with that, the owner of the barn where I board her and my other horse(my sister's horse more like!) is expecting my sister and I to go all the way to districts and states for 4H. I feel overwhelmed. The barn owner sets her own ways and she keeps them that way. There is no changing those ways....I need some advice please!

  • I am showing western pleasure and my horse's lope feels so wrong!?

I just got a new horse at the end of January and I have been working with her some. Many days and for the past month it has basically rained, ha mostly everyday! But I am starting to get worried because when I was loping her today, she feels soooooo incredibly off balanced! Well I do when I am riding her. I bounce around in the seat so much and I feel like it looks so bad! She likes to bob her head randomly when we are loping too. I am training her to keep it down when loping. But I don't know whether she is loping too slow or not enough? Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? I always feel like my saddle is slightly to the right too much but it isnt. Could it be my stirrups?

  • Two piece reins to One Piece?

I would like to change my two piece, split reins, into a one piece rein. I had a bad accident with two piece reins last year and I am still afraid to use them.

Last year in September, I was riding my horse in the ring, she was a bit spooky that day so I thought, ahh we'll work out the kinks today. Turns out we weren't working out the kinks. She was spooking every, maybe, 20 feet or more. I was riding with spit reins, working on some training too. One rein in one hand, one in another. Well we got about 15 minutes of riding in so far and then all of a sudden she stopped spooking for one lap around. I thought, maybe, she figured nothing was going to hurt her. So I started to canter her. When we got to the same spot where she was spooking more frequently she jumped, bucked, and swung her head all around. I dropped one of the reins. She was still cantering. I was leaning forward and trying to get my balance and back in my seat all the way. She stepped on the rein that was hanging down. In less than a second, her head came back and hit my right in the eye. I never fell off. She stopped after I did an emergency dismount. My eye was swollen and bruise immediately. I thought I had cracked my skull or something. It took me out of school one day because it blocked my eye sight. It took weeks to get rid of. I'm not afraid to ride her anymore, only I am if I am riding with two piece reins.

I need a solutions to ride her with one piece reins, and I really do not want to go out and buy them. Is is possible to just punch two holes in the reins and hook two chicago screws to hold them together? Please help. My two piece reins do not hold a knot either, I have tried. :( Please help and sorry for the long story. :/
