  • If Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto had fought on July 26, 2008, who would have won?

Assuming Mayweather did not retire in 2008, and it was him who fought Cotto instead of Antonio Margarito that night, do you think Cotto would have had a chance to end Mayweather's undefeated record? Some people would still want the fight in 2011, and although Cotto is one of my favorites, I think he'd end up being pretty much shut out by Floyd. But in 2008, how do you see that fight happening? I think Cotto would have been able to take some early rounds, but Mayweather would eventually take over the fight as he usually does, and take the decision. I don't think Mayweather would really hurt Cotto at any point, so Cotto would probably keep coming forward, trying to win, but it would be futile.

  • What can I do to maximize my chances of being hired by a Big 4 Accounting firm when I graduate from college?

I'm going to be a senior in the fall at Boston University, majoring in Accounting. I am hoping to get my CPA license once I graduate from college in May 2012. Here is what I feel would be the most important information to a recruiter regarding my college career:

-2.8 cumulative GPA (I started off in engineering and I struggled with the calculus courses I took, which I am still trying to recover from, GPA-wise)

-3.0 "major" GPA (my GPA from only my business classes)

-I have served as a Public Relations Chair and will now be the President of my school's Caribbean culture group

-I will serve as the Public Relations Chair for my school's Accounting Association and will represent my school, along with the group's President, at a symposium at Grant Thornton in Boston in August

-I am also a member of my school's International Business Club, and am looking to join the Finance and Investment Club

-I will look to volunteer with a group called the Boston Impact Group

-I have worked a couple of jobs in college, mainly involving administrative and fiscal work

-I am currently serving as the summer Finance Intern at a non-profit organization in Boston

Given this list, can anyone give me some good advice as to what else I can do or improve on to maximize my chances of receiving a job offer from a Big 4 or even another really good accounting firm, once I leave college in May 2012? Thanks in advance!

I'm going to be a senior in the fall at BU, majoring in Accounting. I am hoping to get my CPA license once I graduate from college in May 2012. Here are what I feel are the highlights/important information from my (so far) three years at BU:

  • Does anyone have any tips on trying to get a last minute summer accounting internship?

I have tried my luck with the Big 4, and other major firms here in the Boston area. At this point, I am thinking to try looking a little more local and think of companies that others may not think of. Any other suggestions worth trying? Any advice?

  • If Manny Pacquiao fought Shane Mosley on May 2, 2009 instead of Ricky Hatton, who would have won?

If Mosley and Pacquiao fought on May 2, 2009, the same conditions as now (no catchweights, etc.), who do you guys think would have won the fight? I think Pacquiao, even more so than now, would have needed to use in and out motion, and avoid Shane's big shots for every minute of 12 rounds. I don't think Mosley's stamina would be as much of a concern, making the fight very competitive. I think Pacquiao would have barely edged it. It's a toss up for me.

  • If Sugar Ray Leonard had fought Marvin Hagler in 1985 or 1986, would the result have been the same?

Assume Sugar Ray Leonard decided to come out of his injury-induced retirement to fight Marvin Hagler in 1985, let's say he fought Hagler instead of Hearns that year. Or, let's say Hagler beat Hearns, didn't fight John Mugabi, and then Leonard came out of retirement to fight him at the end of 1985 or early 1986, do you see the result being the same, or would things have gone differently?

Personally, although I feel Leonard just edged the fight, 115-113, I must admit Hagler was coming off of two wars with Hearns and Mugabi and was probably feeling the effects at that point in his career. I feel Leonard might have tried more to fight with Hagler than outbox and frustrate him. I've seen a video about the fight where Leonard said that the plan for the fight originally was to go straight at Hagler and try to cut him, but then Leonard almost got knocked out in training camp less than a week before the fight, and the strategy was changed. I think if Leonard had tried to fight Hagler rather than box, Hagler probably would have gotten a decision instead.

  • How would Floyd Mayweather fare in the current jr. middleweight or middleweight division?

First of all, does Floyd's body look as if he can make that transition to middleweight without being severely undersized? I think he could come in 149 or 150 for a junior middleweight fight and still do well enough. How would he do fighting at 154 amongst the likes of Saul Alvarez, Pawel Wolak, Vanes Martirosyan, Alfredo Angulo or Miguel Cotto? And if he could successfully transition to middleweight, how do you guys think he would do fighting the likes of Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Dmitry Pirog, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Who do you see as his biggest threats in each of these divisions?

  • How many more fights do you see for these fighters? +BQ?

Manny Pacquiao-maybe 3 more fights before retiring and focusing on politics

Floyd Mayweather-I feel he will fight before the end of 2011, he'll fight sparingly for maybe 2 or 3 more years and truly be done after

Juan Manuel Marquez-I can't see Marquez fighting into 2013, so let's say 3 or 4 more fights

Sergio Martinez-He's 35 years old, but a young 35 I feel, and has maybe 5 or 6 more fights before his speed and reflexes are reduced significantly

Miguel Cotto-Cotto I feel is one more one sided beating away from retirement. He's closer than most people would think, although he's only 31 (if I'm not mistaken). I think Cotto will maybe fight 3 more times at 154, with a chance he'd go back to 147 for the right fight.

BQ: Do you guys really think Floyd Mayweather's legs are gone? Freddie Roach certainly thought so after watching Mayweather-Mosley, seeing as he stood a bit more in the pocket, flatfooted against Shane. I don't fully believe it though, and if Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, I think we'll see Floyd using those legs for all 36 minutes of that fight.

  • Which fight should have been stopped first-Pacquiao/Cotto or Pacquiao/Margarito?

I think the Cotto/Pacquiao fight should've been stopped in the 9th round. At that point, Cotto was backtracking just trying to make it to the bell. At least Margarito was still coming forward at that point, although he was paying a price for it. But I don't think Margarito's corner or the referee should have let him out of his corner for Round 11. Even Manny thought by Round 11 that it wasn't fair for Margarito to keep taking that kind of punishment.

  • If the rumor that Floyd Mayweather is fighting in July is true, who should his opponent be?

Here's a link to the rumor that Floyd Mayweather might be fighting in July, in South Africa, for Nelson Mandela's birthday:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=27053&mor...

Assuming Floyd beats the charges against him and this does happen, who would you want to see him fight? I'm ruling out Pacquiao seeing as he's fighting Mosley in May, I doubt he'll fight Sergio Martinez at 154 or 160. If Miguel Cotto doesn't fight Antonio Margarito this summer, I'd want the opponent to be him, but if he does, I'd love to see Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams at 147. It would test the claim the Williams camp keeps making that he could make 147 easily, without draining himself. Anyways, I'd love to see Cotto/Mayweather or Williams/Mayweather in July, if this rumor is true.

  • Has anyone ever attacked Mayweather's sholder to break his defense?

I haven't seen the Castillo fights recently and I don't recall de la Hoya doing this. But has anyone ever tried jabbing and throwing hooks towards Mayweather's upper arm and a shoulder, to try immobilizing the arm, not only breaking down the defense but making the jab and left hook less effective? Some say this would be a part of Pacquiao/Roach's gameplan if they were to fight Mayweather.

  • If Pacquiao vs Mayweather eventually happens...?

First of all, if you're sick of talk about this potential fight, please feel free to leave the topic and let people who still care to talk about it discuss it.

I was thinking that if Pacquiao vs Mayweather happens (I don't think chances of it happening are zero, I'm giving it until the end of 2011), I actually don't think Pacquiao should try to fight for a knockout. His corner's strategy will be simple in theory, but difficult to implement in the actual fight. Guys who most would say had some level of success against Mayweather (Castillo, Judah, De La Hoya, Hatton for a couple rounds) usually got figured out by Floyd after three or four rounds and shut out the rest of the way. I'm thinking that Pacquiao's camp is going to have to break it down into the simplest terms and say "We need to find a way to win seven out of twelve rounds." Literally, change up the strategy every two or three rounds. They will need to come with Plans A, B, C and probably D to keep Mayweather guessing and win of seven of twelve rounds. Let's say they use Strategy A, Mayweather might lose the first 2 rounds, then figure it out and win Round 3. Then they go to Strategy B, Mayweather loses a round of two trying to figure out that one before figuring it out. If they keep going, they can win 7 or 8 rounds and that I feel would be the best way to win this fight.

  • Super Six Predictions? +BQ?

Who do you guys have winning the remaining Super Six matches? I've got:

-Froch over Johnson by UD, in the neighborhood of a 115-113 card and a couple 116-112 cards.

-Ward over Abraham by UD, but I'd advise Ward to outbox Abraham, don't get into a rough messy fight like what he did against Bika, just outbox him and he'll win comfortably.

-Then, I've got Ward over Froch by another decision in the finals.

BQ: If the original super six of Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward, Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham and Mikkel Kessler stayed in the opening round of the tournament the whole time, who would have made it to this semifinal round of four? I think we'd have been seeing Ward, Abraham, Froch and Kessler in the final four.

  • If you could manage a boxer's career for his next fights, who would it be and what fights would they fight?

I'll start. Let's say I had the power to make Amir Khan's fights for the next two years (until the end of 2012). I'm going to assume Amir keeps winning, at least until his last fight of 2012. If I could make Amir's fight schedule for the next 2 years, it'd be:

-July 2011 vs Tim Bradley (I'd scratch the April 16 date off the schedule), Khan wins a close but clear UD

-November 2011 vs Juan Manuel Marquez in Marquez's 2nd fight at 140 (assuming Marquez is fighting Morales at 140 for a belt and wins), Khan uses his jab, speed and reach to keep Marquez at Bay for a competitive but comfortable decision

-May 2012 vs Andre Berto (assuming Berto holds onto his welterweight belt) in Khan's welterweight debut, Khan wins a very close UD

-December 2012 vs Floyd Mayweather for Khan's welterweight title (assuming Floyd does not do time and is still fighting)

What do you guys think? Who would you like to play matchmaker for?

  • Can anyone provide a link to the conditions that were agreed on in the Pacquiao-Mayweather negotiations?

Can anyone give me a link to what conditions were supposedly agreed to in the first and second rounds of negotiations for the yet to happen megafight? I know blood testing was the issue the first time by a difference of ten days (Floyd wanted the cutoff at 14 days, Manny 24) and the second one as far as I could tell was just Floyd did not sign a contract which had mutually agreeable terms for both camps. So what did they actually agree on?

  • Oscar de la Hoya-what should his record actually be?

Oscar de la Hoya ended his career at 39-6, with his losses being to Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley twice, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao. Personally, I say he won the Trinidad fight (as would most people), I think he should have a draw with Mosley in the first fight and won the second, and I scored the Mayweather fight a draw. I can't say anything about him getting stopped by Hopkins or Pacquiao. So I have him at 41-2-2. But then again, some would say he got unfair decisions against Pernell Whitaker, Ike Quartey and Felix Sturm. What would you guys say should be de la Hoya's record?

  • Who would win: Shane Mosley or Felix Trinidad?

Imagine if it had been Shane Mosley instead of Fernando Vargas who fought Felix Trinidad on December 2, 2000. Remember both guys are coming off big wins against Oscar de la Hoya. In a welterweight fight, who do you guys have winning this one?

  • What was the single best performance of these fighter's careers?

This was inspired by a topic I saw on the BoxingScene forum. What was the most impressive performance of these men's careers? Or another way to think about this question would be: What fight would you say each man was as close to unbeatable as possible? I'll share my opinions to start:

    - Oscar de la Hoya: I would say Oscar was never better, mentally anyways, than when he fought Fernando Vargas. When he stared him down during the pre fight instructions rather than look up to his mother as usual, I knew he was going to give everything he had to win that fight. I don't think anything was going to stop him from beating the hell out of Vargas that night.

    - Floyd Mayweather: I know a lot of people will say that his five knockdown drubbing of Diego Corrales was number one. I'm going to go a different route and say his dominance of Shane Mosley. He stayed in front of Mosley and made him miss and pay, as well as survived some hellacious right hands from Mosley, instead of the constant move and potshot routine most would expect him to employ. I know people will disagree here but oh well.

    - Manny Pacquiao: As a Pacquiao fan, I'd say he's had many great performances but the de la Hoya and Cotto fights are probably the best for me. I'd say he fought a perfect fight against de la Hoya, with his head movement, lead left hands, in and out flurries, and always circling to his right to stay away from Oscar's left. Then, he completely battered a solid, very capable welterweight Cotto who was definitely in the fight in the first four or five rounds. I don't think any current welterweight could have beaten Manny the night he fought Cotto.

    - Miguel Cotto: Cotto was performing extremely well during the first five or six rounds of the Margarito fight. He was outboxing him, using his movement while also landing some serious leather on Margarito's chin. If Cotto could have done this for twelve rounds, it would probably be the best performance of his career.

    - Juan Manuel Marquez: Marquez is another guy I have a difficult time answering this question about, but to come back after three knockdowns in the first round to give Pacquiao everything he could handle and more, I think the first Pacquiao fight takes it.

    - Bernard Hopkins: I haven't seen the Trinidad fight in years, and I've never seen the Tarver fight fully, so I'm going to say the Pavlik fight. Hopkins did everything in this fight. He threw a lot of good punches, went to the body, made Pavlik miss and pay, just embarassed him. It was as if Hopkins was trying to make up for years of boring fights, and he did that in part with this excellent performance.

    - Shane Mosley: I think a lot of people would say the first de la Hoya fight, which I think was a very close, great fight, but I haven't seen it in a couple years. I'll go with the Margarito fight. Assuming Margarito made it to the ring with his plaster wraps, he wouldn't have been able to use it since he never got close to Mosley. Mosley was hitting him to the body, hitting him with some serious right hands to the head, then he'd clinch to tire out Tony when he got close and to shut him down. Just a great performance. We'll see if he can pull off anything like this against Pacquiao on May 7.
