  • Can an employer provide a Health Reimbursment Account?

My employer is increases the deductible on our health plans to $500. The Out-of-Pocket maximum is increasing by $1500 for family coverage. I was wondering, even though the deductible is low, can the company combine this plan with a HRA. I know that a HSA can only be combine with a High Deductible plan, but I couldn't find much info about similar stipulations to an HRA. So a more detailed question would be, "Can an employer fund an HRA with a low deductible PPO Health Plan?"

  • Claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit?

I am going to school full time and my employer is providing me with tuition reimbursement. It will reimburse me 75% of the tuition cost with conditions such as, staying employed with them, maintaining a GPA and staying in the program. If any of these conditions are not fulfilled than I would have to repay the tuition back to them.

The repayment is taxed, so I was wondering if I accept this reimbursement could I still claim the American Opportunity Tax credit? I was wondering because, if I couldn't then I would forego the reimbursement and just claim the credit instead.

I claimed it last year, but I didn't have the employer tuition assistance then. I read a paragraph about the tax credit,

"The IRS does not require you to reduce qualified expenses by any amount you pay with borrowed funds, such as student loans or credit cards. However, you may not include any amount you receive from tax-free scholarships or fellowships, federal Pell grants, tuition grants from an employer, refunds from the school and other non-taxable assistance you receive other than gifts and inheritances."

So the question is, since the assistance is taxed, does it apply to these restrictions?

  • COBRA extended benefits?

I was recently laid off a month ago from my job. My insurance ended 6 days ago, and I broke my wrist 3 days ago. If I elect to sign up for continuation of benefits through COBRA, will the insurance cover the injury?

  • Broken Wrist and no insurance for 6 days?

I broke my wrist 2 days ago and my insurance ended 6 days ago. If I enroll in my parents health plan, or COBRA, will it cover the cost or will it be considered a pre-existing condition and leave me with a huge doctor bill. Live in Minnesota and I'm 19.

  • If x = -1 and y = 2, what is the value of the expression 2x3 - 3xy ?

I'm studying for a test and while looking for practice problems on the web I came across this question. It seemed simple enough, but the corrector keeps telling me I'm wrong and I don't know why. I came up with 0, but they keep saying the answer is 4. Can someone please explain this problem for me?

  • Will my car get totaled or not?

Got in an accident a week ago. I just got the estimate of what it would cost to fix the car, $4,280. I looked up the value at KBB.com, which is notoriously overpriced, and the value was about $6,200.

The truck is a 4X4, has 134,000 miles on it, and is a 2000 Chevy S-10 LT. I'm not going to use a rental car either. I have Statefarm and was wondering whether or not they would likely total the car, so I would know whether or not to start looking for a new car.

Also, how much would they reimburse me, because I know insurance agencies try to get you to take a lower offer then your actual car's worth.

  • Help with Checking File System on C:?

When I started up my computer, it went to a black, bios looking screen, that said this:

    "Checking File System on C:

One of you disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue."

It then proceeded to check the disk in 3 steps which were:

CHKDSK is verifying files (Part 1 of 3)

CHKDSK is verifying indexes (Part 2 of 3 )

CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (Part 3 of 3)

I want to know if I should be worried, or is this something that Windows 7 had put in for security measures and is normal. I have been using Windows XP and never had a problem with this. I just recently bought a new computer.

  • Why is it impossible to travel faster than the speed of light?

The speed at which light travels is supposedly the fastest at which anything can travel, but why? Why is it impossible to travel faster than the speed of light?

Couldn't there be something out in the universe that travels even faster? What if there was something that travels so fast that you can not even see it, or detect it.

Light moves at 299,792,458 m/s, so why can't something move at 300,000,000 m/s?

Please don't just give me calculations, but a reason why.

  • Will a Speeding Ticket go on my record?

I was ticketed for speeding 83 in a 65 in Minnesota. I went to court and met with the prosecutor. I asked him if there was anyway to have the ticket removed from my record, and he said that he would amend the ticket to a 65 in a 55. He said that it'll not appear on my public record because only going 10 over will not appear on public record and the only people who will be able to see it is courts, police, and the military. He said that no insurance company will be able to see it. I looked at all the statutes and couldn't find anything if there was truth to this.

  • Can you follow a cop?

Are you legally allowed to follow a cop's vehicle, in your own vehicle? I am not talking about private roads, I mean public streets and road ways. The State doesn't matter, but if you could be more specific and tell me which States, more so Minnesota.

  • Problems with my chevy truck?

I have a 2000 Chevy s-10 extended cab, Automatic, V6, 4X4. The truck makes a squeaking noise that is terribly loud and annoying. It starts making the noise (more loudly) once my speed increases (normally above 10 mph). When I turn right, the sound gets even worse. When I turn left the sound stays the same. The noise quits when I use the brake, but starts up after I take my foot off the brake. It does it even when I put the truck in neutral. The noise comes from the back.

  • Problems with my 2000 chevy s-10?

Everytime I drive my truck, it makes a chain-dragging like sound that comes from the back of the truck. It starts out that way, than goes away sometimes for a minute, but starts back up for the rest of the drive. Its not the brakes. It is a very loud sound that is extremely annoying not just to me, but i'm sure its annoying whenever i drive down the street.

  • What is the difference between a dial-up connection and a DSL connection?

I know what the main difference between DSL and dial-up is. But can someone explain or point me in the direction of my question? If DSL uses the same phone line as a dial-up connection then why is it that you can recieve dial-up but not DSL in some places? What else is different with the two?

  • How to find out if you are able to get DSL?

I live in South eastern minnesota (on winona's ridge) and have incredibly slow dial-up. Is there a web site that can list all the service providers in your area that offer DSL in the middle of nowhere? Or do you know anyone that offers DSL out here?

  • 2000 Chevy S-10 problems?

I bought a 2000 Chevy S-10 and at first it was o.k. It ran fine, but now every time I turn the steering wheel, the truck makes a loud sound. When i turn right it rattles and squeaks underneath along with a loud moan. And when I turn right it moans really loud underneath. Both of these happens with just a slight turn of the wheel, like a inch. When the wheels are straight, then the car is fine. HELP, the noise is driving me crazy.
