  • What is the best option for me to replace my central air vents?

My home was built in 1951.

When built the original owner's wife had asthma and severe allergies, so the house had a central ac installed. I know this sounds crazy but after purchasing the home we replaced the original ac unit. No it wasn't a swamp cooler it was ac, the techs had said it probably cost as much as the house.

Anyhow, my main problem is the vent openings. Some are hidden behind doors blocking air flow if the door is open and in my kitchen i have a very small vent located on the side of a cabinet above the stove. In the master bedroom the vent is on the side closet wall facing the door, effectively leaving the entire bedroom without heat or ac.

The bathrooms have no ventilation whatsoever.

    my question is:

Should I make a spine that runs from one end of the house to the other with branches off of it to each of the rooms?

And how far apart should I space vent openings?
