What is the proper way to go about telling someone that they are depressed and convincing them that they need help?

My friend's dog is constantly crying. He has plenty of water, is being fed regularly, has tons of affection from everyone in the household. He isn't a neglected dog, a spoiled dog if anything. What can be done to stop the dog from whining? The dog was a rescue dog from the shelter. Perhaps damaged goods is the reason for the way he acts?

If I did a full reformat and wiped everything on the HD, would that also wipe out the viruses on the computer?

It seems like every time a new champion gets crowned in the UFC, they become injured immediately after. You think it is because they are pushing themselves way too hard? Once they secure the title of being top dog in their division, they feel an overwhelming sense of urgency to get back to training because they know that there are a grip of guys that are hungry and are willing to do whatever it takes to take the belt form them. So they get back to the gym and they push. They push so hard that it creates all these physically hazardous situations and eventually, they are gonna get caught in a situation that jeopardizes their health and well being and forces them to get sidelined for "x" amount of time. Or maybe they are trying to focus on one thing and they overlook another which can put them in harms way? Injuries do happen but it just seems odd that it is happening right after that person wins the belt. What do you think could be the reason?
