  • Female friend sending mixed signals; what to do?

It'd be cool if someone could help me interpret this.

I have a pretty close female friend and I'm not sure what the way that she's been acting around me recently means.

I'm a college freshman and school's been going on for about a month. We met at orientation over the summer and got back into contact after move in, but I really haven't known her all that long.

Over the past couple of days, we've been spending a lot of time together. It's a little unusual, because I try to split my time between two separate pairs of female friends, but one pair was gone over the weekend so it wasn't unprecedented. The thing is that I've only really been hanging out with her and she's been the one initiating it.

Some other things prompted me to think she might have some kind of feelings for me. The other day, she asked me what kind of dating experience I'd had in high school. She also seemed to seize upon my mentioning another female friend who I'm close with and made a couple sort-of-jealous/insinuating type jokes about her. She's really into singing and playing guitar, and usually she's pretty shy about it, but she's sung for me a couple times as well.

On the other hand, she doesn't really flirt with me in any perceptible way. I like to think we have some chemistry, but there's really not all that much in the way of innuendo or anything of the type.

If it isn't really clear, I'm fairly attracted to her. I wouldn't mind making the first move, but it's just not clear whether or not I would be misguided there. We're pretty close friends, so I feel like I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place here, with either me not picking up on something and her resenting me, or me making a move and then ruining stuff between us.

It'd be so helpful if someone could parse this a bit and help me with what to do.

  • Japanese Novels with Theme of Sexuality?

I read The Sound of Waves a few years back and I recently read Norwegian Wood, and I greatly enjoyed both books. I'm wondering if someone could recommend other books that deal with similar themes. I really enjoyed the settings in both books, but I would just as much appreciate recommendations from outside Japan as well.

  • How should I deal with my change in musical tastes?

My musical tastes have changed pretty intensely over the last six months and I'm not sure how to handle it. I mostly listened to rap up until very recently, but lately it feels like it's lost a lot of that intangible quality that made me listen in the first place. I'm not sure what's caused it, but I would assume that it's just a part of getting older. Prior to this, I listened to a lot of Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, and Rick Ross, but now I just don't feel as motivated to turn it on as I do to listen to other stuff. I find that what I've tended to listen to more is more upbeat, indie/EDM/pop type stuff like The Naked and Famous, Santigold, and Ellie Goulding. I wouldn't be concerned about this, but I feel like rap is something that's really tied to my identity. I don't seem like the kind of person that really likes rap at a glance, so I've always felt that letting people know that I listen to rap was a way to show a deeper side of me. I'm afraid that I won't be able to do that, now that I listen to the kind of music that I look like I listen to.

  • What's a good way to say this?

I'm 17 and I operate a city website for providing resources to "youth" in the community, pretty much middle and high school age students. Frequently, when I ask people to send me events and stuff, they send me things that are either geared towards younger kids, or are wholly inappropriate for a city-run website, like "Hallelujah Harvest" or something. What is a good way to tell someone that they should send more appropriate content?

  • What types of girls would be interested in me?

I'm a senior in high school, and I've always wondered what types of girls are attracted to me.

I'm pretty tall, a bit on the skinny side, and I have medium-length brown hair. I think that I'm fairly good looking, but of course, that's subjective.

I come across as really smart, usually in a way that most people are a bit put-off by. I'm not nerdy in a pocket-protector, high-waisted-pants way but my interests are a bit on the unusual side, mostly things like politics, history, and architecture.

My general behavior would probably be called by some aloof, but I don't think that I'm totally unapproachable, just someone that keeps to himself when he's not with his friends. I don't randomly talk to people I don't know, and I'd rather meet a girl through a mutual friend or class than at random..

I listen rap music and I've been told that that's surprising based on who I am. I usually dress nicely, usually jeans, a button-up, sneakers, and the occasional sweater. I wear black, thick-rimmed glasses.

The school I go to is pretty diverse and segregated more or less along race lines, although I consider mysle f a bit of an outlier. I spend most of my time with one group of friends that's a bit more "nerdy" than usual, although some of them can keep their act together, and another group that's mostly Asian and a bit less nerdy.

I've had a grand total of one girlfriend before. We dated for three months and then she broke up with me.

Any response is probably helpful. Thanks!

  • Crash Course in Economics?

I have to write a paper in a couple weeks on economics and I really don't know all that much. Are there any texts that can take me from Economics 101 level to economics 401 level in an accessible manner? I just need a firm understanding of some of the more advanced concepts and mathematical relationships. I'd prefer more Keynesian texts, because that's probably going to be the perspective I'll write from, but beggars can't be choosers.

    Thanks!

  • What kind of girls might like me?

I'm a senior in high school, and I've always wondered what types of girls are attracted to me. I'm tall, fairly thin, and have brown hair. I've always thought I was good looking, but that's pretty subjective. I'm pretty smart, almost prohibitively so, and although I wouldn't call myself "nerdy", I don't have very common interests. Most of my interests are in things like politics, history, architecture, those kinds of topics. My outwards demeanor would probably be called aloof, but I don't think that I'm unapproachable, just someone that keeps to himself. I don't really talk to people that I don't know at random, and I prefer to meet girls through having mutual friends or group projects than talking to girls I have no connection with. I like rap music, but I don't project it, most people that know me just know about it. I dress nicely, even if not particularly stylishly, usually jeans, a button-up, sneakers, and the occasional sweater. I also wear glasses, but more the hipster kind than the typical nerdy kind. My school is pretty diverse, and I usually spend time with either my own group of friends, who are somewhere between nerdy and alternative, and another group that's mostly Asian and slightly less nerdy. There's only one group of people that really fits the typical nerdy archetype and I mostly stay away from them. I've had one girlfriend before, we dated for three months and then she broke up with me because I wasn't really emotionally or intellectually accessible. Those are my words, not hers. Any response is probably helpful. Thanks!
