I recently read Watchmen, Wanted and The Dark Knight Returns and quite enjoyed them and was wondering what others would be a good read.

I'd prefer ones that can be read on their own and you don't have to read half a dozen previous books to get what's going on.

Just as the question says, I'm looking to encrypt a drive on my laptop and was wondering what the best free software is.

Free and simple are the two things I'm looking for.

Asking this for a friend who doesn't have an account;

No sound on PC. Speakers definitely work. When try playing music using Windows Media Player get the following message;

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

Any ideas on how to find out what the problem is / fix the problem?

Looking to buy a new laptop, £300-£400 is my price range.

Hard drive capacity isn't as important as RAM and speed, it'll probably come with Vista so I assume I'll need the extra speed to cope with it.

It'll primarily be used for the internet, but also for Word. It won't be used for hardcore gaming or anything like that.

The DVD drive on my laptop recently broke and it's going to cost a fair bit to repair it, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap external DVD drive.

It's not really used much, just for watching DVDs and installing stuff that comes on a disc.

Everytime I start up my PC I get a black screen with white writing. The writing goes along the lines of;

"Your system was not shut down properly, what would you like to do."

I select "Start Windows Normally" and nothing happens, it goes right back to this screen. I tried choosing another option but for some reason the keyboard is not being recognised and doesn't work (I checked all connections and put in brand new batteries). So every 30 seconds the same option is chosen and goes right back to this black screen, it's on a continuous loop.

Any idea what's going on? Or am I going to have to take it to PC World and let them mug me to fix the problem.

I ordered a DVD from Play.com that was out of stock. It cost £34. I now checked if it was in stock and the price on the website has gone up to £100. In my account the order is still priced at £34 but I was wondering if when it was sent it would be at the £100 price.

Or because I ordered it at the £34 I'll get it for that price, even though it was out of stock and the new stock is going to cost £100;

Is this a series or was it just a one-off?

I was watching a programme on Channel 5 and it was saying that if you bought something from amazon.co.uk and they reduce the price of the item within 30 days then if you fill out a form they'll refund the difference.

I was wondering if anyone knew any more about this, specifically if anyone could provide a link to the section on Amazon about it.
