  • Which Japanese food do you want to try IN Japan?

Ethnic food can be completely different in other countries. (Different, not necessarily bad.) Food reflects a lot about climate, culture and history of countries/regions. I want to eat boeuf Bourguignon, coq au vin, choux a la creme and so on in France. I would like to try pizza in Italy. dumplings in China; borscht in Ukraine, puddings and pies in UK, phyllo in Greece. There are much more.

Since I'm Japanese, my question is "Which Japanese food do you want to try in Japan if you come to Japan?" Also, I'm happy to hear about other cuisines. Which food of your country do you recommend to foreigners?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Any good idea for lunch and dinner?

I live in this stupid place where I cannot find a decent restaurant, except for the Bistro I frequent to for dinner.

I like cooking and I am comfortable to make sauces from scratch, disjoint poultry, fillet fish, make various pastries, but I don't have time. I'm usually exhausted to do all those things--even though I want to do those things to maintain my skills.

The university cafeteria (I'm a grad student) sucks and embarrassing. The university so-called French restaurant serves something embarrassing. The (French) restaurant near the univ has absolutely no basic skills.

Kinda tired of having ill-prepared sandwiches for lunch although I feel I'm lucky that I can carry on my research here and I'm totally satisfied with that. But food, food, food.

    Any good idea?

  • what does a vegetarian eat in a formal occasion?

I'm just wondering what vegetarians eat when they are invited to serious dinners. If you are vegetarian and invited to a formal French course meal, what do you eat? Of course, you can always tell the chef in advance that you are a vegetarian and cannot eat meat or animal based stocks, but what do they usually serve?

Amuse bouche: OK, something without meat.

    Starter: OK, something without meat.

But what about fish and meat main courses?

    I'm just curious.

Do yo have any recommendations? Homemade stuff. If it goes well with wine or hot chocolate, it would be fantastic.

  • What is "deliciousness"?

My question is about deliciousness of food, not about situation or context in which it is eaten.

Some people really like mass-produced commercialized fast food, and although they are impressed with fine dining, they sometimes find those dishes exotic due to whatever unfamiliar herbs and stuff.

Other people honestly enjoy "posh" dishes. Not about the chef who cooked it, not about the history of the dish, not about its reputation, they honestly savor and enjoy the flavors.

However, most people probably agree that beef and potatoes go well together. Most people find fresh fish simply grilled with salt tasty. Who hates BBQ with beer or glasses of merlot?

What is the honest deliciousness in food? Something that makes us happy..

To make my point clear, let's talk about the acidity in wine. First time, we find it sour. As we get used to it, we realized that there are many different kinds of acidity. Some find it is not for them. Others begin to seek after wine with "nice" acidity. That is a personal choice. We have two different groups of people here. For those who appreciate the way some wine finishes with a certain acidity, those who don't are novice in wine. On the other hand, people who do not like acidity cannot understand why other people like it so much even though they are experienced drinkers. Therefore, one may say acidity in wine is what some people come to appreciate and others don't.

What is the common deliciousness? Is there such a thing at all? Or is it about food in context and there is not such thing of deliciousness per se?
