  • how long did the french revolution last?

I'm popular thought? i know that a lot of people have different opinions on this one - but what is popularly accepted? my guess would be 1789-1792.

  • Is Lewis Caroll the narrator in Alice In Wonderland?

Although Alice is the focalizer and source of our point of view, there is also a voice of a narrator present in Alice in Wonderland.

For example, it is the narrator who allows us to know that "but she very seldom followed it" in the first chapter of the novel.

Is it Lewis Caroll narrating, or someone else? Please provide evidence from the text that supports your theory.

    Please help!

You can disagree with my theory, if you'd like. I'm just looking for ideas.

  • A question about E-mail?

Sending and receiving letters used to play a large part in our lives. Some letters were cherished (like letters from friends at war, or post cards from family members overseas). Letter writing represented a personal form of communication.

How do you think that E-mail has made personal communication less profound and important in relation to societies emotional investment in it?

  • How did the Internet change society?

Discuss the various ways that The Internet can be said to shape our practices and our society

    So far, I've come up with simple ideas such as the following;

Communication - social networking sites allowed for "free" messaging, decreased use of telephones, changed the social ritual of phone calls into online messaging.

Social gaming - boardgames became online games, decreased family time etc..

but i'm kinda stuck. Do you have any ideas?

  • COMMENTS ON MY POEM ?

    In hindsight

i could have handled it better when

you threw yourself onto our bed

    drowing in the sheets

    with only marshmellow

    pillows to keep you afloat.

    You're most vivid when

    we sat in hot tubs

    hot boxed

    in the hot summer breeze

    holding out for some rainbow

    that might come

    after the rain

    that never will

    The memories of

    trading glances

    in the firelight

    of the lantern festival

    where lights inside paper

houses meant to banish bad things

    but you

    never seemed to mind it

    no, not a bit

    even if

    you were the worst

    thing that could have happened.

    and

    now I let myself drown

    in the softness that is

    the impression you made

    sampling the blankets but

    nothing ever seems as warm

    as you.

  • Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey question?

    Hi there,

I am writing a paper on "Jane Austen's mischevious delight in human folly" in Northanger Abbey. I understand want it means, but what could I talk about.

I have, so far, Jane Austen's parody of the gothic genre and the difference between reality and fiction that woman of the 1800's found hard to differ between... but what else?

  • Multiple sclerosis and Me?

    So, here is the deal.

Since I was quite young, I've had attacks of numbness that travel around my limbs around once every two months, followed by a migrane that may last for about a week. The doctors told me that it was not MS, because the paralysis moved to quickly around my body.

Now, I've been plauged by a numb (tingling, very weak, too weak to press buttons on remotes or type) arm and hand. It has been like this for about four days now, accompanying the migrane which is remitting at the moment (but won't be for long).

I've felt quite uneasy, feeling a little under the weather and depressed. My attention at school and work has decreased and I feel myself getting less and less interested in what is going on around me. I don't know if this matters, but yeah. I am always tried, sometimes dizzy.

I dunno, I have an appointment with my specialist in a few days but I am kinda freaking out a bit. Should I be worried?

  • Is my doctor doing her job?

Alright, so here is the deal.

I do not have a doctor assigned to me, I go to the general practitioner and get a different doctor each time. Every time I go in for my back problems, I have to explain my condition over and over again. BUT ANYWAY..

I fell over in class today, and landed right on my lumbar (i have spongadilisis and a disconnection between my l5 and s1 vertebre) It is extremely painful, and having fallen over makes it a lot worse.

So I weny straight to the doctors, she told me to just take some pain killers.. is this okay? I have exsisting and disgnosed back problems and still after an accident that is result in a huge amount of plain, and still she tells me to take some panadol.

should i go and see a different doctor?

  • I need help finding this poem...?

I am looking for a poem by the New Zealand poet

    James K. Baxtor

It is about a Maori warrior who dies in his first battle, and the poem is written as the last words of the warrior.

Trouble is, I can't remember its name and google searches have been, so far, fruitless.

Instant best answer to the first person to give me the correct name, thanks !

  • A POEM; opinions please?

I wish I could have made you proud,

    touch your life with hands

    too small to hold resentment,

filled your half empty glass with the

    treasures of lifes centemental value.

I wish you could have let me grow,

let my hands be the challase from

which you drunk to your freedom.

and although I held no colour,

    i was human, living

    fearing for the refundable exsistance,

life should not come and go as you

    please.

    but goodbye now mother,

back to my exile for the

    crime of conception,

    with bars just small enough

    for the hands of the

    forgotten child.

    tell me mother, what could

i have done to save us?

    ( about abortion, thought

    i'd hope that was obvious

    :D be nice, i'm no poet )

  • ` what do you think of this ?

We smoked cigarettes in our secret places,

drunk wine in the vineyard outside of your home,

from disposable cups of florescent colors,

thinking ourselves too old for our skins.

We watched black and white movies on Sundays,

considering ourselves akin to some timeless romance,

but we were roadrunner and whylie coyote,

always running in fear of falling to hard.

We found common ground in clumsiness,

slipping up on words we meant like 'I love you',

grinning to wide for our situation,

thinking too highly of ourselves and our smiles.

We spent summer's inside of brick houses,

afraid of the sun and what it might reveal,

thick, dusty beams of light showed glimpes of you,

a nose pinnocio would have been envious of.

    [ more coming ]
