  • Why won't my browser access HTTPS sites anymore?

    My favourite web browser, Opera, recently won't let me open pages which begin https, which can be quite a lot of them, especially when you want to log in to things, amazon etc.

    Does anyone know how or why it suddenly has stopped allowing me to access these pages? And even better does anyone know how to fix this?

    Many thanks

  • statistics point estimators?

    i just need some reasurance on the answers to some of these questions. I feel like i'm not getting the idea of point estimators, so if anyone could give me some tips/pointers or just trying to explain it. Thanks, Ok, here goes.

    Let {X1,...Xn} be a random sample from Bernoulli distribution with P(X1=1)=PI=1-p(x1=0). Let PI^ (PI hat) = x-bar = (X1+...Xn)/n be an estimator for PI.

    a) Find MSE(PI^). Is PI^ biased? Is PI^ consistent?

    b) let Y= X1+...+Xn. Find the distribution of Y

    c) Find the distribution of PI^ (which is called the sampling distribution of Pi^)

    Okay, what i have for a). MSE = 0, Bias = 0 i.e, unbiased. and it is consistent.

    b) i think that the distribution of Y is Binomial (sum of n-Bernoullis)

    c) i think that when n is large enough, the distribution will be Normal.

    However, i don't quite get where or not i can use the information from the population as if i were dealing with the sample on it's own i'd just have to make some guesses. Yeah, i'm quite confused.

  • What is the space of a function?

    Just doing some linear algebra, and i'm not entirely sure what the space of a function is. can someone explain it to me?

    The books says "The set F(R) of all real-valued functions, f: R->R, is an infinite dimentional vector sapce under the operations... (goes on to talk about closure under addition of functions and closure under scalar multiplication) But what is the space and what does it mean. What does it look like geometrically, or is it not geometrical?

    Thanks

  • Where does money come from?

    My question is not aimed at where is money printed but more at specifically, at where in the flow of money, from the sale of good to pay business' their revenues, and eventually pay employees their wage/salary, who in turn go on to spend the money in the marketplace.

    so where does the initial money come from? Can someone explain in detail, and simplistically (also where possible, make analogies, i can understand them) :-) Thank you.

  • Stationary points of a function of two variables.?

    i have a function and i need to determine how many stationary points there are, and what they are (local max/min, saddle point) but i can't seem to find the roots of the f '(x,y) equation. Perhaps someone can shed some light.

    The function is f(x,y) = 1-y^3-3yx^2-3y^2-3x^2

    many thanks

  • Inverse Trig integral, a little help please?

    The question is

    Use a trignometrical Substitution to find the Integral from 0 to 1 of

    (1+3(x^2)) ^ -(3/2)

    i know sort of what to do if it wasn't to the power of -(3/2) but was to the power -(1/2) [it would be an arctan integral]-- it's the cubing of it that's throwing me off, can anyone lead me in the right direction?

    cheers

  • Geometrical interpreation to 3x3 Matrix simulataneous equation solutions.?

    How do what the geometrical importance of a solution to a 3-variable matrix is, in terms of planes.

    i guess what i'm really asking is, is there a hard and fast rule that will solve this problem for me.

    example;

    | 5 3 -2 | | x | | 6 |

    | 6 2 3 | | y | = |11|

    | 7 1 8 | | z | |12|

    I know that i need to premultiply both sides by the inverse of the matrix in order to solve.

    What i'm not sure about it is what happens with the Determinant. For instance when Det = 0 and when it doesn't. Just need to verify that when Det does not =0 i have a unique solution, and that when it does =0 i have some wierd stuff with the planes and what that wierd stuff is.

    Thanks for anyhelp you can give to me.

    I know this is all a little vague; that's how it is in my head.

    cheers

  • PostModernism?

    Can someone please explain to me what it is in terms of literature and give example of it and how it deviates from other genres.

    I've been asked to do an Essay about PostModernism and Surrealism; i have a good idea what Surrealism is about, can anyone help with what postmodernism is about - central values and how writers have used these ideas. Any examples would be very very helpful.

  • What is the evolutionary advantage of walking on two feet?

    I was just wondering, since it required a lot of 're-jigging' inside of us.

    Learning how to Balance standing upright;

    Change the physiology of our eyes;

    Changing how the whole Chest cavity is hung;

    Why would we do that?
