  • Having Period right after taking Plan B One step, how long will it last?

Alright, I took the Plan B One Step Pill on the 19th of this month and all the things I've read about it says having a period afterwards is normal. I'm having mine now, it's just "different" it's not as "thick" as it usually is, is this because there isn't as much of the vaginal wall to shed? Will it be as long as a normal period? This is the second day. I know some of the sights have said if it lasts more than x amount of days go see a doctor, blah blah, but I just wanna know how long it's lasted for other people who've taken it.

  • Protein Shakes, How many is good in a day?

Right not I work out at home, usually 2 sessions, 1 hour each. After the morning I drink a protein smoothie with berries, milk, spinach and one scoop of protein powder. Would it be beneficial to drink another one after my second workout? I'm using it as a meal replacement also, but I still eat fruits and vegetables throughout the day for snacks then have a regular healthy dinner.

I'm not sure if I need that much or not? Just curious. Oh and if it helps I'm currently trying to loose 60lbs to get to my normal weight for my age and height. I'm sticking to eating around 1600 Calories a day also, usually less though.

  • Heart Rate Monitors, Are they good for regular work outs?

I'm not a runner as of yet, but I do work out a lot at home and I find it hard to keep track of how many calories I've burnt if I'm doing different exercises, like squats, wall sits, lunges etc...at home. I know a lot of people use the Watch type heart rate monitors for running, but would it basically do the same thing for regular workouts? Like tell me how many calories I'm burning during said workout?

    Thanks!

  • PH Balance problems in my 55 gallon tank.?

I test my water all the time, do water changes etc but I can never get my PH right. I have no clue what my GH is, as I use tap water, but I do use the tap safe stuff, but the water around here is really hard. Is there a test I can get that will test the GH or do I bring in a water sample to like petsmart or something? I've used perfect PH 7.0, but it makes the water really really cloudy for days. What can I do to help this? The current PH level, I just tested not too long ago is 8.8, way high as I have tetras, mollys and a gourami, I'm pretty novice at this, I haven't had fish die because of it yet, but I just want to get it right. Any suggestions?

  • What a good site to identify found seashells?

I can't find a good website to identify seashells? I've looked for like an hour and can't find a good one. Or does anyone know of a good book that I can buy that you can identify shells? They are all from the NC coast. My son is working on his collection for a belt loop for cub scouts and we just can't find a good site. Thanks.

  • Can eating black walnut wood kill a horse?

I have a neighbor that has 5 horses on a little over an acre of property, she doesn't feed them and grain and give them hay once in a while, these horses are starving. Yes animal control has been called, but the problem is they have recently been eating wood. Specifically walnut. I know shaving can be poisonous to horses and have killed horses in the past, I guess I'm just looking for an answer to what signs I should look out for in case this is something horses shouldn't do. Animal control hasn't done anything yet regarding the horses, so I'm keeping my eye on them, but I'm kind of concerned that they are literally eating the tree.

  • How soon can I re-dye my hair?

I used the Splat Blue hair dye yesterday, I didn't bleach my hair before and I didn't get the color that I wanted, you can barley tell it's got blue in it.

When is a safe time to buy more dye and then bleach my hair and re-dye it blue again? It doesn't tell on the box or on the website and I've emailed the company, just haven't gotten an answer so I figure I'd ask here.

It's not as harsh as the other "natural" permanent hair colors, what do you think, would it be safe to bleach my hair and re color it or should I stop by a salon and ask them?

  • 6 Year old son, not wanting to leave my side? Help please?

I have a 6 year old boy, he's been to kindergarten and he's in reading jumpstart classes now before he goes into 1st grade. Recently he has not been wanting to leave my side, period. I've never had a problem dropping him off at school or going to the grocery store etc...but now I have to literally take him into school, have one of the teachers take him so that I can leave and all he does is cry, right up until I'm out of sight, then he's perfectly fine, he has a good time at school and is all smiles when I pick him up. Now right now it's only a 3 hour day, I've never not picked him up and all he says when I ask him what's wrong is that he misses me, no reason why he does, just that he will. I don't know what to do anymore. Should I take him to counselling to see if he will talk to them more openly to see if we can get to the root of the problem? His hearing is fine, he has tubes, his vision is fine, no physical problems that I have noticed. I'm just about to my limit of patience and I need some advice. Has anyone else been in this situation with their kids?

  • Is it normal for hermit crabs to stay in one place for a long time?

Well a friend brought over a hermit crab the other day and I have since upgraded the tank and added another one for a total of 2 hermits. But the new one promptly buried itself in the sand in the corner and the other in an opposite corner and neither have moved for 2 days, they haven't eaten or anything.

I know they are alive because I'll see them come slightly out of their shell from time to time or the shell move a tad bit when I check the temp and the humidity in the cage, but they haven't eaten anything either.

I just want to know if this is normal as I don't have much experience with hermit crabs.

    Thanks

  • Land Hermit Crabs, how do you care for them the right way?

A friend dropped off her hermit crab to me earlier because she was just going to let it die and I want to take care of it right. I've been reading up a lot on the net about care, but I like to get personal opinions as well.

She gave me 1 hermit crab and and 10 gallon tank with forest bedding a fresh and salt water bowl, a food bowl, drift wood and a hiding log.

Now would you suggest using coconut fiber or sand for bedding? I know it should be at least 3 to 4 inches deep so they can bury them selves, but I'm on the fence on which one would be best.

With feeding, do you prefer to use pellets or powder? What kind of fresh foods do you give them? Can I feed them brine shrimp as well?

With keep the temp. and humidity right, how do I do this? I don't have a thermometer or humidity gauge, but I'm getting one tomorrow. She has a side heater on the tank, is that sufficient enough to keep the humidity up? How often do you mist the tank and do you use the treated water for that also? Would you use a solid lid or a "grate" lid? This tank came with a "grate" lid, I'm not exactly sure what it's called.

Bathing....how do you personally do this? Do you suggest using stress coat while bathing also?

I just want to take care of this guy right. I am more than likely going to get him a buddy tomorrow too as I know they are social animals and fare better with at least 1 other friend, should I "quarantine" the new one first or bathe him and put him in with the other guy? Just to make sure it doesn't have any mites?

    Thanks for your help!

  • What do you think is the best camera/setup for shooting waterfowl?

I am a huge waterfowl freak, I love taking pictures of them but my camera just doesn't seem to be cutting it. I have a Canon Rebel xTi with a 70-300mm lens. It just doesn't seem to be the quality I want, not to mention the lens doesn't zoom enough, but I haven't saved up the money for the bigger one yet.

In your opinion what setup is the best for this type of photography?

  • Can you identify this duck?

Alright, I took this photo a couple years ago and just recently put it on deviantart, but I can't exactly tell what breed it it.

I'm thinking it's a eclipse (non breeding) male wood duck, but it doesn't quite look like one, but I know it's not a female. I had a group of about 10 on my pond, this is the best shot I got as they were quite shy.

    What do you think?

  • What's the best Canon Telephoto lens for shooting wildlife?

I've got a Canon Rebel xTi and right now my biggest lens is the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens. I find that it doesn't zoom in enough for the shots I would like to take where I can't creep closer to the animals without scaring them off.

What do you suggest would suit my needs better?

    Thanks!

  • How do I deal with transitioning from having my "little boy" to a "big boy"?

My son is 5 and he will be 6 next month, so I've been kind of stressing lately about how to deal with him getting older. He's my first kid, so it's kind of weird to think about. I know you mostly "go with the flow of things", but like for instance he still uses a potty seat to poop, how do I move him to just the toilet? How do I transition him from me helping him with a bath to him doing it without any help?

I know he's going to grow up anyways, I just don't know how to deal with all the changes, what helped you guys when your kids were growing?

  • Fish dying, could it be swim bladder disorder?

My platys have been dying recently like one every couple days it seems like, I've lost 3 in the past week. What I've noticed at least with the one last night is that they have I guess you would say balance problems, the one last night that I watch die, yes that sounds harsh, lol, but when he would swim he would go in flip in circles, not head over tail but to the side circles like rolling over.

The first one I found was stuck to the filter intake, so I don't know he died of and the other one I noticed was having balance problems too and I woke up and he was dead.

Do you think it's Swim bladder disorder? I know it isn't due to chilling because the heat in my tank is and has consistently been 75 degrees F since I set it up. I do put the medical salt in my tank, vacuum and do a water change weekly and monitor the water parameters which are all normal.

Also I don't know if it's just a platy thing, but they tend to rest a lot on the bottom of the tank or in the plants, they still act normal 90% of the time, but I don't know if they are sleeping or what, is this normal for platys?

  • What's a good way of controlling brown Algae growth in my aquarium?

I know it's probably common, but I get a ton of brown algae growing on the glass of my 55 gallon tank. What's the best way to control the algae growth? Should I get a pleco? I got rid of my last one because it was actually eating my live fish for some reason. Is there any "chemicals" that will stop the growth or should I just continue to clean the tank with a sponge brush when I see it?

Also I recently had an outbreak of ick in my tank, it's gone now, but should I "wash" my sponge brush for the glass or once it dries completely out will that kill the parasites? Same goes for my vacuum and stuff.

    Thanks!

  • Continuing Ich Problem, help please?

Alright, I got an outbreak of Ich in my 55 gallon tank, I used the ick away treatment 3 times, didn't help, then I turned up the heat in the tank, and used Salt, and it seems like my fish have gotten it more now.

I need some help here, 1 Fish alright died...I don't want to loose anymore.

I really need some suggestions. Thanks

Oh and by the way, the population in my tank is 4 Zebra Danios, 4 Neon Tetras, and about 10 Platies with 2 babies.

  • Canister Filter for the first time user, what do you suggest? And other questions?

Alright, I've heard all the rave about Canister Filters and am going to be saving up some extra cash to get one. Question is what's the best canister filter for a not cheap, but not expensive brand?

    More general questions:

What's the difference between canister filters and regular carbon filters?

    What are the benefits?

How hard are they to use?

How expensive is the extra stuff like the filter pads/mediums?

Do the pros outweigh the pros of a regular carbon filter?

I have a 55 gallon tank that has an Aqueon 55 filter at the moment, I'm just a beginner fish keeper and want to get into it more that's where there's so many questions. Any information you can give me about Canister Filters if you use them would be awesome.

  • What to do with a gravel vacuum after an ick outbreak?

Alright, I've never dealt with ick before and I noticed yesterday that my fish had developed it, probably from the fish my son won at a festival that I used the same net in both tanks, which I know I shouldn't have done. Anyways, I've done the first treatment of Wardley Essentials Ick Away and have done a partial water change 24 hours after treatment, now to wait for 3 days and repeat the process, BUT the real question is, after using the gravel vacuum to get water out of the tank, do I need to buy a new one or will after drying the vacuum be alright to use again without spreading the ick again in the tank?

Am I using the right treatment to treat the ick? I also increased the temp in the tank to help fight off the ick.

Thanks for reading and any advice you can give.
