  • What are some unrecognized jobs or roles in society?

Doctors, police officers, and teachers, to name a few, are some jobs that are recognized a lot. So far I've thought up cashiers, janitors, and landscapers that are often unrecognized. Anyone have more jobs or roles to add to the list? Thanks!

  • Any suggestions for getting a horse prepped for the middle of show season without being ridden?

I'm on a riding leave for a month and a half, so I'll be missing over half of the show season. I plan on showing in July. I'm an eventer and saddleseat rider. My horse needs to loose some winter fat still. I set up some training rides with my trainer to ride my horse. I'm doing tons of groundwork with her every other day. I should get about a month of one on one practice with my horse. Is what i'm doing enough to get my horse and I ready for the season? Any suggestions for what I can do with her that will help with losing extra winter pounds and get her fit without be ridden more than 2x per week?

Thanks for your time! I know I threw out a bunch of info. Just wanted a few tips. Thanks!

  • My horse doesn't stand still when I ask her to halt.?

Whenever I ask my horse to halt, she stays in one area, but starts dancing sideways and doesn't stand still. I've been working on transitions, and did some ground work with her, but we're not having much improvement. I've tried making my commands clear, but when she starts dancing around, I tend to keep pressure on the reins. On the lunge line, when I ask her to "woah" or halt, she just slows down her pace. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. We just picked up this problem about a month ago. Does anyone have any training tips to help our situation?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Is the Pride & Prejudice movie the same as the book?

We've just finished reading the Pride & Prejudice book in class, and we have to write an essay about it. I'm more of a visual learner, so I was wondering if the movie is a reliable source for me to go off of. Does the movie have the same details as the book?

Thank you in advance! Have a great day!

  • Help q's with small cut on dog's paw.?

I came home a saw that my dog was limping, he had a small cut (about 1/4 of an inch) on top of his paw. The cut went though his skin, but it looks like it's healing up nicely.

So far, I flushed out the wound with a saline wash, and covered the wound with gauze an some vet wrap. I didn't want him to lick it and make the wound bigger.

I've heard Neosporin is bad for dogs, so I didn't put any on. I'll take him to the vet in a few days if it doesn't heal up.

Is there anything else I should do for him? I've also heard that dog's saliva has healing properties... Should I worry about him licking the wound?

    Thanks in advance!

  • How busy are the sidewalks of downtown New York City?

I was thinking about taking a trip there this spring, but I didn't know if my family and I have to form a hand barricade to not get lost, or if it's not as busy as it seems in the movies. :P

Also, what are some of the busiest times there? I know rush hour and probably lunch time are the busiest.

    Thank you in advance!

  • How to make my horse more balanced?

Whenever I work with my horse, she seems to do better riding on the right then the left. Are there any exercises to make her equally supple on both sides? Thank you in advance!

  • Am I supposed to have slack in the rein or not? (For National Show Horse)?

I have a National Show Horse that I take lessons with. I do eventing, endurance, and saddleseat.

I was having a really basic groundwork & saddleseat lesson with my trainer, and she told me I was holding the reins to tight. She told be to loosen in so they reins dropped way below the horse's neck. My hands were over the first braid in the rein.

Over the summer, at another barn, and from show experience, I learned that National Show Horses are supposed to have no slack in the rein while doing flatwork and saddleseat. I know this isn't always the case, like in jumping.

I'm just really confused. Can someone help me figure this out please? Thank you in advance!

  • How to prepare my horse for a fox hunt in late February?

Hi everyone! I was wondering how to prepare my horse for a 3 hour fox hunt. We'll be trotting and maybe cantering for majority of the time. She's pretty fit, but she's had a couple of months off. I don't want to push her, especially in the cold weather. My instructor said to take her over the trails for a few hours at trot pace. I'll have about a month to get her ready. Thank you in advance!

  • Can horses be allergic to peppermints?

Hello! I was wondering if peppermint discs are okay for horses. My horse's previous owner said that horses should never eat them, but I don't think my horse is allergic. I've gone to barns where they feed peppermints to all their horses, so I'm just confused. Just wondering! Thank you in advance!

  • Alamar knot... how to use it?

Hello! I was wondering how you'd guide your horse using an alamar knot. I'm pretty sure you use them like reins, but I wanted to make sure I know what I'm doing before I tried it. Thanks in advance!

  • What to wear on a hunt?

Hi! I'm going on my first hunt in a few days and I was wondering what junior girls would wear. I know it's formal, so I just wanted to make sure! Also, can I wear any helmet or does it have to be a show helmet? Thank you in advance!

  • What to put on my equestrian Christmas list?

I was making my Christmas Wish List, and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas for gifts. I'm an English hunt rider and I own a horse named Georgie. I asked for a donation to a program that cares for retired racehorses, a bridle tag with Georgie's name on it, and a new halter.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

  • Any universities with excellent equestrian programs?

I live in Michigan, and want to go to a college or university with an equestrian-based program. I was wondering if anyone knew of any colleges with equestrian degrees and facilities with national teams. I'm willing to go anywhere in Ohio, Indiana, maybe Illinois, and of course, Michigan. Thanks!
