I'm a fish, parrot, and pet enthusiast. I've been working in "the industry" for almost ten years. fish--Currently my occupation. I've been breeding livebearing fish for five years, maintaining show strains of albino guppies and have some works in progress. I'm currently an active member of the seahorse breeders network on www.seahorse.org. Have experience with most captive kept marine organisms. birds--I have three parrots, a 26 year old red-lored amazon, a maroon bellied conure, and a green cheeked conure. I've hand-fed hundreds of baby parrots. other animals--I've personally cared for thousands of hamsters, guinea pigs, sugar gliders, degus, chinchillas, amphibians, reptiles, etc. both as an employee and volunteer. Bred fancy strains of dwarf hamsters most of my life.
Best dog breed with small parrots?
I have a Green cheeked conure, Maroon bellied conure, and a Red lored amazon parrot. All are very tame and trusting. I've never had a dog. My husband has, and he wants to add one to the family. It will be his dog. He loves the parrots, too, and we want to make sure we make the right choice.
What is the safest dog breed to live with parrots? I realize that with discipline, just about any dog can be taught not to hurt them. But I'm wondering if there are any breeds that are better or worse than others in terms of being gentle or calm around birds.
(for example, a retriever or bird-dog might not be the best choice, since they like to put birds in their mouths. however, I do know people who have trained their labs to not do this to their parrots.)
8 AnswersBirds1 decade agoBest way to acclimate FW domesticated mollies P. lattipinia to saltwater?
Bought FW mollies at Petsmart yesterday. They're in a quarantine tank and I'm using the drip method. About one drip per second. SG is now up to 1.010. Started it yesterday, turned it off last night, started dripping again this morning. How long should I make this last? I don't want to rush it.
