  • Can you simplify equations in systems of equations via elimination?

    So if you have

    -36x+14y=-8

    -27x+18y=9

Could you simplify it to be

    2(-18x+7y=-8)

    9(-3x+2y=1)

If not, would someone care to explain a simple way to solve the original system without having to use large numbers?

Also, it s not acceptable to multiply by fractions, is it?

  • Any information on eating anxiety (not picky eating) in toddlers, is it a thing, is anyone else having this issue, and do you have any tips?

    Hello again, fellow Yahoo-ers!

My 4-year-old niece seems to have some form of eating anxiety; everything talks about picky eating, but that's not what's going on with her (unless the def. of picky eating has changed since I was 4).

    Here's some info:

It's not that she doesn't like foods or turns her nose, she just won't eat in front of people.

If you ask her if she's hungry or would eat something, pizza, for example, she'll tell the truth: "Want some pizza?" "No, thanks." "How 'bout an apple?" "No, please." (she's still learning and it's adorable) "Are you hungry at all?" "No." Simple enough, right?

She just won't eat in front of people. You can ask her if she wants some popcorn at Target, she'll say yes, and then you won't see her eat it unless you look out of the corner of your eye as if she wants to make sure she'll like it before anyone sees her eat it.

Out of my parents and I, I'm the one she usually eats for, but it's usually when we're alone.

The only foods I've seen her eat around others are bananas, which are pretty normal, and pizza once.

She won't eat if anyone's is paying any sort of attention to her, and sometimes it worries me that she will develop/has developed some form(s) of anxiety. I love her to death and don't want her to suffer from anxiety disorders like I have (sadly, she has a strong genetic predisposition).

If anyone else is having this issue, has had this issue, or has any tips to try, that would be fantastic!

    Thanks a bunch in advance!

  • Light-headed throughout period: Is it normal or should I be (at least slightly) concerned?

    Hello again, fellow Yahoo-ers!

So, that time of the month again-- aunt flow has decided to come over while I'm away surfing the crimson wave during shark week so I can win a cotton-pony to ride to bloodville lol.

Anyways, every time that I have my period, it is excruciatingly heavy (a new pad every two or three hours on average), and I get REALLY light-headed, shaky, and exhausted*. Is this normal or should I be concerned (even just a little)? Does anyone know if this could possibly be symptoms of an underlying condition or something? I've read a few articles, but I want to get people's opinions based off of my specific concerns :) .

*I also get extreme cramps that can last as long as an hour with medicine and heating-pad-time.

ALSO, I do make sure to eat regularly with proper amounts of iron while making sure I stay well-hydrated.

(I am due to go back to the lady-doctor, so I will make sure to bring it up next time I see her!)

Thanks A BUNCH in advance!! :D

  • Is there a way to pause my high school career until next year?

I've been going through very tough things recently and need a break. I can't handle school right now, stay focused, or even turn my assignments in on time. So, is there a way to quit this year and restart it next year? I'm willing to give up the credits I've earned this school year because I have so much going on in my life (having mental illnesses, messing with my meds, going through horrible experiences, and getting a job soon).

Ps. I'm in online school because I cannot function inside a school building. If I can't even do being in online school, what should I do besides putting a pause on it, getting a job (to associate myself to proper social skills and schedules), and going back this coming school year?

Also, I am from TN, so please keep that in mind with your responses! Thanks in advance!

If you have another suggestion, I'm all ears--or eyes and fingers, haha!

  • What do I do about my mental illnesses and high school?

    **BACKSTORY**

I'm just about 16 (just 17 days left!!!) and have had social anxiety disorder my whole life; I have also had depression since I was 9. Lately (the last 2 years), it has gained in intensity, bringing the social anxiety (that I got under control when I was 10) back with a lot of new friends including GAD, panic disorder, OCD, and possibly ADHD (still working with therapist on potential diagnosis).

    **ANYWAYS**

I'm on medicine, and it works, but school just renders the medicine useless. Since the beginning of this school year, I have been schooled online because of aforementioned issues.

I am behind in school, and no matter what I do, I cannot catch up or motivate myself to do anything (school-related or otherwise), but when I forget about school or am on break, I can take care of myself and actually leave the house.

I sit and cry about school; I sit and punch myself in the gut to make the inside pain feel believable; I contemplate suicide and live in fantasy worlds in a weak attempt to escape the pain of this one.

I just want to quit or even just take a break and redo sophomore year in the 2017-2018 school-year, and I feel as though if I get a job, I can become better equipped for the real world whilst trying to regain proper mental health.

I have spoken to my parents, but they don't understand that I am a completely different person than I was before everything in my world fell apart.

    What should I do?

    Thank you in advance! :)

  • Can I drop out of high school in TN if I get my GED?

Hi! I have been thinking about this for a while, now, and have decided to drop out of school. PLEASE do not try to talk me out of it!

I am almost 16, but in TN, you have to be 18 to leave high school and 17 to take the GED. However, I have an aunt who lives in NC, where it is legal to take your GED at 16, and you do not have to be a legal resident.

So, if I stay with my aunt to take my GED, when I come back to TN, can I officially drop out of high school?

    Thanks so much!

  • If you drop out of high school in one state and then move to another state, do you have to go back to school?

    Hi!

I used to LOVE school until about two years ago when my anxiety disorders & depression kicked into high gear; I ended up having to be homebound the final six weeks of last school year because being in the school building (I was fine everywhere else) gave me constant panic attacks. Last semester I was "homeschooled" (all the work was due at the end of the semester) because we couldn't get the papers to enroll in online school in time. Anyways, this semester, I am enrolled in the aforementioned school, but I find that the day after assignments are posted (on Saturday due Friday), I get WAY over-stressed about getting the work done on time.

This stress just makes my depression much worse to the point that I consider killing myself. I am on helpful medication, but this seems to be something else entirely. This is a vicious cycle, however, because when I hit the "contemplating suicide" point, I have to stop working on schoolwork for a little while & do something else (sudoku, cleaning, re-folding my clothes, etc.). Too bad this just seems to make it worse because then I end up getting MORE behind on schoolwork. SO, I am heavily considering dropping out of school in two months when I turn 16, but in TN, you have to be 18 so I plan on going to stay with my grandma (in FL where it is legal at 16) so I can drop out, but I want to know if I would be able to move back (& get a job) before I'm 18 or would I have to go back to school?

(I am forming a plan before asking my parents)

  • Is there any way I can drop out of high school under the age of eighteen in TN?

    Hi, guys,

I want legitimate answers, please, and nothing like "don't" or "you shouldn't" unless you can give me an answer to my question and explain your reasoning for your beliefs. Please and thank you.

I am fifteen, turning sixteen this April. I've struggled with anxiety disorders all my life, and they had nearly disappeared around the time I was nine. Sadly, they came back worse than ever (to join my two year old depression ) about two years ago and have been getting progressively worse since. So much so that I had to be homebound for the last two months of freshman year because I was missing so much school and I had to just stop going.

We couldn't get the papers needed for me to join TOPS ( tops.edu ) until two days after enrollment ended, and we couldn't get ahold of the TOPS counselor. We had been trying for over a week before enrollment ended. Anyways, I have been "homeschooled" for this first semester, and I have to take a test to get in. The problem is that there has been no real structure, so I'm ETREMELY behind.

Now that I have the backstory complete, I was wondering if it was possible in ANY WAY to wait until I turn sixteen and drop out to take the GED? I am mentally unstable and can't handle school, so it would be best, I feel, for me to drop out and get my GED (as above stated).

If I do this, is it possible for me to keep a job and get my license?

I still need to talk to my parents, but I want to know if it is possible before I bring it up.

    Thank you SO MUCH

  • How long is too long for a period?

PCOS runs in my family, so when my periods started growing further and further apart and more symptoms appeared I grew more and more worried. When my mom was finally able to take me to the OB/GYN, I was not diagnosed bc the doc didn't want to stick a label on me while I'm only 15 and a half; no one [including myself] wanted to do an ultrasound for it bc it would be vaginal, and I'm still a virgin. I was prescribed meds to help the symptoms so as to possibly try to prevent it.

ANYWAYS, backstory out of the way, I had gone almost a year (11-ish months) without a period when we went. Since the medicine to Kickstarter me, I've had a heavy-ish one with some really big clots for almost 3 weeks. When SHOULD I begin to get concerned?

(my mom called at 2 weeks & the doc said my body was just clearing out)

    Thanks in advance!!
